Arrived about 8:30am and the place was crowded and got fuller while we were there. Waitress was nice. I ordered a potato & egg taco and a bacon & egg taco with a side of guacamole. My companion ordered a combination platter. The platter and one of my tacos arrived , though it was a potato & bacon (not egg). But we had waited a bit so I ate it without saying anything and it was delicious and filled me up. When my second taco finally arrived I decided to just take it home. The food was tasty, the price very reasonable and the atmosphere was loud, but in a friendly-family sort of way. Would go back if in the area. read more

Authentic SA carne guisada! I'm from SA, born and raised, but moved away about 25 years ago. I visit often as most of my family is there and I've been searching for this carne guisada for a while. The tacos are huge and the tortillas are on point. Damn good homemade flour tortillas. The green salsa is also authentic down home SA salsa. Perfect with the tacos. The pastor was hot, fresh, and delicious. The place looks brand new and very clean. The service was very good and I hit it twice before leaving SA back to crappy Htown. :-(. Houston comes nowhere close to San Anto for good, authentic Tex-Mex food. Angie's Cafe is a must for food tacos. I haven't tried their other items but I plan to. So many good spots in the southside of SA. I miss it dearly. read more

So we decided to come to this restaurant this weekend and try something different to see if the food is exceptional and once again it surpassed the expectation. Raul, the owners is diligent as we walked in the restaurant which was super pack and he address me by my name and let me know that there were 6 people ahead of us and if we would still like to wait. Raul informed us that they sold out of menudos as that is what my mom always orders. As many customers that come here to their new location he remembers what my mom likes. The customer service is exceptional and the constant visual on our drinks and if we needed anything else was awesome. The food we ordered was no nopales a la Mexicana and I ordered the T-bone special of the day which was big and hot the gray was perfect ( Carne Guisada). The restroom were very clean , considering the about of customers they were serving. If you have not eaten in this mom and pop's restaurant you will it, don't miss this . read more

So yes it was a very packed place , but I just think because of the seating space was alil small.. the customer service was good and the tortillas but the food in side the the taco was alil bland. And the potatoes i ordered were good soft and alil crispy all I had to do was add alil salt and pepper. read more

Place was super clean and it's new restaurant. It's was really busy but the wait wasn't long at all. Sweet tea was bussin not too sweet but perfect. The lemonade was a powdered so I won't recommend it. The tacos were super stuffed and full the bacon was nice, crunchy and delicious! I went to this place last week, and right when I walked in I knew it was gonna be great. It smells so good in there ! There was ample seating and it was packed. Despite this the service was great, our server was so nice and quick with our order. I got the caldo with pollo, and it tasted like my mom made it it was SO good. It had chicken that I could cut with my spoon it was so soft, and very very tasty, it had potato, celery and carrots. I added the rice and lime and it was my favorite caldo I've had in San Antonio so far. It also came with a home made tortilla I got corn and it was delicious! My friend got a bean and cheese and a papa and chorizo taco. They were huge ! and they were really yummy as well. I will def be coming back. Also the prices were really good ! I have been coming to this restaurant for years. They recently moved and today I just figured it out. I don't care how busy you are, you don't treat your loyal patrons like their concerns don't matter. We waited 30mins for any type of update on our food. Our waitress barely acknowledged us and we should have known from the beginning as she was snotty with us. When I asked her about it she replied it's coming. 15mins later we asked the owner and he's like well it's busy today. Just basically disregarded. This isn't rocket science! 45mins?!?! They were basic tacos we have gotten many times before! This is not gourmet cooking. I'm never coming back to Angie's. Ever since Angie left this place has sucked anyway. read more

Food was delish. Tacos are huge and well served. My husband got a plate as you can see in the pics. Coffee was hot and service was super awesome. Waitress would come every so often to ask if anything was needed or refill in coffee. We got a coffee, two tacos, a juice and bill was under $20.00. Therefore place is affordable. So many people from my old neighborhood rant and rave about how good Angie's café is so I decided to give them a try. This is a cash only establishment and appears to be always packed. it is only open until 2 PM and its seating area is pretty small. Unfortunately for me that is too many strikes. I would say though that they have nice flour tortillas and they pack their tacos with ingredients.Their beans also seem to have a good bacon flavor to them. read more

I came upon Angies Cafe by mistake while looking for a different place with a similar name. Upon driving up, we saw that it was a small place and were hoping that it wasn't too packed inside. As we walked in we noticed that is smelled clean. There were no lingering smells. I also saw the most recent health score which was an A from the health inspectors. The booths were cleaner than most. They have both booths and tables for preference. They have their specials on laminated card stock hanging around the restaurant. They also have menus and a menu board if placing a to go order. We went for breakfast, and their specialty seemed to be huevos rancheros with just about anything else as a side. Now, I love huevos rancheros and I'm very particular about the ranchero sauce, their sauce isn't too spicy just a touch of heat and you can taste the fresh ingredients that make the sauce. I wanted barbacoa on the side, but they didn't have any on that day. So, I figured I would try the chicharrones with Chile and potatoes. The chicharrones with Chile were pretty good as well as the beans and potatoes. They have very tasty and good sized tortillas. Everything tasted like it was made from scratch. My husband ordered the chorizo and carne guisada. The guisada was fork tender and had a well balanced gravy. The chorizo was also very good. He ordered and additional Piccadillo taco, and man, was that taco generously filled. The portions were hearty and we even took a bit home. Angies was a pleasant mistake. I recommend you give them a try if you find yourself on the south side, or even if just looking for some good Mexican food. Just make sure you are carrying cash. They currently don't accept any other form of payment. When in the area, We will definitely go by again. read more

WATCH HOW MUCH YOU ARE CHARGED! This place has great tacos! I've been going there for years but today was the last straw. For years paying cash is the ONLY payment accepted but noticed my same order fluctuates in pricing. Prices were never posted before and now that they are, every time I go, the prices don't fluctuate anymore but my change back sure does. I understand change is hard to come by anymore but at least if you're gonna be a cash only establishment have change. For the past few months I've gone there and get short changed. Mind you it's normally .10. I don't mind it but today I go in and this time the owner has no change at all and tells me that I'll have to owe him .50 because doesn't have it right now. I asked him about all the times he's shortchanged me and that we should be even. He then proceeded to get upset and and blow up talking back. His math is never correct and coming home I recalculated what I bought and he sure was over charging me. The food is good but I don't feel I should should be shortchanged or overcharged for whatever price they feel like charging for the day. read more

These are the best tacos in town. I work all over San Antonio and so far these tacos are awesome. They are huge with a low price the amount of meat they put in each taco is crazy. Lots!!! They are not cheap. Asada and carne quisada are my favorite. Other places you ask for asada and it looks like ground beef. This place has a real asada taco. Highly recommend this place. read more

Inside you will find some of the best hospitality and food in all of San Antonio without all the hype and "fru-fru" (as my GF calls it) that you get with most touristy restaurants. The restaurant its self is SMALL, maybe 10-12 tables max. If you go during the weekend, prepare for a wait. This place is DEF not good for groups, if you have more than 4 your wait time will be a little longer, but they will accommodate. The menu is a single sheet, double sided. Which makes for a good selection of foods without feeling overwhelmed. Prices range from $2.99 to about $7.99. Breakfast and Lunch is available all day! Be sure to take a look at the "Angie's Specials", its a great deal on LOTS of food and the price includes your tea! Chips and Salsa are available at an extra cost. Unusual for a mexican restaurant. Chips are housemade, and the salsa seemed more like a ranchero sauce, but it was still good. My girlfriend had the special with the Enchiladas with the Carne Guisada, Some of the most tender and best tasting I've had in a long time! I had the special with the "Carne Asada Ranchero". Which is chopped skirt steak grilled with diced onions and jalapenos. It seemed like they left it on the grill top a LITTLE too long as it was kinda crispy, but it was still good! Each plate is served with rice, refried beans and the best homemade tortillas! They're so good, it will have you second guessing your grandma's tortillas! As for why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Well the day I went the AC wasnt working very well, so it was a LITTLE warm inside. Get that AC fixed and its DEF 5 stars! :) Oh, and they dont take credit cards, so bring your cash! read more

Wasn't expecting such a great experience but we just had to get on here and tell the world about this place. We had an hour to eat lunch before class and after eating everything around Texas A&M San Antonio we got tired of the options. This was the last place I thought we end up considering the amount of fast food near by and its appearance wasn't helping to pull us in right away. However our time limit and hungry tummys made us adventurous. We were out of place for sure but the food looked so good. Staff was helpful, the prices were good but the portions were unbelievable. Asada plate made more than enough tacos for me and my boyfriend got the Angie's special which was an amazing deal for the amount of food.
