Very nice and clean place. The staff were super nice and friendly but they started my Pokemon card opening addiction.

Calling all geeks.... I've found your Mecca! Our son was in heaven and probably could have spent…read morethe entire day in here if we had let him. It felt like it went on forever and had anything and everything a tabletop gamer / hobbyist / geek could ever dream of! There was even a space you could pay to play games / paint minis!

I've loved this shop for so many years, and I'm slapping myself why I haven't written a review yet…read more This is a hidden gem tucked in the basement next to the TD in Chinatown. One of the cheapest spots in the city to pick up a board game. The pros are they have a massive collection, a giant library filled with rows and rows of games and collectibles. If I'm in the area, I used to stop by to peruse because I'm that kind of geek. I honestly haven't made them exercise their customer service skills because I research my board games and know exactly what I want. But I can see that newbies could be overwhelmed with all the options coming in. We decided to buy a board game for a friend's child, age 6. My boyfriend ran off to find a game at Meeple without consulting me first. He came out empty-handed, saying there was nothing suitable for that age range. I'm SURPRISED. There's a board game for everything there. I'm not an expert for games for six-year-olds, so I just Googled, found a dad blog and decided Catan Junior was it and purchased online here. They processed our order immediately and were ready for pick up the same day if needed. The truth is my BF was about to check out at Indigo, which is 30% more before I reminded him to check at Meeple again for prices. The only difference *I think* is the packaging art is slightly different and the box is larger at Meeple. If their staff actively asks every customer walking in and tries to help, they can convert more casual or newbie gamers--what a lost opportunity.

Bunch of dishonest crooks run this store…read more I didn't know anything about weapons, so I got taken for a sucker by these sheisters. I bought a Beretta Elite II bb gun. Nick, the owner said that he sold the same gun yesterday to a customer for $225, and he was gonna give it to me for $180. Great, I thought. Then I went on the internet and realized that the same gun is actually a piece of crap and can be ordered from any website for $50!!! Guy charged me $180 for a $50 gun. Don't even think of buy knives, they're all marked up 2 or 3 times the retail value as well. Of course I went back and confronted Nick. He had the nerve to play dumb, saying things like "oh, it's not the same online" even though it was the exact same model. I even printed the page off the website and showed it to him. HE STILL DENIED IT, to my face, and tried to call ME an idiot and a liar who didn't know what I was talking about. These guys either don't know the retail value of anything in their store, or they deliberately play stupid. I ended up getting store credit after a long argument. These guys will rip you off without blinking an eye, and they do it by acting like the friendliest sales people. Horrible business practices. If you're gonna buy anything from there, don't pay a cent over 1/2 of the marked price. They will say "oh we gotta make a living too", but you have to be firm and tell them straight up that you know what the retail value is, and that's all you're willing to pay. Don't be suckered by these dirty Greeks like I did. I said "Nick, look me in the eye and tell me, as a man, that you did not just rip me off by over $100." Nick muttered some incoherent reply about being Greek and wouldn't hold eye contact.

The staff are usually friendly with me, but they always seem to want to engage in some kind of right-wing conversation, despite my repeated attempts to subtly signal that, 'yeah, thanks but I just want to be going'. The last time I was there they charged me $10 for a 50' length of paracord (the market value is about $5). Another indicator of their markup would be the price for those basic foil emergency blankets from Coghlan's: MEC on King St. has them for $1.75. Central surplus wants about $5. For a big piece of paper-thin foil. After bringing up my purchase, the woman behind the counter wanted to keep complaining to me about NAFTA--god, how old is THAT political chestnut? Bottom line: The only surplus store downtown, but avoid it if you can. You'll pay too much and possibly be creeped out by the overly opinionated staff. Maybe try save-more next to Moss Park.

Their selection of board games is huge, and they have an area of paints too for those who do paint figurines too. They literally have all your nerd stuff here in the middle of Downtown Toronto. I loved it. And to have a huge community of players to play MTG in the back of the store too, that was just epic. I registered for a night for EDH and the community is helpful and nice too. BUYERS BEWARE!!! stay away from this crooked seller unless you don't care for them to steal your money. highly NOT recommended

Owner / Proprietor, Luigi goes 'above and beyond' on repairs for specialty electronics…read more I have a Gameboy G1 specially modded to make chiptunes, sent to me as a gift. After some years of use, the screen went-out and one of the springs in the battery compartment corroded due to a leaky Energizer. I got quotes in the hundreds for repair at various places. On a lark, I asked Luigi at Nerdgasm for a quote and he said to bring the device by for a consult, issued a ticket and said to leave with him for review. Because the device is rare and niche, to say the least, he took his time because he wanted to be careful and examine it properly in case of any other issues. Aging electronics require caution. Luigi took personal interest in the device and suggested a compelling ballpark figure, pricewise. The upshot: spring was replaced and the screen was updated to a modern variant with a lot of added cool features not in the original. The price was in the double digits, well within my budget. While Luigi is not quick with older, rare devices, (because he is cautious), the end result is worth the wait with modest pricing. If you have some rare special electronics where care and attention to detail supersedes speed, Luigi at Nerdgasm is your first consult.

HOWEVER, if were talking celebrating the design in miniature form that i can keep on my desk, in my pocket, in my mouth (um, for, you know...magic tricks?) then im all for it. i bought three little cars. they were 5 bucks each. i suppose thats expensive, but each came attached to a stand which had its name on the outer rim. very classy. when i came up to the front the guy said something like, "you like the odd ones, huh?". i suppose so. i got a 1963 Ford Thunderbird in white, a 1977 Ford Pinto Cruising Wagon and a 1978 AMC Pacer. now whos cruisin in style man.... anyway...theres lots of handmade cars made of wood or a wood and metal combo. of course there are large models of the same style. my next purchase might very well be the VW bus made in wood. big cars, small cars, big kids, small kids.
