Left a voicemail and Tammy called back and an appointment was arranged. Was quoted a fixed rate but when the job was done they added an extra "repair" charge that was not mentioned on the call. I've had backflow tests by different companies in the past couple years and none of them added an extra charge. I guess there's a reason they're the cheapest in town.

At the end of the month I received a warning letter from the city saying my water would be turned off. I contacted the lady by text to let her know. She assured me that she would call the city and let them know that the repair was scheduled to be completed. A few days before the end of the month, I called the city to confirm that my test passed. Service still wasn't done. I called the lady multiple times but she wouldn't respond by text. Part of the service included digging out the dirt from the box. I dug out the box myself and let her know that the box had been cleared when I first confirmed the repair. All that was needed was a washer. My son witnessed a guy come back out but he wasn't there long enough for my son to get me. He was in and out pretty quickly. That afternoon I couldn't start my sprinklers. I spent about an hour trying to figure it out on my own. I called the lady multiple times but she would only answer by text. This was during business hours. The guy hadn't turned the water back on before he left. It took me using a hammer to tap it open. I was charged $97 for the back flow test, a washer, and I would assume full price for a second test, as well as an hour of my time trying to turn my water back on because the employee failed to do so. Maybe that's going rate? I feel like I might have been over charged, especially with the late notice and having to figure out how to muscle my water back on, after paying the company to do a service. The company I used before charged me a one time backflow fee, replaced the washer for a repair, with no charge, all in the same visit. I was able to call the water company to get the contact information for the previous company. I will use them moving forward. Just very unprofessional. I would not recommend Salem Backflow.

The decided to clear out a different part of the line such that water was barely flowing. Upon having to come out the second time (6 days later) when the house was backed up again, they found where the real issue was - exactly where I said it would be. They didn't have the right camera equipment to diagnose the issue and took the easiest approach to maximize their hourly rate. Their initial receipt said "30 day warranty" on the work. However, they charged full price to come out the second time. $550 for the first time, $750 for the second visit when he *actually* fixed the problem by popping the toilet. They should have either done the job correctly the first time, or honored their work warranty (which included diagnosing where an issue is) and reduced how much the second charge was. Just expect that they will do poor work the first time they come out to get your system in minimum working order just so they can bang you again shortly after. I would hire a different plumber that knows how to do the job correctly.

The technician…read moretold my wife that the toilet we had was for a pressurized system and told her about how dangerous they were and how they can hurt people. We have used this system for 5 years. He said that he could replace the entire toilet, so she tried to get a hold of me, but I was at work and not available. She felt pressured to make a decision so she told him to just replace the toilet. They then charged her almost $1100 to replace the toilet. The new toilet runs about $285 at Home Depot. Of course, later that same evening we got a quote back from another reputable company, saying their cost for putting in a new toilet was $375, which did not include the price of the toilet, which we had originally planned to supply for whomever did the work. I called and talked to a manager about the astronomical costs and they provided me with the following information/excuse for their costs. The breakdown of how they charge is as follows: 40% for parts and labor 10% for pure profit 50% goes towards operating costs such as their fleet of vehicles and advertising. So just remember that when your quote comes back to you, 50% of your quote is just to pay for their vehicles and their advertising cost and has nothing to do with the cost of actually doing work for you. I wish I would've seen the reviews about them price gouging prior to even calling them. Because I called them to question their price gouging and scare tactics, they did refund us $54.00, as if that makes up for the several hundreds of dollars they overcharged us.

This year (2022) I went with NW Backflow again because they make it convenient and and I expected things to go without a hitch as did the 2021 test and passing results. Unfortunately, this year did not go so well. I came home to see that my beautiful Rhododendron tree had been butchered and hacked by the test technician (Rachel the owner) unnecessarily! I was fuming. I got into contact with Rachel and I was told that the valve box was inaccessible (which is not true) and the at the tree limbs were "poking at her hair" so she took it upon her self to butcher the tree that is located adjacent to the valve box claiming she couldn't conduct the test without doing so and that the fine print in her "terms of agreement" granted her the right to do so with impunity. Never once did she apologize, empathize and or make it right by offering to refund the $45.00 test fee which really floored me the most. Her cavalier and callous attitude will be the reason I will NEVER use NW Backflow again and I vehemently oppose anyone else using them either. There's other options out there people and I suggest you give your hard- earned money to a better company that cares about its clients.
