It was great taking a trip down memory lane and grabbing a bite to eat at Andy's Igloo. My wife and I wanted to go on a drive to get out of the house and grab some dinner. So I thought what a perfect place to do that. When we approached the window to order our food we were immediately welcomed and told they were cash only. Since neither of us had any cash on us we were going to go grab some and come back. Before we were able to leave, the person working the window made a suggestion on where we could get cash from a fee-free ATM and said we could order our food and it would be ready when we got back. Really appreciate her doing that. I wanted to order everything but I settled for the ham steak with two sides ($6.75). As a lover of ham, I had to get this. I was intrigued as I had never heard of ham steak. Well, it is literally a slice of ham cooked on a flat top. It was very simple, yet very satisfying. For my sides, I went with the side salad and french fries. The salad was half lettuce and half tomatoes, with a dash of shredded carrots, and my choice of the Italian dressing. The french fries were unsalted or maybe just very lightly salted. Salt packs and ketchup were included, so I think I actually appreciated the salt situation. My wife went with the Steakette basket ($5.65). She said it was a solid burger but nothing special. We are still not sure what Steakette is, versus a regular hamburger. For her side, she went with onion rings (+$0.90). And for the real reason, we were here!!! ICE CREAM. So it has probably been 20 years since I had been here, but I always remember getting a butterscotch milkshake. Since I am a creature of habit, I almost ordered one. Turning over the dessert menu must have changed my life though. When I saw the specialty flavors section, my eyes were drawn to "Hazelnut". This Hazelnut ice cream is chocolate ice cream filled with hazelnut and cookie fudge. It was to die for. My wife ordered the "Butterscotch Bomb". The Butterscotch bomb consisted of vanilla ice cream loaded with butterscotch, brownies, heath bars, cookies, and peanut butter cups. She loved it and said every bite was a different experience. We are very grateful for Andy's Igloo being open during this challenging time. They did an excellent job of doing their part to make customers feel safe and stopping the spread. Employees had on masks and there was a plastic barrier at the window. The ground was marked off at six-foot intervals, some customers paid attention and others were oblivious. I read another person's review and they used the word "underwhelming," and I agree. GREAT PRICES and FRIENDLY EMPLOYEES, though. The food just wasn't that great. The food was okay, not really impressive. It could be because we didn't eat the right things? We got the salad and steak. Salad was alright - very simple. Steak - huge portion for the price but no flavor/seasoning. We also got the chocolate dipped cones, which was alright. The ice cream didn't seem very cold because the chocolate wasn't very hard and the ice cream was dripping like crazy. It would have been better to have gotten it at Dairy Queen. read more

Out for a drive today and we came across Andy's Igloo and wow the service I think every waitress and waiter came by the table to see if everything was ok . The food very good and even a surprise for those who like fried green tomatoes they are not on the menus but they do have them and the are really good .If your out for a drive and your by Lake Alfred stop by Andy's Igloo you won't be disappointed. Andy's Diner/ Andy's Igloo was suggested to me so many times by servers around town that I had asked for thier opinions, I had to stop in and try. My goodness I'm so glad I did as I've found another one of my staples in this town. Service was beyond wonderful, I was never left wanting. Great looking menu that I can't wait to keep trying. (Especially the ice creams!!) The fried seafood was all cooked wonderfully, nothing had a greasy feeling to it, oysters were still nice and juicy, clams had good chew, no rubber.m, the fish nuggets just hit the spot. Also very happy that they don't drown on substitution, as I'm not a bit potato eater, so I was able to get the Fisherman's platter with okra, and extra fish instead of scallops. ISSA NO FOR ME. Best part about this place was the friendly service. As for the i e cream and food with so much hype? It's a definite no. The ice cream was ehhhh the topping were ehhhhh and the best think here was French fries and ranch dressing. That should say a lot. Not worth the 20 minute drive from Legoland. Our Trip to Bonita Springs We were on our way to Bonita Springs and we needed something to eat and a rest to break up the trip, Andy's Igloo looked like my kind of place. It's been a drive-in restaurant; it still has walk-up ice cream and treats; but, now there is a full-service dining room, which due to COVID-19 was at 50% capacity; and, masks were required. We waited a while for a seat; and had a nice booth by the window. I started with a Walnut Ice-cream Milk Shake, while my wife had Sweet Tea and our Daughter had water. I ordered the Mixed Seafood Platter, which came with fried seafood (scallops, delicious fish nuggets, shrimp, clams, and other treats); Coleslaw, and. a huge mound of fresh fried crinkle cut potatoes! My wife had the Fried Chicken Platter, which she raved about. And, our daughter had a Hot Dog Platter. Everything was cooked to order, so it took some time; but tasted great. The restaurant is cash or check only, so we came up surprised they did not accept credit cards. Luckily between me and our daughter we had just enough to cover the check, plus tip! This would have been 5-stars as there is no excuse for not taking plastic payment; or even payment in an app. The restaurant is conveniently local on the main thoroughfare; but, parking can be problematic. We had liver and onions the flavor was good just a little over cooked. Fried scallops the same. Next time we will get strawberries on the side for our pancakes and French toast so they won't be soggy. I think the string beans were canned. read more

Unfortunately Andy's was not what I expected. I ordered a small shrimp basket and it turned out to be store bought shrimp. The plus was that it came with crinkle fries and plenty of them. I ordered an orange sherbet for dessert, but it was more like a sorbet with excess artificial taste and coloring. I guess it is a truly local appreciation. The decor is great though with plenty of vintage signs and music from the 50's and 60's to add to vibe. read more

If you want to be driven crazy by over service come here. The wait staff covers the whole restaurant. So you get them coming around every minute or so asking the same thing. You do not have time to even read the menu without " ready to order?" I had the clam basket which was supposed to come with coleslaw,roll,fries. I got a basket of fries with the clams dumped on top,and a container of sauce and The bun. The bun was flat and dry. I had to ask for silverware,butter,catsup,coleslaw. Very disappointing. Went to this place because of reviews and it's been around since 1951. The hamburger and fish & chips were very mediocre. THEY ARE CASH ONLY. There are no signs anywhere to indicate this, and the waitress never mentioned it. The ATM was out of service. We had to drive to an ATM to get cash and come back to pay. The prices here were amazing but the portions were small. However I'd prefer that instead of having a huge portion and leftovers. Also it left room for ice cream which was good! The seafood was really good too. Recommend the scallops! read more

Nice place! Fun visit on a lazy Saturday afternoon! Stopped by for lunch - seat yourself and you're ready to go. Great selection of sandwiches, baskets, snacks. We had a burger basket and a chicken salad sandwich. Sandwich was HUGE and tasty, served with chips and a pickle. Burger was quite small (there are upgraded options - he chose the small one - about the size of a regular fast food burger), but very good he said. Also got corn nuggets - I usually love these, but they were a bit too bready and not as corny too full for ice cream this trip, but we'll be back for that sometime soon!! Came in and got lunch with a coworker. I had the special with turkey and stuffing, it was really tasty! She had a burger with fried zucchini and the fried zucchini was delicious. I had a side salad that was pretty big as well. We tried the shakes, I had cookies and cream and she had Reese's. They were both really good. The service was excellent, someone was constantly checking in on us. The only downside is it's cash only and I didn't know, but they do have an ATM on site. Overall this place has a great mom and pop "family" feel to it with great prices and service. Definitely stop in if you're in the area. read more

Start off by saying we drove by here every year when going to Orlando and it's always packed. We stopped in December 2021 and tired the ice cream on a Sunday restaurant was closed so we knew we wanted to come back for the restaurant! Came through tonight vet busy but owner was visible and very social. Loved the atmosphere, waitress attentive and stopping by lots to ask if we needed anything. Food fresh and delicious and cooked to order. Banana Split was huge and between the 3 of us we couldn't finish it. Besides the food being delicious the prices are the best around!!! I noticed some reviews complaining about no debt card/credit card. It's CASH only but they told us upfront and have an ATM! To the owner don't change a thing! This is not a burger bar or a trendy gourmet burger place, it's a solid down home diner with excellent, attentive, friendly service. I had the half pound burger with the works and a salad instead of fries because a salad would negate the naughtiness of the burger right? The burger was everything you want in-a-so-good but bad for you burger. Meaty, messy, tasty with nothing weird that would distract from the beefy experience. The burger came with fries that I didn't ask for and wasn't charged, but now I know my instincts were correct - the julienned fries were freshly made but not crispy and bland. The salad with ham and cheese was good but would be a lot better without the processed cheese. The dessert of a sugar free (sugar free makes it ok, right?) banana split was great taking me back to mom and pop DQs of the past. I love this place because everything about it says family. The staff is always nice and smiling the food is great also. They give you the biggest scoops of ice cream here and it's so so good. Today I had a coconut ice cream and my son had a lime sorbet and man I want his sorbet. The young lady at the window told me to try the burger so I did. In a one month visit, we enjoyed four meals at Andy's. The restaurant was frequented by many, the service was very good, and the food was quite tasty. HEADS UP: CASH ONLY! It didn't say it on the door, there were no signs, so we didn't find out until we tried to pay. They have an ATM, but it charges a $2.00 fee. The food wasn't bad, the prices weren't either, but the portion sizes were terrible. My husband only got one piece of fish with his fish dinner, and I only got 5 shrimp with my shrimp dinner. It's like they try to skimp on the meat and replace it with fries or hushpuppies. The name is a little bit misleading as well, because I don't understand how this place is a "drive-in." When I think of drive ins, I think of being served in your car, not walking up to a window and ordering. Maybe it used to be an actual drive in and they made it a restaurant? Came here for dinner and dessert. We had the steakette burger, cheeseburger, fish nuggets and grilled tilapia. Baskets come with fries, coleslaw and hush puppies. The dinner entrees come with a salad, veggie and bread. I got the tossed salad, corn and hush puppies. The burgers and all of the fried items were good. The tilapia was ok. The hush puppies were hard and just ok. The ice cream is the main appeal of this spot. Scoops are big and prices are very reasonable ($2-$2 for various sizes). We got a small cone and that had two scoops on it. We tried the mint cup, butter pecan and vanilla soft serve. All were decent. Large parking lot attached. It was very busy even on a late weekday evening. Service is good. We had a new server so it was a bit off for us but the other servers seem nice and very on top of things. I love Andy's. It is a Winter Haven institution. Recently my job changed and I'm now in Winter Haven every week so I'm at Andy's almost every week as well. The inside has a counter with 1950's style stools, tables, booths, and wood paneling through out. If it isn't busy you can seat yourself. On busy days they will seat you, but I've never had to wait very long. The servers don't have assigned sections which is actually good for the most part because you get better and faster service because everyone checks on you. The bbq sandwich is decent. I really like the hamburgers. The fries are cooked fresh to order. My Aunt and Uncle frequently meet me for lunch here and they are big fans of the corn dog and chili dogs. They like to get the pot roast dinner to share. I recently tried the chopped steak and with the side of gravy it was pretty good too. The best part of Andy's is the ice cream. They have a ton of flavors including a garbage can which is awesome even though it sounds terrible. It has all the candy bars in it. I love their milkshakes too. You can get your food or ice cream at a take out window outside if you don't have time to sit down. The service is super friendly. The food is classic comfort food and the ice cream is incredible. Im local and go here with my wife on a regular basis. The staff there are very attentive and work very hard to serve you. I love the hamburgers and ice tea. Their ice cream selection is second to none and tastes amazing. Im always happy with the 50's-60's dinner feel and classy music playing in the background. Two visits and two wins. Window service is a little slow, and maybe I am a bit slow myself, but I can never figure out what windows to go to. Food on the other hand is freaking awesome. I LOVE peanut butter milkshakes and theirs are hands down the best I have had in Fl. Right up there with Taylors in Loomis, Ca. My order was taking a bit, and while I was watching through the window it was just sitting there waiting to be claimed, but they never got me. It took me knocking on the window, and asking after it, for it to end up in my hands. That was the first visit, and the food was good enough for me to go back for a second.
