A breathing test was ordered (terrific tech at SNMH) and the test administered. Days later the office manager sent a text that they had not received the results of the test. I called the office and spoke with the manager. She asked me to call the Pulmonary Function Lab and have them transmit the result of my test to the doctor's office. I asked the manager isn't that more a function of your office rather than my effort. She snapped back, "Calm down"! I replied, "I am calm", to which she responded "You're attacking me". I replied, "I am not attacking you. I said I am the patient and the customer with a question but she again said that I should make the call to Pulmonology. I reminded the manager that I was the patient who asked her, on our initial phone contact, if she was in a hurry when she answered the phone, the impression being that she didn't have time for my call, brusque in manner, bordering on rude. I reiterated my first question regarding function. She then began to search for the report from Pulmonology, found it after making her point that she had not received it and tacitly had to back down from her comment that I was attacking her. Dr. Lace has a pleasant manner as does his nurse assistant, however the office manager defeats what would be an otherwise smoothly running office. Referrals were not completed and lab test instructions never sent. Following an injury, I had to seek treatment from another medical facility because no one was calling me from Dignity Health to address my issue...their centralized messaging system had never contacted the Grass Valley office. The final annoyance concerned an annual physical that was rescheduled three times. over a period of many months. I was told the doctor was not going to be in the office but when I stopped by on the day of my appointment, not only was he there but I was told I had been "bumped"! Is this anyway to treat a patient? Luckily there is another local medical group which runs smoothly and efficiently - we now are happily their patients but still waiting for all our requested records to be transferred from Dignity Health!

She is the kind of doctor who says what she thinks, but that is a benefit for patients because she makes a diagnosis based on symptoms and history AND THEN CONFIRMS the diagnosis with various tests. I believe that she takes me seriously and cares about me, as a person, not just a patient. If I need to see her I usually get added to that same day's appointments. She doesn't have patience with incompetence in other professionals or their staff if they give her, or me, the run around and if she is your doc, you WILL get in for tests and other referrals, quickly. The comments about her staff are not my experience, they have pleasant and helpful attitudes but, they get tired and frustrated too. Once, I had a good convo with her staff, they said that she can be demanding (something I appreciate) but they could not learn as much working anywhere else. Quick example, I mentioned that I had unusual symptoms, in detail, and where some would make light if it, Doctor Lernhardt wasted no time in sending me in for a brain scan. I have two tumors in my head, inoperable as of now, but every other doctor I have seen about this are surprised that the tumors were found as they would not have thought to check in this particular area! I now see doctors at UC Davis Oncology, thanks to the swift and confident actions of Dr Lernhardt. Her brash and quick attitude is understandable, to me, when I see how hard she advocates for her patients. If you want to be treated with insincere platitudes, go somewhere else, but if you want a doctor you can trust, in my opinion, Dr. Lernhardt is the best!
