This is a great record store. It's pretty big, has a great variety, and is decently priced. I have already been here twice now during my short stay in Ithaca. All in all, if you want a great record shop in the Ithaca area, this is the place to go. read more

Angry Mom Records - Vinyl Records Near Me - Ithaca, New York

Our go to spot for vinyl in Ithaca... on the commons - In the basement of the used bookstore. They are always spinning some thing good and seem to always be updating their inventory. Not exactly sure what their Covid capacity is or if they are limiting the numbers at one time you are required to be masked up. read more

I used to look forward to going to Angry Mom, but now I just feel *meh*... I've been unimpressed with how many used records I've purchased here, excited for a listen, and find skips. Now, some scratches are visible, so maybe that's what I get for still purchasing with a visible flaw, but I would think any reputable record store would look/test before stocking. Especially for $20. Remember those kids who would have a dozen CDs floating in their car without cases? And how scratched they got? I think it's time to stop taking in vinyl from those kids, no matter how hip or rare the album is. By now, Angry Mom has been in their new upstairs space for at least 3 months. Great! ...but you wouldn't know it. Maybe I'm getting old, but I'm tired of used record stores with boxes, store fixtures, and other junk piled in corners. This was particularly gross in the "what is this" space right when you get up the stairs- hey, you can buy some comics/books, hey you can buy some posters, hey look at all of this restaurant/cafe stuff shoved against the wall. I was here in the middle of a weekday, only came across one other customer while I was there, and there were at least 4 workers. I assure you none of them were on "let's try to not make this entire place look like a sad bachelor pad" duty. Yes, bachelor pad, because it's always guys running these places. And it smelled like mediocre vegan burritos. At least the one guy who kept going back to one section doing "inventory" smelled like that. And he wasn't standing that close to me. At least the lad who ran the cash register was friendly. I hope he gets a promotion. Somewhere else. I have no problem admitting I've picked up some great (I mean really great) stuff over the 12+ years I've been coming here, but I think it's time to move on. I think they could use a real Angry Mom to whip it in to shape. Good luck. read more

Don't buy from this store. They sell repress records as first pressings and charge a premium. They will not accept returns when you find out they scammed you with a repress records. Terrible customer service. read more

For starters, Angry Moms is located in the basement of the used book store. I walked by a couple of times trying to figure that piece out... There is a lot going on at this address. Book store, vegan cafe with a Star Trek theme and Angry Mom's. So you can take your time and spend a few hours here alone. The store is well laid out and nicely organized by genre, then artist with lots of tabs calling out popular titles. I liked the blues and rock selections as they were well curated and the records were in nice shape. Pricing actually seemed a bit low from what I found. I picked up The Smiths self titled and Lou Reed's "Rock and Roll Animal" for what I would say were below market value. Also scored a great Buddy Guy LP under $5 in VG shape. The fellas seemed pretty affable and chatted with the patrons which is always a plus. The store is well lit and carries cd's and a few cassettes (mostly local titles). It was definitely worth stopping in as it looks like they turn inventory pretty well. read more

Great store with an excellent selection and *very* fair prices. I have been doing business with them from the day they started and have found endless gems - the condition of the vinyl is so consistently excellent that I never even check it any more (and have never been disappointed). Super friendly staff, true believers who know their stuff and aren't snobs about it. The store is clean, well-lit and very well organized, better than most. I have been going to record stores all over North America for decades and can honestly say that Angry Mom is one of the very best record stores anywhere. Definitely worth checking out! read more

They had a pretty good selection and a lot to sift through. I almost wish there was more space so they could spread out what they have stowed under their bins. I also like that it's below the used book store, so that you can check out both while you're there. read more

Damp Dank basement type of record store. Good size- decent organization but didn't find anything I would buy, mostly due to condition. Had to hurry out since I couldn't handle the music being played by cashier. read more

Happened to be in town on business and had read reviews about this shop beforehand. My expectations were exceeded in nearly ever possible way. First off, the jazz section is huge, incredibly organized and reasonably priced with plenty of obscure gems to be had particularly in the free jazz genre. Their recent bin was a playground of everything from folk to weirdo stuff, and that is where I had to stop because I simply ran out of time. I could spend a weekend in that place. Like others said they have nice listening stations, really well setup and the staff was super nice and easy to talk with. A rarity, on both counts, in most shops these days. This is worth going out of your way to visit, you will not be sorry. read more

I have to say, I was a bit blown away by this little find, located in the lower level of the used bookstore in the Commons. I wandered downstairs after having bought a couple of books and was truly amazed at the quality of records this small record store had. All four early Peter Gabriel solo records worth a damn - really? A shit-ton of 45s that I had no time to search through like I wanted - I think I could have been in there for another hour, easily. This little record store has it all for me - quality rather than quantity, except for the wall of 45s I mentioned, which was a truly full collection of soul, r&b, pop and rock from the 60s and 70s. Nice jazz selection as well - I wanted the Ornette Coleman Free Jazz album but didn't have enough cash on hand. Next time I'm in Ithaca I'm going to visit my Angry Mom and dig through those 45s. read more

What an awesome place! Located in the basement of a bookstore, with few frills. The person working was hoping super friendly and helpful. They have an extensive and eclectic collection. A must-see when you visit Ithaca read more

Great selection of new and used records and tapes. I stop in whenever I'm in Ithaca to see what's new.

BEST REKKID STORE I'VE EVER BEEN TO IN MY LIFE. (I need to say it that strongly, in all caps, because my partner and I dropped $350+ there over the course of a few days! We have both been all over the west visiting the supposed meccas for obscure vinyl in Amoebas and Rasputins across CA, record shops in AZ, and small specialty record shops in Seattle and PDX.... and have never walked out with such a massive haul of amazing gems, and at the fairest prices!) About the shop, Angry Mom is set up in the basement/lower level of the Autumn Leaves bookstore with nice organized shelves of vinyl that spans an impressive amount of genres, with a great new arrivals section too for the frequent buyer! Listening Stations, he has2 of those (!!!) so it is even easier to try some random records out and get into some new music!!! Amazing fliers from early hardcore and punk shows line some of the walls, along with a display case that holds some great books. There's also an awesome display out front of record players for sale too. I hate hate hate digging for records at thrift stores and flea markets because I know there wont be any Black Flag, DRI, or Siouxsie lurking in overpriced dingy stacks- the owner George has done all that work and collected the most amazing assortment of the basic record store rock/jazz/country staples with the best selection of punk, metal, and gothy post punk stuff I've ever seen, all that are priced between $8 -$10 and awesome basics like Abba's Greatest Hits was $2.50, Duran Duran $3, etc Here's a partial list of the amazing rare all Original no represses rekkids I swooped in on for length defying yelp review excess (2) Smiths albums $14/$15 each (1)Gang of Four album $18.50 (2) Cure albums $12/$10 (3) Depeche Mode albums $8/$10 (1) Bauhaus bbc sessions $15 and awesome anarcho punk Conflict, Crass, Flux of Pink Indians for $10/$12 (3) PIL albums $6/$10 and an assortment of great metal mostly $8 each and rarities like King Diamond for $15 YAYYYYYYY!! read more

Super rad store. Great variety and well organized selection. I appreciated the listening station to sample my finds. Walked out with 5 records for less than $20. The world needs more stores like this! read more

Yes. Angry Mom is that good. Despite looking relatively small, this place has a great selection of used records. I was only in there for less than 30 minutes and found two records that I've been looking for or meaning to buy. They were both decently priced and in great condition. Neil Young's American Stars & Bars for $5? Yes please! read more

This is truly a wonderful record store. The owner has achieved a rare balance of depth and pricing. Most record stores these days are either CD stores that offer some common titles on vinyl at cheap prices or "collector" stores that charge a premium for everything. Angry Mom fits nicely in the middle - it has plenty of obscure and collectible albums for very reasonable prices, thousands of really cheap used records, and some new vinyl as well. Obscure example: "Hudson Rock" compilation - $5 ; collectible example: "Captain Beyond" with 3D cover - $18 (vs. $30-50 online). Great selection, great prices, great location - worth a trip! read more

I work at a record shop in my hometown, but I had to check this place out after hearing about it. All I can say is..."WOW!" I was glowing as soon as I reached the bottom step, where I was greeted in the kindest manner. I was incredibly impressed by the friendliness of the staff. And then...to see SO MANY RECORDS...it was one of the happiest moments of my life. The well-organized selection of vinyl in this place is absolutely astounding. I want to move to Ithaca just so that I can live closer to Angry Mom and visit everyday. I will be returning each and every time the opportunity presents itself. To the wonderful staff: Thank you, thank you, thank you! read more

Vinyl junkies rejoice! A throwback from the old days of vinyl. You can see multiple rows of tabs, meticulously organization. They clean every record and out of ten used records I bought , nine are mint. It looks like they are having trouble handling their incoming collections as there are stacks of records waiting to be shelved. This will change as new millennia enters the school year and vinyl seems to be back . Prices are very low, compared to NYC shops. I was happy to drive 15 miles out of the way on my way back home to find this gem. read more

Fantastic record store. Huge, well organized selection and incredibly knowledgable staff.

The Bestest record store I have ever been too, selection is delish... Prices are extra reasonable, George and company are some of the nicest fellas you'll come accross in the commons too, so go gorge on in and swim in the lush river of sound opportunities :-) -kb read more

It's incredible that a record store this good exists in Ithaca, NY! Their punk and independent selection is awesomely curated , many niche musical interests can be found here and they always keep in stock the classic hits. The prices are also A+! They also really support local, DIY music and host many touring bands and local shows for free or cheap in the back of the store. The people who work here are incredibly thoughtful about the organization and selection, take great care of their records, are encyclopedias of music knowledge and are awesome folks who you feel good supporting. They're also usually playing really good stuff in the store while you shop. It's a destination for any collector or general music-lover traveling from out of town. You would expect to find a store this good in a bigger city! read more

The reviews for this place seemed too good to be true. Angry Mom is incredible! Huge, well-curated selection, friendly staff...just wow. A must-stop! read more

Great local record store. Considering how small this town is, it's amazing that we have a records store of this caliber. Every time I'm in the staff seems friendly and knowledgable. Wonderful place to lose a few hours and find some vinyl. read more

Ever since I discovered this place, I make periodic trips to Ithaca based on a MUST stop at Angry Moms records. The place is in the basement of an awesome book store, but the guy ( Irish accent..I think) is friendly, professional, and knows his stuff. The place is organized...clean and a true gem for vinyl lovers. I highly recommend it for great prices and selection. Worth the drive from Oneonta. read more

Being a hardcore vinyl guy that's always willing to spend a huge chunk of change, I feel that the greatest complement I can give a record store is COMING BACK A SECOND TIME. Some stores just suck (you know what I mean). ANGRY MOM is a pretty decent store. Great? The best ever? No. But I do find myself coming back here at least once a year. Selection is always good. Prices are good on most things. Yeah, some stuff is a bit on the high end, but no harm done. I always end up finding roughly 30 or 40 pieces during my annual visit. Average price hovers around 8 bucks. Some stuff is as cheap as 3 dollars, and I've forked over I think as much as 40 dollars for an album. But that's the exception, not the rule. Listening stations always work (which is a plus). And they don't give you those "hey, don't touch the merchandise" stares. So a pleasant shopping experience too. read more

I'm always impressed by this store every time I go in. Really great selection, well-organized, and amazing prices. I could (and do!) spend hours looking through their stuff. The owner/guy working there is really friendly and helpful too and led me to some great finds. AND he gave me a really awesome t-shirt for free! Definitely stop in when you're in the Commons (and have a few more hours than you think you need; I swear time goes at warp speed in there). read more

Very good shop in the Ithaca Commons. Staff are not jerks, prices are decent and selection is dope. Only thing I don't like is that its in the bottom of a bookstore. But the space is huge and you can take hours looking through everything. Im a fan, will def come back to Ithaca just to shop at this store if I had the time and funds! read more

I moved last summer, and aside from my friends, Angry Mom is what I miss the most about Ithaca. They've ruined me for other record stores--great prices, well-organized inventory, and a knowledgeable, friendly staff. There's a record-sized hole in my heart now that used to be filled by afternoons browsing the stacks. This will be one of my first stops anytime I'm back in town. read more

One of the best record stores I've been too, in Ithaca or anywhere. Emphasis on used vinyl, with an awesome selection spanning an array of genres from punk to jazz to comedy/old novelty records (the hip hop selection is slim to nonexistent, though that unfortunately seems to be the case with most vinyl shops that don't have a specific hip hop focus). I've experienced a number of used record epiphanies here, usually at awesome prices. I'll vouch for it over any Manhattan record store I've been to. read more

i moved here from LA and man do i miss the three amoebas. however, this place is very bad ass. if Amoeba is the V10 supercar, this shop is the little civic hatchback with the custom turbo b20 that can definitely keep up. the selection is unbelievable for its size. they've got used turntables for sale, two listening stations, and small room dedicated to classical music, and one of the best 'new arrival bins'. i just made a trip out to RI/MA, visited 5 records shops and i couldn't wait to get back to AMR. the pricing is beyond fair. any lower and they won't be able to stay above water so f@#k ebay, support your LRS (local record store), especially this one if you're luck enough to be in town. read more

If I could give more stars I would. Every visit to Ithaca to see my family I stop by Angry Mom Records to purchase albums for my son to sample. They have a huge selection of all types of music. This month I was visiting and went to purchase my son more records. I didn't realize my son had one of the records I purchased so I had to exchange it. The clerk (a nice young man who I will call "D") who had helped me select albums for my son to sample was the same person to help me exchange it. He was great and again helped me pick out a few more. (He had told me they were getting a more in that week and he was right!) By accident the one that I exchanged was left on the counter when I paid for the new selections I purchased. I didn't realize until several days later when I was already back in South Carolina. I called them and spoke with "D" and he was once again very courteous; he remembered me and the fact that I left one album there. He said he had ran after me when he realized it but he couldn't find me. True, because I went in the store next to it to find my sister. "D" was more than willing to help me get my purchase and offered to mail it to me and sending it out today! Yeah. Thank you for your help and professionalism! read more

i love this place. i first came here in march of 2009 and would make the trip up at least a few times a year and spend between $75 and $120. at one point they even gave me a free shirt because of how much i spent, and they always have free stickers. i'm mostly into punk, but i like blues and country as well and look through those sections when i'm there. i've found country records there for cheaper than i thought they should be, but the blues records are a fair price and as for the punk, they have a great selection, they have records that i didn't even know existed, awesome bootlegs of old 80's hardcore bands, i have no idea where they get them. so for punk, they can be a little overpriced, BUT they know that people are willing to pay what they want for them. they are also great to work with when you want to sell your own records. a couple years ago i brought in a bunch of records and they gave me $100 for them, which i thought was more than fair. the owner and staff are always pretty laid back and willing to help out if you need something. great place worth visiting, even just to see the old 80's hardcore punk fliers that line the walls! read more
