I adopted these beautiful kittens after being rejected at Angel Paws
    Chris P.

I'm sorry to have to write this but I had an awful experience at Angel Paws recently and I'd encourage any one reading this to adopt anywhere other than there, to avoid having an experience similar to mine. My son and I went into Angel Paws looking to adopt a pair of cats and wound up falling for two very sweet siblings who had been at their shelter for about a month. I filled out forms to adopt both of them and when I didn't hear back, returned 3 days later to visit the cats and check on our application. That night, finally , a volunteer called me and we spoke for about 20 minutes, going over the usual stuff, checking to see if I would declaw them, if cats are allowed where I live, what I'd feed them, my experience with animals, etc. and I explained that I've lived with cats all my life have a beautiful pet friendly home they could visit, and would gladly pay the $250 adoption fee for which they asked. I was told I'd hear back the next day as to when I could pick up the cats. A few more days passed, so I visited the cats again and checked on the application. This happened twice and then finally, 8 days after I filled out the initial forms, I received a brief email saying my application, "unfortunately" had been rejected. Don't waste your time here. Angel Paws is run by a crazy cat lady who thinks that no one other than she is qualified to take care of the cats and wants to keep them all for herself. I've raised cats my entire life and I'm unqualified to adopt two of theirs??? It's a shame, since a lot of good people volunteer there. I spoke to a number of them after this happened who told me my experience had been typical, stay away.

I don't understand the bad reviews for this shelter. I adopted a cat from Angel Paws-Colonia in August 2017 and have stayed in touch with them, including volunteering there for a while when I was between jobs. I paid the then-standard $75 (now $100) adoption fee after a few days' wait to be approved (understandably, they needed an OK from my landlord). The owner and volunteers made it clear that I could call them with any questions at any time, even years down the road. And one of the volunteers phoned me after a few weeks for a good long chat about how my new cat was settling in, and reminded me to stay in touch with them if I moved out of the area or, God forbid, had to re-home the cat. Before I called Angel Paws I'd been jerked around by other central NJ shelters that I won't name (and didn't trash on Yelp even though I should have--e.g., one lied about a male cat's peeing and spraying habits). Clearly our experiences vary with these shelters. But if you're turned down for an adoption, it's for a reason, and you shouldn't take revenge on the shelter by posting lies on Yelp.

Can I cremate my hamster here? If so how much

Yes. As for the price you would have to check with your vet or directly with crematory. Sorry for your loss.

I travel a lot, and so it wouldn't be fair to the animal for me to have another cat. I was staying just across the channel in Staten Island, and when I found this place, I was here! They do take reservations as well as walk-ins, and it's only $15 to get in. The place is very clean and well kept. The cats are all ages, and they are just so friendly. This place works with a local rescue, and all the kitties are available for adoption. Some of the cats wanted to play, others just laid there and observed, but were. Willing to get a nice. "Scritch" behind the ears (scritches are better than scratches.). There are plenty of cat toys to play with, and I also downloaded a cat toy with things like fish and mice going across the screen on my phone, which the cats found interesting. I had an hour with the cats, and I had a blast. They also sell souvenir clothing, and of course they take donations to help with their good work. What a great time, I hope to come back when I'm in the area. Thank you!

It was so good to meet and talk to the women who take care of these cats and to know they are there for the love of the animals. All the cats looked healthy and well cared for. I recently had to let my much-loved cat who was 18 years old go. He will never be replaced, but I think I am now up to finding someone else who will again fill my heart with joy and someone who will be given the best cat life ever. I interacted with all the cats but found myself really drawn to one particular cat. I filled out an application with Angel Paws, now I wait.

What I didn't realize was that I was talking (texting) with Dr. Mini, herself, even though she was ON VACATION! I stumbled on happy paws on google/facebook and I really wish another vet had an opening and was able to come to our home. From the second I spoke to Dr Mink I felt rushed. I initially called her around 12/1pm to ask if she had an opening and she did from 6-8pm that she can be here.. I tried to call her back to confirm but she said she was in a house call and she'll call me back.. call back never happened.. turned into just a text exchange confirming she can come between 6-8pm. When she got here at 6:30 all we wanted was 10 extra minutes with our girl.. she made it seem like I was asking for an hour and said she can give us 5 minutes as she has another appointment right after.. I already got annoyed at this comment right from the beginning. When she came in first thing she asked for was payment.. no asking of what our girls name was, how old she was, what was going on.. nothing.. zero sympathy.. went straight for payment and then straight to almost giving her the first shot to put our baby to sleep.. she then gave us maybe 5 minutes and went straight to shaving her paw and putting in the IV line.. After our girl was gone the Dr gave us zero information about cremation.. all I got was can you pickup her ashes in Clifton? That's it.. no name of the company nothing.. we were also in total shock still so even asking these questions then completely went over my mind. I had to text her the next day asking when we can pickup her ashes and when they will be ready.. all I got was an excuse saying she sent the information already but the text didn't go through so she will resend them. In the end we picked up our girls ashes and paw prints on Tuesday, all no thanks to the Dr, I called the cremation place myself and was told everything was ready for pickup. I just hope this review helps others.. we were going through one of the worst days with our girl and looking back at all the things that happened I really wish we went with someone else.

The groomer was next door at the time (I think at the small animal shelter) and noticed I was waiting outside her door. She proceeds to tell me she wasn't expecting me yet (literally 5 minutes before my appointment) but that it's ok. We walk inside. She goes on about how this time isn't usually for cats and asked if I saw the fine print on her site about it. When I booked on her website there was nothing that mentioned specific times for cats only, and even if there was, why would you confirm the appointment if the time that I picked is not ok? Weird. This place is like half apartment half grooming salon. She has two cats of her own just roaming around. There's hair all over the floor, I'm guessing from the night before and/or lack of cleaning properly. Maybe get your own cats out of there so other animals aren't more scared...and how hard is it to sweep a floor? She proceeds to bring me to a basic table covered with random things, to see my cat and talk about what my cat needs done. She becomes frazzled once she found out my cat pooped in the carrier on the drive over, and now she's not able to do the service in the order she normally does. (Lots of dogs and cats hate the car and carriers and poop. That should be expected) If you're a such a professional you should be able to adjust things as needed. (she didn't even check him yet to see if he had feces on him or not. Come to find out he actually didn't so she frazzled herself for no reason.) She tells me she's a holistic groomer (no scruffs and no restraints) and if my cat becomes unmanageable she will stop service as she doesn't scruff cats because it can make them angrier (umm...even the vets do that). Whatever you say, lady. We talked about what we will be done, and I leave my cat there expecting her to do her job. I shrugged that weird stuff at first all off because ehh stuff happens, and maybe she's having an off day, and this woman does have good reviews so, I'll let it slide. Not even 15 minutes later she calls me to come get my cat because he's not handleable. Seriously?? My cat has never even given the vets a problem or any person for that matter. She said she started to brush him and he was growling and hissing (yeah that's what cats do when they aren't happy, not a shock there) so she said she put a cone on him. (I'm sure that pissed him off more, and she'll use a cone but not scruff? Lol) Then she said she tried to continue to brush him out and when she got near the matted hair by his hips he attacked her. (Little red marks on her arm, nothing serious at all) His mats on his hips are so close to his skin you can not brush them out! I've had a vet tell me that in the past. They need to be buzzed. No wonder he got even more angry, he was in pain. She tried to tell me she sees mats like that all the time and they can be brushed out with certain brushes, and she proceeds to shows me a brush. I literally have the same one at home among 5 other kinds, and that brush she showed me is for undercoats, not removing mats, but nice try! After calling her out on her bs, and telling her I do brush him and wipe him almost daily, she gets a snarky attitude and asks me well then why is he in this condition? The cat is dirty because he doesn't clean himself at all, and he likes to roll around in corners of my unfinished basement. I really do try to keep up, but brushes and wipes will only remove hair and top layer dirt and oil, not undercoat dirt and oil, and not mats either. She recommends more brushing and waterless shampoo. Lol! I get my cat back and pay her $53 (deposit fee with tax)-- which I will be disputing with my bank because literally all she did was brush him. He was panting like crazy the entire way home. That doesn't even happen to him when he goes to the vet! Avoid this place especially if you have a cat. Maybe if holistic ways actually worked there would be more holistic things out there. Ugh. What a waste of time and unnecessary aggravation for my cat and myself. I will be bringing him to the vet, which will be way more expensive, but at least they will get the job done.

Our first visit Matt told us his dog attacked his child on three different occasions. This didn't sit well with us AT ALL, but we decided to try a second session because we paid $580 and obviously wanted to get what we paid for. The second session I mentioned how our dog was very nippy and I'd like advice how to stop that. During this time he informed me his child just had a birthday party and his wife knew not to do it, but she let their dog out of the crate and he attacked a child. Matt seemed more concerned about his image as he said that it was embarrassing because everybody knew what he did for a living. This didn't sit well with me AT ALL and after discussing with my husband, we agreed that having a dog trainer who owns a reactive dog that attacks children can't possibly give us the tools we require to ensure our dog doesn't become like that. If he's unable to control his own dog then how can his advice and training rollover to his clients dogs? We hired Matt on false pretenses. Had he been upfront and honest with us that he had an out of control dog, then we would have never hired him. He refunded 1/3 of our payment due to him being uncomfortable working with us due to our concerns, which is laughable as we shared valid concerns. We 100% deserve the full refund since he was dishonest when we hired him, because no he could not give us the tools required to ensure our dog wasn't aggressive towards people or children since his dog is reactive dog. I'm truly disgusted by his business and for what he charges for 3 sessions considering he can't even train his own dog. So hire if you want, but be aware Matt has a dog in his home who attacks children so if that's the kind of dog trainer you want then go for it. I personally would rather hire a trainer who can control his own animals though.
