I went to D'Orsi's Bakery today, August 16, 2026, and I have to say I 100% recommend this…read moreestablishment! I stopped in to purchase some pastel de nata, and I was immediately impressed. The bakery was super clean, all the desserts looked fresh, and the prices were very reasonable. Most of all, I loved the customer service! Since it was my first time, I had a few questions, including whether they had a menu. The gentleman assisting me was so pleasant and explained that because they have so many new pastries, it can be difficult to keep one menu completely up to date. He was incredibly kind and welcoming, which really made a great first impression. I also noticed they have summer hours starting at 6 AM, so if you're an early bird looking for breakfast before your commute or part of your morning routine, definitely check them out! They have so many different options, including sandwiches. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back and trying more!

What a lovely local bakery/ cafe/coffee shop…read more Bakery items ranged from donuts to Italian cookies to cakes, bread, and more. I wanted to bring some goodies home to my hubby so I selected some hot cross buns, linzer tart cookie, and a canoli. The latter was soggy and they exchanged it for a crisper option. My iced latte was tasty, wish they offered low fat milk though. Love their packaging of tying string around the boxes too. Street parking available. Support local businesses!

I genuinely wish Yelp allowed me to give more than 5 stars, because this place deserves an 11/10…read morefor customer service alone. The first cake I ever ordered from Pinho's was a beautiful double-stacked birthday cake. The craftsmanship was incredible. It was artistic, aesthetically beautiful, extremely high quality, and tasted just as good as it looked. Unfortunately, after picking it up, we made a mistake transporting it in the car and the cake completely fell apart on the way home. This was entirely OUR fault, not the bakery's. We brought it back about an hour later hoping there was anything they could possibly do to save it. What happened next is the reason I'm writing this review. The owner went completely above and beyond for us. She stayed HOURS later than she needed to, personally working to rebuild and restore our cake. She somehow managed to bring it back to life and make it beautiful again. She didn't charge us anything for all that extra time and work, and then, incredibly, even gave us another cake on the side. That kind of kindness and dedication to a customer is something I won't forget. I'm back at Pinho's again now for another birthday because after that experience, choosing where to get the cake wasn't even a question. Their cakes are beautiful, creative, high quality, and absolutely delicious, but it's the people behind them that made me a returning customer. 5/5 for the cake. 11/10 for the service. Thank you again for what you did for us. You turned what could have been a birthday disaster into a memory we'll always have.

The layers were literally sliding off,, you can see it in the pictures and when we cut it, you can notice in the pictures the cake broke apart in the middle. It clearly wasn't properly set or supported. Yes, the vanilla cake with guava flavor was delicious, but that doesn't make up for how stressful and disappointing this was during such a special moment. What made it worse was the response from the bakery. No real apology, no effort to fix it just told we could buy another cake. Completely unacceptable. We should had been offer some sort of compensation or refund at least half for the poor job they did !

When I brought home the guava cake from Mery Cake for the first time, I could not have enough, my kids could not have enough, and my wife could not have enough, The pies are amazingly moist, and never uberly sweet, just perfect (we dont like uberly sweet stuff in my family!!!) and now, every time that I am in the neighborhood I cant come home empty handed! My wife orders ahead so I can pick up when she knows I'll be in Linden. The staff is so good! they are super nice and welcoming people!!! Also, if they happen to have empanadas when you visit, grab em!!! They are the best empanadas I ever had!!! And I always thought my aunt's were the best for more than 30 years.

This is the least impressive grocery store in my rotation, and is in dire need of a complete…read morefacelift but that doesn't mean it's complete trash. ShopRite of Carteret has been around for decades as the main source of food for those living in Carteret. To get your groceries elsewhere you'd need to go to Linden or Woodbridge. Pros: they've remodeled their prepared foods section a few years ago and there are a lot of tasty looking options, because of the local demographics there is a plethora of hard to find Indian and Hispanic cooking ingredients, there is a very large selection all around (I typically shop at Wegmans and while they have everything I need, sometimes they don't have certain brands or new items that I want and shoprite does). Cons: there is a dingy feel but it's not a dirty store (probably due to it just being very old and not updated), there is a very mixed bag of clientele here which is a good thing but sometimes it's hard to know what to expect, cashiers are ok- most are high school students which is fine but for the most part their priority isn't your shopping experience it's talking to their friend one line over, I've had multiple experiences where I was charged for someone else's item or the cashier did not use the coupons I gave or they rang up the same item multiple times even though I was only purchasing one- not a huge deal and they can take care of it at the courtesy counter but this literally always happens here and nowhere else. The biggest issue I have is that a manager needs to be called for every little function that is out of a normal transaction, this includes but is not limited to: use of food stamps (common in Carteret), use of checks, price discrepancy, etc, this really makes the line super slow. The produce also tends to go bad before the produce from any other store I shop in, and the selection of organic foods is very small but is at least increasing. 3/5

She was in the self checkout area I already thought she was being odd because she stood next to me at one point when I was scanning my items. My godmother and I had one cart and paid separately. I wrong my stuff up paid and ring my godmothers items up and she paid for her stuff. Neither one of us had that many items def under 20 items all together and as we were leaving the woman stops us at the door by her register. She looks at my cart and asks if I have a receipt.... Um yes I just checked out of course I have a receipt. I said we have two receipts. I just hand her the receipt and ask her if something is wrong . She looks at my cart and looks at me then looks back at my cart. I ask her again because she isn't saying anything completely ignores me. She then asks how much meat did I purchase. Now I purchased some and my god mom purchased some she wanted a count I said I don't remember an exact number you have the receipts she had both at this point. We hAve proof of everything in the cart being purchased. After she couldn't "catch us for anything" because we DID NOT STEAL ANYTHING she goes oh here you go hands the receipts back. Then she says you just scanned everything so fast... as if that was an excuse to pull us to the side and question us on the amount of stuff we purchased. SHE DIDNT STOP ANYONE ELSE! This was my first time going to the ShopRite and I already knew it was odd because the seafood sign had a pay before you receive your items sign... I will never be back!

Born and raised in New Jersey, I've driven past Elizabeth countless times but never had a reason to…read morestop in....UNTIL I heard about Alkazar Bakery! An acquaintance of mine on YELP kept posting these DELICIOUS photos of a number of different pastries from this bakery that I just had to see if they tasted as good as the pictures.... and trust me, Alkazar Bakery did not disappoint! The bakery is full of delicious Uruguayan, Argentinian, and Peruvian cakes, cookies, and pastries. I decided to order a dozen bizcochos (sweet bread), three I ate right there in the shop and the rest I took home to my family! The bread itself is so sweet and savory that it's flaky exterior literally melts in your mouth! Inside the bread, you can choose from a variety of fillings, my favorites being ham, caramel, and guava and cheese! The caramel bizcochos might be my favorite thus far, for in addition to the caramel filling the entire bread tasted like an anisette cookie! Absolutely scrumptious!! Even the plain croissants cannot even be described as plain... I've just never tasted a bread so loaded with taste all on its own. I must add, that Alkazar also serves fantastic coffee. I usually drink my coffee black or with a splash of milk, but since I was at the bakery I decided to go all (milk and sugar) and it was nice and hot...and sweet just like the pastries in the shop! I have no idea what kind of coffee beans they use, but frankly I don't think it matters. It's that good! I believe it is also worthy to note that the bakery itself provides a very warm and relaxing atmosphere to just sit and enjoy your coffee or pastry. They have a decent amount of seating for a bakery, beautiful mirrors and colorful lights along the walls, and phenomenal customer service. I walked into Alkazar not even knowing how to pronounce "bizcochos" but the woman behind the counter was patient and kind.I wrote down "bizcochos" and she just smiled and knew exactly what I wanted! She then told what was inside each bizcochos, and made small talk with me about the weather (it was freezing that day!!!), and made me feel right at home. Random odds and ends- The prices are extremely reasonable. There is plenty of street parking along with a small lot only for Alkazar customers only. The restrooms were CLEAN, and they are open to 6pm every day except Sunday! That's pretty good for a bakery. Most close around 3 in my area. I've always enjoyed pastries, from your standard danish to baklava, but I've never tasted anything like the bizcochos I had at Alkazar. This bakery is truly special and I will be back!

Living on the west coast, I had never had anything like it. We tried 2 empanadas, beef and ham and cheese and also a bizcocho rolled in sugar which was fresh out of the oven. The empanadas were seasoned perfectly and the crust was flaky and tender. The bizcocho pulled apart into flaky, warm layers. The exterior had a beautiful crunch to it and it was really perfection. I paired it with a cappuccino which was delicious with a sprinkle of cinnamon. The staff was so sweet and gracious, taking the time to explain the pastries to me in the midst of their busy morning.
