we recently took our two dogs to animal inn for grooming. the oes was heavily matted. the Newfie less so. the groomer, Michelle, called us before working on the newf. she would have to be taken way down due to matting. ok. our neighbor reco'd Michelle so we took her advice. when we picked up the dogs the lobby was in chaos. part of that was our young dogs' exuberance at seeing us. a police presence required Michelle to translate from english (the cop) to Portuguese (a woman apparently claiming ownership of a stray). we were distracted and eager to leave. in the parking lot the Newfie looked like a Dr Seuss poodle. a big puffy butt and head with a lot of skin showing and lots of tufts here and there. I thought it would grow on me. at home a closer look revealed both dogs looked like a drunk farmer had driven his combine all over the field at night. maybe these were homages to alien symbols in a Midwest cornfield. we took the dogs in to look better than what I could do. nope we called Michelle for an explanation. I forget what she told my wife but it included "bring them back and I'll fix it." I'll never understand why anyone would basically say "I really messed up. so come on back for more.". fool me once shame on you... I really regret giving Michelle a big tip. hopefully this will help others ftom repeating our mistakes. and Michelle's. read more

Update: the owner called and was very professional and helpful. She had no idea what happened and was very apologetic. I have to commend her for that and appreciate that she listened to my concerns. Horrible! We dropped our dog for an overnight. They told us pickup was between 10am-2pm. We picked our dog at 12:15 and they charged us for 2 days. It was never explained to us that we would be charged double if we picked up after a certain time. When questioned, they were basically like, "too bad". We have been loyal customers for almost 20 years. This is the 3rd pet we have brought to this facility. They were rude and so unprofessional to loyal clients. Too bad businesses operate this way...they just lost a customer....can't imagine we are the only ones with this problem. Would give zero stars if that was an option. I highly recommend skipping this place. Plenty of good places that actually appreciate their clients. read more

Our 2 small senior dogs stayed a week at Animal Inn and they were fine ! They both get special food and it turned out we didn't bring enough of one's food and we got a call from the staff to arrive at a good solution. They also had little report cards and we can tell from the notes that they had one on one time with staff and got to do what they enjoy ( one will sniff every blade of grass twice and the other will rumble/ramble - they got to do that ! ) The small stuff is of big importance ! Yes, it is a leap of faith to leave the doggies somewhere for the first time but we give Animal Inn 5 stars - they truly care about your pets and weare happy to recommend them. Picked my dog after a 2.5 week stay. I asked how he was in walks. The girl responded, "he didn't get any walks" What?!? "Oh, you didn't order walks" excuse me? Do not bring any animal or living for that matter, to this facility. They only care about cash, everything is overpriced and will not treat your pet well. Small spaces for optimal money opportunities will not take pets out unless paid for. Loud and overcrowded, most animals are extremely anxious and get no attention. Ok I'm gonna keep this short and sweet. I will never bring my dog back here. Why? you ask....well lets start and end with this. Your dog is kept in a concrete slab kennel 23 1/2 hours a day. Well actually thats only if you pay the surcharge to get your dog out for its awesome 15min of "playtime" on a leash, with no other dogs and oh yea, no play! Also I paid $30+ for a bath for my dog and when I picked her up I'm pretty sure she was dirtier then when I dropped her off...go figure. After speaking with a few other folks with similar sentiments I decided to say hell no to The Animal Inn and HELL YEAH to somewhere other than The Animal Inn. Again the previous review I will give 2 stars bec my pet is alive and well. My dog was here for 4 days. I brought him here because our usual kennel was full upon recommendation from my Mom who had brought her dog here years ago. Our usual place allows the dogs play together and sends daily pictures when our dog is at boarding which is so reassuring. I did pay for daily playtime and received a nice note from the person who hopefully played with our dog daily. I picked him up noting when we got in the car that he had clearly not had the bath that I paid for. When I called to ask, they insisted that he did even though he was in a dirtier state than when I dropped him off. I have never seen him so eager to leave a place as well. Thankfully my dog is ok but I don't appreciate dishonesty and will never trust this place with my dog again. I will not recommend to anyone. read more

This is the first time i go on vacation and i left my dogs at this place... i went on a four day vacation left on a Wednesday 21 and i returned on Sunday which was christmas day. so here i will list a number of things why i wouldn't take them back. 1. when we called to make the reservation they did not tell us my dogs needed two shots.. and the only reason i found out they needed its because i called them on the day i had to travel to make sure what i needed to bring it in.(like food and dog bowls). so 5 hours before my flight i was running around trying to get my dogs the shots. 2. when i got there they did not let me go in to see where they were going to stay at. 3.when checking in i had the GREAT news that they would be CLOSED on christmas day but they wouldn't charge us for the extra day so i was kinda O.K. with it. 4. coming back home on Sunday i decided to stop by just to try to get the dogs and there were people there a bunch of cars and they saw us but didn't bother talking to us. 5. checking out on Monday i had a few surprises. they charged us for Sunday and one my dogs takes medicine twice a day and they also charged us for that and they didn't bother telling us that they would. so i HAD to PAY them an extra 50 bucks that i was not aware of. 40 because THEY WERE CLOSED and 10 for giving my dog the medication. oh yeah i almost forgot about the shots they said they would give it to my dogs and it would cost me right around 250 for both dogs while at the vet they charged me 105 for both of them. 6. when i got home i noticed that my dogs STINKS and one of them just wanted to hide as if she got abused while she was there. This is a place not worth taking any animals and I know that I will never return and will tell my friends not to go there either. This is a place that appeared perfect but once there the true darkness showed. read more

I was somewhat skeptical about boarding my dog at The Animal Inn after reading some of the reviews on this site. I researched and visited local kennels in my area, and to my suprise, The Animal Inn was by far the cleanest and friendliest of FIVE kennels! While taking an unannounced tour with the new manager Stephanie, she explained to me about the change in staff and in management. She showed me the areas where the dogs stay and I felt comfortable leaving there, reservation made. My dog stayed 3 nights and when I picked him up he was as happy and healthy as when he went in. I've kept my dog here twice, a 1 year old yellow lab. People in other reviews talk about not walking the dog and keeping them locked up. You can pay extra for individual play sessions with the staff. However, even if you don't, they still bring your dog out with other dogs to play and socialize. They even bathed my dog on one of the longer stays. Staff was courteous. When I picked him up he was happy and healthy. In fact he didn't want to leave. My dog also absolutely loves playing with other dogs, so if yours doesn't that may be a problem. It's not the most "luxurious" of places but the price is also very reasonable. read more

My dog likes to travel with something familiar, so I bring a little bed for him. They have lost two of them in the last few months or so. One just recently. When I picked him up today he came out with no bed again, but they were able to find it. It was new and I mentioned to the older lady (I'm 71 myself) behind the counter, that they had lost the last brand new one we had left there on his last stay. She said, matter of factly, "I tell people that we're not responsible for bedding ... it's in the contract" No apology or gesture of concern for my displeasure which would have been a more professional and smart business decision. I replied by saying, "perhaps I should be looking for a better contract" Really, how hard can it be to keep track of a 33" x 24" dog bed with his name on it? I might add that, the two younger women who usually check him in and out are always much more pleasant to deal with. For me, The Animal Inn is now on the outs! I dislike writing not pleasant reviews, but my dog is a true member of the family and I am sure others feel the same about there pets so I think it's important to write something. - we boarded our dog here for 1 week with extra walk/play time, understanding this place was Vet owned, and professionally managed. - we dropped off a dog with no problems. We picked up a dog that was extremely stressed, large red bald soars on his elbows, and his feet were swollen and irritated. He also returned home with no "no bark", meaning his snout made the motion of a bark - but no sound came out. While we were not there to see how he was cared for daily/week. The environment when I initially toured the place checking it out was not a busy day, with dogs that could go inside or outside in a long run. There were several dogs barking non stop. The dogs can't play together here, so they just bark at each other. On drop off day, the place seemed chaotic. I wanted to walk out but was leaving on a plane in 4 hrs. Ugh. The young staff at front desk were nice, but that's all I saw. When I peaked around back to see if I could not see people interacting with dogs....there was no one. I pretended I forgot my dogs toy and asked to see him after he was brought to his pen....with hesitation they escorted me back to him. I smelled strong chemicals during pen wash out, the dog barking was insanely loud and non stop, I saw no one walking/playing with dogs (you would assume with 25 plus dogs) someone would have a play time at 9am, nothing. I saw a dog getting a discharge bath and grooming - the guy grooming was gruff with that dog, the room was filthy. I never saw a vet, never saw kind loving attentive dog handlers. I was very turned OFF that I picked up a dog with large inflamed soars, and raw feet.....and no one called me or even commented to me about the issues. 2 days after I picked up my now bark less dog, I brought him to our home vet - our 90 lb friendly lab had stress, infected elbows and mild chemical burn on his feet. Cost me $164.00 in medicine to treat. So, I was not thrilled. Yes, my dog did come out alive, fed. But he was NOT well cared for, and it was a take your money and run deal. Plus, you will likely have vet bills after. I gave a 2 star because my dog came out alive and was fed. But my personal feeling it should be a 1 star. It is not as described. Our 6mo old Bernese Mnt Dog just stayed at Animal Inn for 1week while we were down staying at the Cape. He came home just as happy healthy and clean as he went in. Staff was very friendly and caring and the facility was very clean. We checked him out on 2 occasions during the week to take him to a dog park, hike down some trails, visit Hyannis center, etc. the staff was great when checking him in and out for us and would give us updates on how he had been doing each time. When we would return in the afternoon to check him back in he would get very excited to see the staff which tells me this was a stress free enjoyable stay for my pup. I would definitely use this place again and recommend them to others. read more

Very dissatisfied. I was told by Barnstable PD that animal control could take my 8 mos old Reg Maine Coon Cat to be held in a safe place, i.e.: foster care, etc for a few days. I called animal control the following day, and phone call was returned. However, message given to me by a Court Official was the wrong name. I had to phone Barnstable PD, speak to Officer Ross, to find her. She was placed at this business. I spoke with a very nice young lady, who stated that Sasha, was well taken care of, and a wonderful cat. She did not tell me that this was a business, and I was being charged a daily fee. I phoned the number the next day to ask if I could come and see my cat and bring her, her favorite toys. She said she would speak to her manager. Sandy, a brand new manager got on the phone and was verbally abusive to me, refused any information, and hung up, stating no info was on record. Further investigation with animal control officer Cindy, showed information had been provided to this BUSINESS, not a shelter. I phoned back and was told that due to liability, I would not be allowed to come to see my cat, but could come pick her up. I was treated like a criminal, and verbally abused by Bridgett, who called me a "liar," and hung up on me. I called back to speak to Sandy, and was told that she was not going to speak to me, hung up on again. After reading the poor reviews, I became worried, and now had been told that I was paying a daily fee, hung up on again. Reported this treatment to animal control officer, Cindy, who was very kind, but busy. She said she had taken note, and that Sandy was a new manager. I spent hours between the two places, getting no where. I called this place of business, now that I was a PAYING customer, and was told by Bridgett, that since I was paying a reduced fee, that there would be no further communication, and she hung up on me again. Cindy, animal control, also would not further speak to me. I was left in a position of being unable to pick my cat up, due to time constraints, no litter box or litter with me, and they were using my food, not theirs as they do for other customers. My cat had just been spayed, gotten over a very bad infection, and I became very concerned. I was left with no help at all. I feel helpless, and I would NEVER recommend that anyone use this place of BUSINESS. People deserve respect, and whether a reduced fee or not, I deserved to be heard, and updated. They do not deserve one star. Thank goodness my cat was fine at pick up. I now use a different Pet Motel, with great staff, communication and care toward pets, and owners as well. read more

Our dog, Charlie, has been going to Animal Inn for years. We had tried other places but I was not comfortable at my of them. I was using a trainer and he happened to be associated with Animal Inn. It is well worth the 30+ minutes drive to feel comfortable with leaving Charlie for short or long stays. Bonus is Janine, the Groomer. She is the best we have ever had. read more

I have been bringing my dog here for seven years and have been disappointed for the last year or more after a change in staff. I gave them the benefit of the doubt during that period thinking it was just a transition. Today after picking up my dog I will not be returning. I asked for my dog to be bathed and ready for pick up at 8:30 (when they open). I waited in the cold to be let in (they were late opening up) even though they were standing inside and could see me waiting. I was greeted with an air of disturbance and then told my dog wasn't ready and hadn't been bathed yet. I said I had asked for a certain time and was then told that they never would have agreed to an early pick up time however I specifically asked at drop off if that was too early and was told "no the groomers come much earlier than that and it would be fine." I asked to take the dog without being bathed and when they went to get him it turns out my dog had been bathed after all and would now be going home wet with me. Further, they used to launder the pet bed and blanket on pick up day so it goes home clean. I can't remember the last time that has happened so now I have laundry to do and a wet dog to contend with after being argued with first thing in the morning. I believe they have forgotten that the customer is always right and with that they have lost this long time customer. I would no longer recommend anyone to this place. They have gone downhill and its not worth the 30 minute drive each way that it used to be. Very disappointed! read more

This place is awesome when I called I asked if I could get all 3 of my dogs in the same cage and the women politely informed me that if they are all together she can't guarantee they will all eat equally. I like that it shows they care and want to take care of your pets. Me and my parents have been bringing our pets here for several years and there great. I saw another post that someone put that they were angry because they wanted to leave there cat at the pound and be cheap. Well if you don't have enough money to care for your animals don't have them. Putting your cat into the pound is horrible and sick. Don't take it out on a business because you wanted to be a scumbag and treat your pet like shit. read more

Our Maltese Mix Molly needed a place to stay for a couple of days over the 4th of July weekend, I was happy when I found The Animal Inn, the website was very helpful as were the many great reviews I read. We have never boarded Molly before so I was very nervous, Molly is the literal princess of the house! The staff was very helpful and welcoming and even assured me that I was not crazy when I called to check in! The Animal Inn has been the only place we trust letting our dog stay over for the past 8 years. The other kennels nearby my parents would take their dog always ended up sending home a sick dog. These folks care about the animals in their care. Some dogs come back from kennels hoarse because they simply bark all the time. Some have other issues being away from home. I'm just glad they won't accept other animals with issues and insist on proof of vaccinations including kennel cough. read more

I never hesitate to recommend the Animal Inn. I am amazed how happy Otis is when he arrives at "camp" for his stays. He gets so much love and attention and enjoys his time in the play yard as well. I was hesitant at first to write a negative review, as I've boarded dogs & tropical birds here in the past and had nothing but rave reviews. This time, a couple of weeks ago, our two dogs were boarded for only two days and were absolutely traumatized when we went to pick them up. Upon arriving, things seemed a little more chaotic than in the past regarding paperwork and admission. When we picked the dogs up they were wide-eyed & panting almost to the point of hyperventilating. They each had on the others collar & harness which was odd too since they are different size dogs. Hopefully they gave the meds to the right dog twice a day. The departure report card was also listing the wrong dogs name. This was several weeks ago and the dogs as of yesterday are still running away and dragging their feet in resistance when I go to put their leashes on, which is a brand new behavior. As pet owners we can't really know what goes on behind closed doors, only what we observe afterwards which is why after reading a few reviews from others, I decided I should write of our experience. read more

My family had a horrible experience dealing with them over the care of a lost dog that was unfortunately placed in their care. Jim, in particular was just awful. I used them in 2010 over Thanksgiving and in 2011. the dog came home mean and sick. i payed extra for the playtime & i don't think anyone played with him. i had to pay $200 for a vet visit and meds to cure my 6 month old pup after a stay there. look elsewhere if you care about your animals. read more

One star only because it wouldn't allow me to give zero stars! We recently boarded our 2 completely healthy dogs overnight at The Animal Inn. Both dogs came home with Kennel Cough after being boarded for just 1 day. Our vet charged us $164.50 for both dogs to be examined and prescribed antibiotics. When I called The Animal Inn to discuss what occurred, I was referred to the owner/vet. Not only did he take zero responsibility for what occurred. He refused any type of reimbursement to us for his charges of the boarding costs. There was no concern on how our dogs were doing. No words were spoken that he was going to notify the other pet owners who's dogs were boarded during the same time frame as our 2 dogs. He went on to say it's not "their policy" to offer any types of refunds to customers. This wasn't our first time using The Animal Inn, but certainly will be our last! I would never recommend them to anyone, not just because our dogs got sick while being boarded. But the attitude the owner/vet displayed over the phone when discussing the situation with him. It's obvious this has become "just a business" to him, and no longer has the compassion for dogs that most dog owners expect from an owner of a kennel. Do yourself and your dogs a favor and look elsewhere to board. read more

My fiance and I were going away for a long weekend for our wedding and were very hesitant to board our two dogs as we had never left them before. Under the circumstances we had to pick a place and the Animal Inn came recommended to us. We picked up two very skittish and unhappy dogs after being told that they did very well. Taking one look at them I knew immediately something was not right. We returned on a Sunday and took our dog to the vets immediately the morning after because I could tell something was off. Our vet even said verbatim, "Wow, he got really beat up at this place." The happy, healthy and excited dog we dropped off came home to us with a bacterial infection, an ear infection and an eye ulcer! When we called to speak to a manager we were given to a very unsympathetic, rude, and ignorant man. Not only will we not EVER bring our animals back to this dump but we will make sure all our family and friends know what kind of establishment it is. Having to pay to board our animals and then turning around the next day and paying for medical bills and having to put our dog on 3 different medications is not something I would do again. If I could give this place no stars I would. BEWARE of this place, unless you want your animals coming back to you with a list of infections. I never got a chance to use The Animal Inn. I talked to the owner for a long time on the phone a month before we came to the Cape and felt good talking to her after the bad reviews I saw here. We checked out the place when we came to the Cape and again I felt good and the manger made me feel they would make sure of all of my concerns were addressed to. Our dog is a shelter dog that has been known to escape places. She also is prone to pancreatitis. Well unfortunately one week before we were suppose to leave our dog here our dog came down with hookworm which was a mystery to me because she was on Heartguard Plus which is suppose to prevent heartworm and hookworm. At any rate when I called to let them know that we were declined to have her come there. I was an emotional wreck because we don't know live year round here and didn't know what to do. We had been planning this trip for over 3 years since my daughter came down with cancer. I understood why she couldn't have our dog for the concern of the 150 dogs she was having part of the time our dog was suppose to be there because hookworm is highly contagious. Well with some pleading the manager was nice enough to call around and she found another kennel that would keep her in quarantine. The manager went beyond what she had to do so I think I still would trust having my dog stay here if we need those services again. I can't give any higher star because we never used her. read more
