Only takes cash! Has really good choices of ice cream though! I would recommend getting a snickers sundae

Was craving ice cream but from a local place nearby. This place is cash only and they do offer an ATM machine inside. You will notice young girls working here and I am assuming the owner is a italian or greek lady calling shots when a booth needs a server or cleanup etc. This is a cheap place to get diner style food and some of the burger baskets meaning burger no cheese with fries (no drink) start at $6.95 So here for ice cream - Started with a small cup of 1/2 and 1/2 maple walnut with rocky road. They go by cup on ice cream and not scoops. So a small cup they can give you 2 flavors if you want. I take advantage of this so I can try the array of favors that they do offer. The spcial flavors today was Key lime and Pistachio but they sold out. The other small cup was their homemade fruit sherbet which I chose watermelon and 1/2 coconut ice cream. So the ice creams were ok. The coconut stood out the most. The watermelon sherbet was refreshing but tad too sweet for me. I would probably go for the coconut again because it had shreds of coconut in it. Ordered the Chili Cheese Fries and for $4.95 it was a large amount very cheesey and full of chili with beans however it needed more salt to taste. I would def order this again. Tap water even with lemon still tasted "tap" so just be mindful. Service here was ok - but the girls do hustle and bustle. read more

Very good but overly friendly. I'd never been here before and glad I stopped in. I had the steakette burger with fries, and it was super tasty. However I think I threw my server for a loop, at least based in her reaction, when I said no ketchup on my burger. I was a bit overwhelmed by the attention paid to everyone. Someone would circle the seating area checking on everyone. As soon as they were done, someone else would make the circle. As soon as they were done, someone else. Goodness it was so overwhelming. I could barely get a bite in before some else asked how it was. Relax, let me enjoy it. My only negative, they are cash only. I looked around and did not see that posted anywhere. Burger was mediocre at best fry's were underwhelming staff was nice and milkshake was good but honestly very overrated for the reviews and its cash only what kind of place doesn't take card but hey if you like bland white people food, burgers that taste like they're from a school cafeteria and fry's that taste like you could buy them frozen and cook them at home this is the place for you! read more

This hidden gem has been around since 1951 and is still going strong. It has an old fashion diner vibe. There were a steady amount of customers coming and going. I ordered the shrimp basket and was pleased with the quantity and quality of food. I was too full to have the ice cream, which they are well known for. I will be back for just dessert the next time I am in the area. read more

CASH ONLY! Nowhere is this posted in the restaurant. That was annoying. Do not order the fish. It was a piece of breading with a hint of fish. Frozen fish from a bag at the grocery store is better. The green beans were the only eatable part of the meal. My bf got the liver and onions. He said it was good. I tried the cookie dough ice cream it was sad and freezer burnt. I threw it away. I felt disgusted after we ate their the bathrooms needed updating and were dirty. This is a never again place for us. read more

I'm gonna update my review from 12 years ago. Andy's Igloo is an institution and deserves 5 stars!!! Please never change, Andy's! You own a huge piece of my foodie heart. I've been coming here since I was little and they've never changed. The food is solid, ice cream is fantastic, and vibes are immaculate. The nostalgia takes you back and just reminds me of all the best parts of my childhood. Now that I've grown up, left Winter Haven, and traveled the world -- nothing hits like a root beer float from Andy's Igloo when I come back to visit. Even visitors I bring agree that Andy's is a treasure; my friend said the Pineapple Milkshake here is the BEST milkshake he's ever had. I didn't even know they had that on their menu, but I'm glad to see that even non-locals can recognize the power Andy's holds. Service is always fantastic! The waitresses are always the sweetest and friendliest people. I love how the ice cream window opens late (11p). They are still cash only; you can use their ATM if you forget your money. 100/10 -- no notes. read more

I'll do quick highlights first. Cons: -Cash only (no signage or notice) -Bland fries -Poor observable treatment of staff by management Pros: -Very Attentive staff -Great chicken wings -Awesome sundae/milkshakes - Very Affordable -ATM w/ $2 charge ------ I arrived here around 7pm on a Saturday with my 2 sons after a FULL day at Legoland. When arriving, I noticed the parking lot was pretty full. Once inside, we were told we could sit anyway and chose a booth at the front. A waitress came and took our drink order and returned swiftly with drinks. They have menus on the table. They do not have a kids menu but have kid friendly items such as hot dogs, chicken nuggets, chicken tenders, and burgers. I ordered kids food about 7:09pm. One got a hamburger basket and the other got a hot dog basket; the basket comes with fries and coleslaw but they didn't get the coleslaw. I ordered my food at 7:13pm. I got the chicken basket with double fries (vs coleslaw) and hushpuppies. I originally wanted a fish and shrimp combo but that's not one they already have. By the time I ordered my food, teamwork and attentiveness be effectively demonstrated by staff. While looking over the menu, there were 3 different people that came over to ask if I had ordered or if I was ready to order. In my opinion, this is a pro and con. I dislike it, in a way, because I don't have a designated person, which is nice to have. Around 7:25pm, another female staff asked we had ordered and I said yes. I asked for a sweet tea and it was brought to me promptly. I think this person was the owner or manager as I observed them assigning tasks and having a leadership role during my time there. The kids food came at 7:27pm and they enjoyed it, as expected. While waiting for my food, I observed some tension between kitchen staff and the female owner/manager several times. I heard one kitchen staff say "I am doing... (xyz) why are you yelling at me". Around 7:37pm, i let someone know I was still waiting for my food. Then I heard the owner/manager fussing the kitchen staff about my food and I honestly felt bad :( I received my food at 7:39pm. It was very hot. The fries were very plain as lacked seasonings, including even salt. I did ask if they had seasonings available (other than salt/pepper) and was told there wasn't. I added salt but it barely helped. The hushpuppies were average, in my opinion. The chicken wings, however, were SPECTACULAR! I haven't had fried chicken in a wild and it did NOT disappoint ! It was fried perfectly with an amazing crispy and it was seasoned well. I ordered sundaes for my kids at 8:09pm. One got a peanut butter one and the other got a marshmallow one. The server asked if they wanted whip cream and nuts. One said they wanted whip cream and the other wanted both. They arrived around 8:13pm with whip cream and sprinkles (no nuts). My kid brought it to the attention of the server when he came to check in. The server offered to make him another one, but I told the server it was no need because he was almost done and didn't need another sundae. At 8:42pm, I ordered myself a regular sized strawberry and blueberry Milkshake. I needed to wait until my food digested because I was stuffed! I didn't even eat all my fries. My shake promptly arrived at 8:45pm. It did not disappoint. I took it to go. After eating, you must pay at the register. The checks are handwritten with the price, like typical diners). Unfortunately, that is when I found out that they ONLY accept cash or checks. There was no conspicuous signage on the door/entrance that indicated that. There is an ATM on site for customer use. It does have a $2 charged. Since there were 4-5 different servers that assisted me during my visit, I inquired with one server how does the tip work. I was told that all the tips go on a "pot" for them all to share, which is understandable and makes sense due to the fact they aren't necessarily assigned tables and serve all the customers. My only thought/concern was how it works for those employees whose shift ended and they left... Overall, it was a positive experience. The food was affordable. My only complaints were the unseasoned fries and the way the owner/manager talked to the staff... it was horrible. The kitchen isn't a closed off area, so you can see and hear in the kitchen. I will note that she (owner/manager) was very nice and friendly to myself and all the other customers. read more

Important to note: this restaurant is cash only. Visited again today. It was totally full when we got there today a bit after noon. We sat at the bar until a booth opened up. My husband had the large sized fried shrimp basket (comes with 10 shrimp, fries, Cole slaw, and hush puppies). I got the super burger with fries. The burger was delicious and the crinkle fries were hot and fresh from the fryer. The shrimp was perfect. The service was friendly and excellent. We had some ice cream for dessert. The rocky road was great. The moose tracks was wonderful--lots of Denali fudge ribbons through it. So glad we came back. read more

I grew up going to Andy's. I'm 53 now, and the did still brings me back to easier times, but the owner leaves a little to be desired. She's very gruff and harsh. That part is definitely not part of the old-time vibe. I still go for the food when I'm back in town, but not the atmosphere that the owner provides. Don't let the name fool you, this is an extremely affordable restaurant. It has the feel of a diner from days gone by. There's a walk up window not a drive through and you can order the full menu. I got the open faced roast beef sandwich. It was so big I ate on it for 3 meals. Bread, homemade mashed potatoes, roast beef and gravy, bread, more potatoes, more roast beef and gravy topped with another piece of bread. By far the best I've had. I would tip my hat to the chef, but I'm not wearing one. They have a laundry list of ice cream treats and desserts, which I can't comment on because I was too full to try them. read more

We saw a feature on PBS about cool places in Florida, and this was the first one featured. Since it was only 55 minutes away we met a friend for lunch to try it out, and it did not disappoint. We were briefed in advance about the cash only policy so made sure to have some handy, but candidly the prices are very reasonable so it doesn't require a lot. Even with Wings for an appetizer (amazing BTW) and all of us having ice cream it came to $60 total with tax and tip. A large burget basket with fries and cole slaw was all of $8.45. The service is super fast and tables turn quickly, so even on a busy day we were seated instantly and the menus are already on the table so we ordered in 5 minutes. They have constant people coming to the table asking if everything is going okay, and refilling our drinks. The Wings (order of 8, but they gave us 10) are just delicious. I haven't had the style since I was a kid up north, so it was a real throwback. The burger was great, and I loved the krinkle cut fries, and also appreciated they had little or no salt. Thank you! Soft serve ice cream in a waffle cone was gigantic, and I'm still full 3 hours later. We will be coming back again one day to try other items on the menu. read more

The nice girl at the window is pleasant and sweet who grew up in FL she was sympathetic to the fact that we were not able to handle the heat and humidity and served us some good ice cream and milkshake. We had a banana ice cream cone and fruit salad milkshake. It's made with 2% fat milk and it was very good. Both cost a total of $8 and they only accept cash. Only thing ... there is nowhere to eat the ice cream but in your car if it's hot and you need the AC so you will just be eating it in the parking lot. Or just walk around and enjoy. They have been around since the 1950's! Tasty burgers and real milkshakes. The prices were reasonable. The onion rings were very crispy- perfection. They have a walk up window for orders as well. The interior is definitely a throwback to the 1950s but not in an artificially created way. Our waitress and the manager were so welcoming. The staff takes pride in service and good food. Made a quick stop at Andy's in Winter Haven. Love the old skool street sign. We seen it and thought we can't go by and not at least try the milk shakes. There is ample parking surrounding the building and you have the option to dine in or order at the window to go which is what we did. The gal at the window was welcoming and happily took our short order. My husband got the banana milkshake and I, strawberry. The smalls come in red solo cups. So it was a good 18 ounces. Anyways, it was delicious. My husband claims it was the best banana milkshake he's ever had. The strawberry was perfect consistency with small pieces of real strawberry inside. I saved some for after dinner dessert so I put in in the freezer when I got home and when I went back to it, it was a nice ice cream texture, still with awesome taste. The menu has lots of food options at great reasonable prices, including breakfast sandwiches. Looking forward to going back to try the food. We've stayed in this general vicinity before, but never knew this existed. We wound up going here on our last night. You can't miss Andy's Igloo because it looks so nostalgic. You can check out their menu online, but what you'll find is home cooking and i frills food, plus homemade ice cream. Prices are beyond reasonable, so reasonable you almost think it may be a joke, but alas, it's not a joke. Beware, they only accept cash, so hit the ATM or the bank prior to stopping here. Service was good. We had several younger women ask us if we've been helped or if we needed anything. I ordered a single burger with fries, my husband ordered a double, and my kiddo got the Mac and cheese. First let me preface you with this place is full of nostalgic charm. Our meals came out quickly and hot. My burger was fine. My husband says his was good too. My kiddo loved the mac and cheese and we all left room for dessert. I got their moose tracks ice cream was sweet and frosty and chunks of goodness. My kiddo got a chocolate ice cream. All in all, I think it's worth a stop, support local, and feel like you've been transported back in time. I bookmarked this restaurant after seeing an article about it in Only in Your State. They are an old fashioned hamburger and milkshake and ice cream restaurant that has been in business since 1951. I love a nostalgic restaurant so I noted it in case I was in the area. A couple of months later it turns out I was less than a mile away and in need of lunch. I headed over and even though it didn't look like much from the outside I had seen pictures of the cute interior and had planned on eating inside. I opened the door to find a heavy set woman sitting at a table puffing away on a cigarette. Smoking was banned at indoor restaurants in Florida in 2003. The lady tried to hide her ciggy as she told me they were closed for indoor dining. You might have locked the door. Grossed out I left and deleted them from my bookmarks. Maybe the health department would be interested in knowing that they are smoking in the dining room. Yuck! Andy's Igloo definitely left me cold. Coming here was a waste of time. read more

We were driving through Winter Haven going from Orlando to Fort Myers a little late in the night and I was happy to find a random drive in restaurant that was still open. It's right on the corner of 17 and Ave G. I almost didn't notice it from how dark it was outside but I did notice a bunch of cars parked outside so I knew it had to be good! They have a window outside where you can order food, and a separate window to the right of the building to order desserts and shakes. For ice cream it looked like they had a wide variety of different flavors to choose from. I got the 8 wings basket which came with crinkle cut fries and slaw. My husband got a hotdog with cheese, as a basket also with fries and slaw. He asked for fries to be with cheese and boy it was SMOTHERED! (See pic.) We also got a single corn dog and a cup of their orange sherbet. We got drinks and the orange sherbet first. Sherbet was SUPER syrupy. Lots of flavor but definitely packs a punch. We added water to it eventually lol The food itself was pretty darn good! Wings were made extra crispy like I asked. Came with a big size blue cheese (or ranch if you prefer). The wings were thick and meaty. The corn dog was a bit overdone and a little hard, definitely enough for the outside to crack. The hotdog was good! Tasted chargrilled and was scored for some extra crisp. My husband asked for the hotdog with cheese so it had a cheese slice wrapped around it instead of the cheese sauce that was on the fries. We were very happy with the food. Only thing I wasn't very happy with was the inside and the service. I used the restroom and had to walk through the dining room, both the dining room and restrooms were filthy. The dining room reeked of urine and didn't look like it'd been swept all week. The bathroom was just not kept clean whatsoever. Ground was wet and toilet paper and paper towels everywhere. An employee came into the bathroom at the same time as me and saw me as a customer and didn't care to pick anything up or clean it, even if it was just picking up a few things off the floor. Service was fine when we were ordering. The employee was nice and helpful. Our food was ready about 10 mins before we received it. We were the only people there.. I saw the boxes for our order sitting on the counter for at least 10 mins while all of the employees (all very young) were standing in the dessert making area, talking and using their vapes inside. A couple employees passed by our food and ignored it. I stood at the window to ask if it was our food before I just assumed.. and I was ignored by 2 employees, only to find out it certainly was our food. Idk what else I expected when the place is run by what looks like teenagers with possibly no manager on duty. Anyway, I'll still come to get takeout if I pass through late. First time here. We went for ice cream. We were going to order outside but decided to sit inside since prices were not clearly displayed and it was a bit confusing speaking with the person at the window (didn't have chocolate hard ice cream or peanut butter) and him trying to explain all the different prices (why isn't it listed?). Inside was noisy. Some of the decor was cute but after spending $11 for two large (which really did not look large) hot fudge sundaes I can say I was not impressed. They served them in a plastic cup (we ate inside!). There were plaques saying they were voted #1 for ice cream but it isn't store made (???). Andy's Igloo was very disappointing for us, sadly. We just stopped in for ice cream and had really bad luck I guess because it felt like they were out of everything. We had one waitress who was super brusque and unhelpful and a second who was kind of hovering around who was bubbly and helpful. There was barely anyone there yet it felt like it took ages for us between visits from the grumpy waitress. I got the brownie sundae - which was good but I was surprised that the brownies were store-bought cosmic brownies, not real brownies. I've never had a sundae in a restaurant that had plastic wrapped brownies in it... The portion was huge & ice cream decent. The two other people with me had to try their orders twice before they actually had the requested items. They were out of multiple things so they each settled for their second choices. They said their ice cream was ok - one was disappointed the hot fudge sundae (her second choice - first was actually ice cream) was soft serve, not real ice cream.
