You pay for the atmosphere. It's an old old building. Not many options in this town. It was decent. I had the cabbage soup which didn't have much flavor except for spicy. Also had a fish course with wild rice. Both were okay. Not bad, but nothing exceptional. Most of the employees are very very young, but do okay. Wait staff was very friendly ordered an appetizer salad entrée and dessert. Everything come out in perfect timing. They gave you plenty of time to eat each course. That's very important to me. I don't use this app much, but sometimes my kid and I entertain ourselves by reading reviews, and some about this place in particular are pretty comical. Here's a review of my most recent time (last Thursday 3/27/25). Lately the proprietor herself has come under social media scrutiny for alleged racist comments made to a staffer. While I can't confirm or deny the veracity of this, and such allegations can tank a business's reputation, it clearly hasn't hurt the Boomer crowd that's so white it glows in the dark who attend special entertainment events such as the Elvis impersonator who entertained this night. The show was scheduled at 6 p.m., and Angela's was offering its full dinner menu. The building is likely on an historic registry, but that wouldn't prevent necessary physical updates to accommodate the mostly elderly and disabled clientele. Upon arrival at the front door, a cluster of groups with reservations were crowded in a too-small space at the bottom of an unused staircase and adjacent to the top of a staircase where two staff were inexplicably collecting parts of groups and slowly teetering them down the carpeted staircase and landings to a banquet room. In our case, the young woman was flummoxed and said there was no reservation under the name I said because I was unable to guess the right *first* name among our party of 10 and she said the "first and last names had to match." Or else what? Because of all the people trying to scalp tickets and sneak in to see the Elvis impersonator who was just at the senior center last weekend? The other waiting parties (and my elderly mother with her walker) had to remain standing there until someone else from our party showed up and guessed the right first name. I said, "the last name is on the list" (and it's an uncommon name - we are not Adkins or Pauleys or something. Regardless, then it was our turn to dangerously and precariously make our way down the stairs. The 2 - 3 servers who were assigned to serve in the room were actually great, but I'm just sayin' Angela, assess who you have available and assign greeting / explaining / hosting duties to the ones who can read, think, engage and navigate the world a little more quickly. Literally each new person who crammed themselves in the front door asked what was going on and where we needed to be. So then tables are up against windows where it promptly raised to over 100 degrees, and only Angela herself is trained on lowering the blinds. Half of our party got their drinks and food promptly, and the other half of us got our food at 7:20 p.m. (having arrived at 5:45 to hopefully get seated before the music started. The first half was packing leftovers in to go boxes and literally leaving when we got our dinners. My parents went ahead and asked for to go boxes upon being served. None of this was the servers' fault. "The kitchen was backed up." My thoughts: reallocate your staff for greeting / hosting on special event nights. Offer a limited menu published in advance with your show promo. Accept about 1/4 to 1/3 fewer reservations - an amount you can handle and serve. And you know the thing with the temperature and the blinds is going to happen every night it's not rainy. Quit being surprised and unprepared for the same thing you do all the time. read more

My partner and I stopped in for dinner here this evening, it was such a great experience. It was a little near closing time and they treated us as if they had no intentions on closing soon. Food was great, the rolls were amazing. Our server was super sweet. The owner checked on us multiple times and was sweet enough to give us both a hug thanking us for coming. Pretty view, great service, and yummy food. I ordered a lobster stuffed whitefish with a house salad. The house salad wasn't my cup of tea, but the main was delicious!! This truly breaks my heart that I had to even make This review. It was our first time here, and we were super excited to try it. However, we were extremely disappointed! The staff & owners were really nice, but the food was what was so disappointing! My green beans tasted odd and were in some type of dark brown juice and luke warm, the cheesy potatoes tasted old and like that had been reheated but were still somewhat cold. The hubs ordered the special and it was ok.. We have heard such wonderful things about it, but we left extremely disappointed! Maybe they were just having an off night. We had salisburysteak the other night it was like no other Salisbury Steak I have ever had! Please either put it on your menu or offer it more as a special! We had a 6:00pm reservation last week. It started out fine. We were seated promptly by our host who was very cordial. Our server was very sweet and took our drink order while we waited for our friends to show. When they arrived, they got their drinks and were ready to order. This is where we began to have issues. My wife ordered the meatloaf which was so sweet that after two bites she had to quit eating it. I tasted it and I had to agree. She ordered a Turkey and Sprite and they served it a pint glass. Our friend order the spinach stuffed chicken that was dry. The mashed potatoes were cold. She ordered a shrimp cocktail which she never got. After we ate our server disappeared. We wanted to order dessert but it took forever to get her to come back and we waited another 10 minutes. My wife was so frustrated that we had our server put it in a to go box. Again she disappeared as we wanted to pay our bill and leave. We got comped for the mashed potatoes and the server apologized for not placing our order for the shrimp cocktail. What a great place to spend a wonderful evening. We were intrigued by the history of the building but really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Angela, the owner, stopped by our table to check on us, and once she learned of our interest in history returned several times to share stories of the building and the local area. We went this evening for my dad's 81st birthday. When we arrived the young man at the door said he would be right back as he was taking a to go order out to a customer. He came back in and out and back in again each time saying he would be back. Finally, a lady did come and seat us. Twenty minutes or more went by and we still hadn't had a server come to the table. When she finally did we decided to order drinks appetizer and entrees because we didn't know when she would ever come back. We all had salads...which had a nice variety vegetables, however my salad had a hard piece of plastic in it. Thankfully I didn't bite down too hard. I would have left this solely as a Facebook review, but then I was harassed by the owners friends for leaving a poor review. This is my original review from March 17, 2017. So I'm currently sitting in the restaurant waiting on my food.... I've been waiting on my food for over 2 hours. We're here for a rehearsal dinner and we've been here for 3 hours. Not even kidding, the brides grandmother had to get an additional oxygen tank while we've been waiting. Thank God. Our food just got here. Charming everything. We sat in the lower room with a shady view of the river, and Mr. Green Jeans peaked up from near the river bank. The food was wonderful, and Angela stopped at the table to make sure everything was OK. It was a slow night, and she chatted with our table quite a bit, we were having such a lovely time talking. We are always interested in ghost stories. Her place is on the National Register of Historic Places so we asked if it were haunted. She said not currently because she got rid of "the mirror" and proceeded to tell us a perfectly delicious, extended about a haunted mirror that had been brought from England. We were passing through on a road trip, so sadly can't become regulars, but would be back often for the food and the great service if we only were able. read more

My husband and I met another couple for dinner here on April 6, 2018. We had been there a couple of times but our friends had not. Let me start by saying, as we left, I apologized to our friends for our choice of places to eat! We ate at a table downstairs by a window. There were only 4 tables of customers downstairs. It took several minutes for our waitress to appear with a basket of rolls. Then she had to go get some small plates for each of us. She took our drink order, 1 water, 1 ice tea, 1 Diet Coke, and my husband ordered an Arnold Palmer ice tea, which the waitress had no clue what that was. It took probably 10 minutes to get our drinks, minus the Arnold Palmer, which she said she had to go back upstairs to get the lemonade. Several minutes later he got his drink. She takes our food orders, 2 baked steaks, 1 chicken liver dinner, and 1 cabbage soup and house salad. 2 others in our party ordered salads as one of their sides. About 10 minutes later she comes back and tells my husband they are out of chicken livers, which I would think she should have known when he placed his order. So he changes his to the fish dinner. About 20-25 minutes later she brings the 3 salads and says our food should be right out. Thankfully, she was wrong about this as most people like to have their salads before the entree, not with it. Approximately 20 minutes later, she brought our meals. The scalloped potatoes were COLD, not just barely warm, they were COLD! My baked steak was warm, but not hot. I sent the potatoes back to be heated. Our friend who got the cabbage soup, took one bite, and said it was so spicy, she couldn't eat it. She sent it back and just ordered a side of scalloped potatoes. My husband said his fish was barely warm, and our friend who ordered baked steak said his steak and potatoes were barely warm, but he was too hungry by this time to send it back. The only thing that was actually hot when we got it, was my okra. The scalloped potatoes were not like any scalloped potatoes we had ever had before. They were chunky, not sliced, and kinda tasted like they had just used some sort of melted cheese. I've had boxed scalloped potatoes that were 10 times better! We had to continually ask for refills, and it took way too long to get them! I don't know if the problem with the temperature of the food was a kitchen issue, or a waitress issue. Our waitress would disappear for 10-15 minutes at a time, so I tend to think our food sat and got cold, waiting for her to pick it up. She was friendly, almost too much so, at times. My husband and I had eaten here probably 3 times before this, and had never really had any complaints. This was our absolute last visit. I truly don't expect this restaurant to be in business much longer. read more

Two stars for friendly staff. The food, however, wasn't good. My husband will eat just about anything but he he couldn't muster a second bite of his seafood pasta. It seemed to me like a lot of the dishes were pre-made, the stuffed chicken was dry and the entire center was cold. The pasta was the only warm thing on any of our plates. My son had the chicken parmigiana and it too was cold! I feel like for the prices, unacceptable. read more

However, the "dining room" was cold, dingy and overall uninviting but was the only place with a view of the river. The rolls were delicious but everything else had far too much salt. I feel that it may have tasted quite good with about a quarter of the salt used. We did have a view of the river, so that was nice, but we were hoping for something much more cozy. The food was ok, but not great. The steak I ordered medium rare was served at least medium. When the evening begins with the hostess complaining, "Alright, I'm coming, I'm coming!" in response to your ringing of the bell you've been directed to ring by a note on the desk, you know it's going to be a memorable one. My food, the 10 oz. filet, mac and cheese and baked potato were very good. The waiter, Brandon, was an attentive, affable lad. The worst part of my meal was the very fussy 1/4 of our party whom I've actually never heard say anything positive about anything at any time (as I said, Brandon was lovely.) That is to say, the worst part of the meal UNTIL... On our way out the door, owner Angela staged a confrontation with the other 3/4 of our party in front of a small crowd. "I heard you weren't happy with your meal," she inculpated we-who-said-nothing-negative-at-all. I left my boyfriend to deescalate the woman, (as I had just spent $120 for 2 and had nothing more to give at that time.) "Which," I then thought to myself, "is the amount you pay for a meal at a restaurant with professional management who is asking out of concern for the patron's experience rather than to bully them with no consequence of retaliation." No consequence for retaliation except, of course, the passive-aggressive internet option, so: behold. The owner becomes the worst part of our dining experience and the implacable woman in our party now becomes SECOND worst (congratulations!) read more

Last year this was one of my favorite places to eat. Tonight we went there for dinner and they have cut the quality of the food down to the point it was terrible. My husband and I ordered the ribeye steak which had zero flavor. I'm sure it was a frozen steak. I even dipped mine in ketchup and I don't even like ketchup. My "ranch" salad dressing tasted like miracle whip watered down and add garlic. I ordered a glass of Chardonnay and even that tasted like a cheap brand. I was so disappointed because I used to love this place. My six year old ordered chicken tenders and said she couldn't eat them because they were chewy. The hostess was pleasant and seated us immediately. The wait staff was also friendly and very attentive. Our appetizers were very good (we had cheese sticks and crab dip). The waitress kept us stocked on rolls and extra bread for the dip. We had a variety of dishes: fried whitefish, spinach stuffed chucked, a filet, and grilled chicken. All were very good. The grilled chicken could have been warmer but overall not a bad dish. The fish was very good. It was perfectly cooked. Excellent breading and crispy but not greasy. The filter was cooked as specified. Angela (and her husband) made sure we were satisfied. The servers did a bang up job. I would go back for another meal. read more
