The first time I went to Paris, I was told by a professor that I had, had, had to have the Mont Blanc from this Salon.
So of course we hiked over to try it out, since then we have been back every time we return. Remember that it is quite famous for its pastries and a line will form outside to be seated, so be prepared to wait, and as it happened to people behind us they were told that we were the last ones and that they could leave (whew!), so come early.
The hot chocolate there is to die for, but also know what you are ordering, as I did. I noticed the gentleman next to me was served a tiny steel pitcher and he proceeded to grab a tiny spoon and eat his 'hot chocolate' from it. Since our waitress had the stereotypical "Oh I really don't want to deal with you plebeians'' attitude I got mine but noticed the chocolate was super thick. I knew something was missing. I asked if I could get steamed milk, as this was thicker than syrup. She ignored and ignored my request until the other table got theirs with steamed milk.
I pointed this out to her as she rolled her eyes and gave me the milk to mix the absolute deliciousness that was that chocolate ambrosia! It was the best hot chocolate I have ever had. Ever.
I found the Mont Blanc good but not great the first time I went so in subsequent visits I ordered the macaroons which by far, hands down are the best I have ever had the pleasure to taste.
You can take pastries to go, but I would say if you are only coming here once, enjoy the full french experience! read more
