For many years in Camarillo, we went to Dr Thomas who was very old school, but brilliant. He was conservative in his care and had heard people describe him as an old school vet. After Dr Thomas retired, we went to Ohana for a few years in Ventura, but DeChong and Cam Vet Hospital is the best hands down by far. Dr Chong and her staff are amazing and are truly are the best vets in Ventura County. Thank you for taking such amazing care of my 15 year old silky terrier and 10 year old small poodle. We would strongly encourage anyone looking for a new vet to consider anyone else, so that Dr Chong doesn't get too busy.

I brought my 16-year-old dog, Stanley, here because he was in active pain and I had reached the…read moreheartbreaking point of considering euthanasia. What made an already devastating situation much worse were the comments made by the receptionist. She told me that "it is inhumane to put down a dog with a treatable illness" and then said, "We can't just put down dogs when people bring them in here." Those comments were incredibly insensitive and judgmental, particularly coming from someone speaking to a pet owner facing an end-of-life decision. Stanley had been loved and very well cared for throughout his 16 years. The problem was that I did not have the financial resources to pay for extensive diagnostics and then potentially pay thousands more for treatment. I could have spent everything I had just finding out what was wrong with him and then been unable to afford the treatment. Meanwhile, Stanley was already suffering. Financial limitations are a reality for many responsible and loving pet owners. A person should not be made to feel that choosing humane euthanasia for an elderly animal in active pain is somehow cruel simply because they cannot afford unlimited veterinary care. I understand that a veterinarian has an ethical responsibility to evaluate an animal before performing euthanasia, and I had no objection whatsoever to Stanley being examined by the veterinarian. What I object to is the implication that I casually walked in wanting my dog killed rather than understanding that I was making an extremely painful decision for a dog I had loved and cared for for 16 years. Ultimately, Stanley was euthanized that night. I was already losing a member of my family. I did not need to be judged or made to defend how much I loved him while doing it. Veterinary staff who deal with people at moments like this should understand that compassion needs to extend to the person saying goodbye as well as to the animal.

We started bringing Lula here in February of this year, and had the most incredible service. In the last few months, she had some recurring health issues that her previous vets didn't really address for us. Everyone here, from the front desk to the staff who were more hands-on went above and beyond every time. Unfortunately, we lost our sweet Lula girl in a horrible tragedy and when I called to inform them, as we had an appointment later that week, the empathy displayed was amazing. Her veterinarian then called to follow up, expressing his condolences. On top of it all, we received a card in the mail expressing their collective sympathies. I don't know when we'll get another pet, as this is very fresh, but if we do I will certainly bring them here and recommend this place to all of my friends and family. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Pet Headquarters for all you did for my Lula. (Also posted on google review but wanted to share here too)

I have reported him to the veterinarian board of California in hopes that they remove him from practicing anymore. If you read all the reviews, you will know I am not the only one that feels this way something needs to be done and I'm telling you right now if you want your dog safe and a vet you can trust this place is not it.
