I was lucky enough to be invited by a friend on beta-scouting fly-around. We buzzed the Twin Peaks, we came right up on Pioneer Peak, then we flew over Hatcher Pass and came back into town. This flight was in the winter, which added a great extra layer to everything. It was great seeing these familiar places from the air, and CLOSE (way closer than a jet could ever dream of getting). I got some great photos. If I could afford it, I would be taking flights like this on a weekly basis.

My excitement was short lived as I soon found that the product I was sold and paid for- is far from the goods received. After years of not flying due to unprofessionalism, unavailable aircraft, and unavailable instructors- I could not justify waisting my time with this company. I've asked for my money back multiple times. The reply that I have gotten from fly around alaska is "we don't do refunds"- followed by silence. I have been hesitant to leave reviews because of the fact that they have my money. Recently I've been contacted by the owner with threats of a lawsuit for being slanderous. My review is 100% truthful and honest. So buyers beware- I paid over $65,000.00 for the professional program that was to include multiple ratings and certifications.. All that I have received is a private pilot license, some c-150 time, & a lot of head aches.

However, the wind kicks up to a different level in the afternoon in Palmer so your experience is more than bumpy or delayed by the weather. 2) Prior to arrival, details to your schedule are not transparent and will change. 3) CFI experience is lacking, I was shuffled from one CFI to another. 4) Owner speaks ill of staff and students behind their backs, drama queen who will take delight in trolling. 5) Plane maintenance and condition of planes is very suspect. 03L had maintenance issues for 3 or 4 days for me while also vomiting oil everywhere with carpet that is probably older or dirtier than most abandoned homes. 6) My biggest recommendation, if you decide this is where your going get your training, do NOT pay up front in full. Pay upon completion, otherwise you will kick yourself and allow the owner to have you right where he wants you. On your knees. 7) My schedule to get access to an airplane changed everyday, it was like Groundhog Day yet with probable high winds. They are trying to increase airplane utilization and have one airplane split between 2 students. If you get morning slot you are sitting prettier than the afternoon slot. Sharing an aircraft wasn't disclosed prior... 8) You'll waste a lot of time taxiing to get fuel on the opposite side of the airport because the owner doesn't know how to do a break even analysis on putting fuel and a pump where the student ground training takes place and only has it at the maintenance hangar.

Specifically: - POOR AIRCRAFT CONDITIONS - INEXPERIENCED INSTRUCTORS - UNETHICAL BUSINESS In April, Blue River confirmed my request that my dog can fly with me as I qualify for my PPL (see attached) so I moved up to Palmer, AK from TX and setup near the airport to start intense training in June. I showed up on June 15 for my first day of training, and it's been a disturbing experience. As a brief summary: POOR AIRCRAFT CONDITIONS - I observed missing exterior screws / bolts, large dent in flap, bent aileron and non-functional shoulder / seat belts on N4714F. This plane was available to students to fly. This is being reported to the FAA. INEXPERIENCED INSTRUCTORS - My assigned instructor, LILIAN, indicated she was from TN and only 1 month into flying in AK, and she seemed to have a mini panic attack about flying with a dog. UNETHICAL BUSINESS - Now that I'm here, Blue River is saying my dog cannot fly with me (see attached). They also charged me for June 15 even though the instructor, Lilian, was too nervous to fly. I have left 2 messages with the front office staff for the owner, JAMIE, to try and resolve things but no return call. I have now wasted over a month and several thousand dollars coming to Blue River, and they are entirely avoiding returning call or addressing any of the issues. BLUE RIVER IS SIMPLY A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN. Be Safe Out There.

The walrus were spectacular and our pilot walked us out to the cliffs where we could see them popping in and out of the water rolling their giant bodies up on the beach. We had an awesome lunch listening to the big males bark at each other. This was an unbelievable experience. I really liked that my pilot was the owner of his own business. We flew back to Anchorage that evening, pretty great day, great company.

Simple. We booked a day trip, and the trip to Katmai is split in two flights - one to King Salmon and one to Katmai. Views from the flight are absolutely beautiful. Nothing quite prepares you for how amazing it is flying into Katmai. I was worried that we came too late in the season to see any bears, but we saw two in the ocean as we were landing. Incredible. Definitely expensive. But 100% worth it. Highly recommend, would do it again.

The SETUP: Grilled Sandwich Station: Here one will find burger options with choice of sweet potato or regular fries. There was a different special here in addition to the chicken tenders, veggie burgers, bacon cheeseburgers, and beyond. The Potato Bar Section: Every day I was there I could choose between a Yukon gold or sweet potato. The toppings WERE ON POINT. So many options like butter, sugar, cheese (shredded and nacho), broccoli, bacon, scallions, and the list goes on. The Question Mark Section (as I decided to name it): A section that changes every day. I saw it contain tasty looking pizzas (at least 8 varieties), Chinese food, and yummy gyros.
