Abba and Sons Custom Millworks - Portable saw mill in action

I had about 100 trees cut last year and the logs were stacked all along my front yard. I searched…read morefor several months to find a portable sawmill operator to cut the logs to dimensional lumber, but could not find a reliable crew (someone who would return calls or actually come on site to give me an estimate). Finally in late September I found Abba and Sons. Gene and his crew were extremely responsive and came out to my property to give me an estimate, which I thought was very fair. To stay on budget, we agreed to have his crew cut as much lumber as they could over 4 weeks. Over that time they were able to create two stickered stacks of hardwoods, mainly hickory, maple and oak and one with softwoods, mostly poplar and pine. We got dozens of 6x6 and 4x4 posts 12-15 feet long, as well as tons of 2 1/4 inch slabs for future flooring projects. There were also dozens of character slabs which I'll dry and figure out how to use - perhaps some nice tables and benches. Gene and his crew work very hard and do not cut corners. They made sure everything went smoothly with minimal disruption to my property. If you have some logs on your property that might be useful as lumber, please give Abba and Sons a call. You will not regret it!

After Irma, we had a neighbor's tree down in our yard, and an additional tree that I had some fears…read moreof it coming down because it was so top heavy. John came out really quickly and gave me an estimate, and he was very professional. I ended up on a waiting list as there were many more urgent trees ahead of mine (trees on houses, etc). It took just over a week to get mine worked in (9/12 was the quote date, and the work was done this morning - 9/21), and he showed up promptly at 8am (the scheduled time). The downed tree was hanging about 15-20 feet over my vegetable garden (it was not fully on the ground), and they were extremely careful in not damaging any of my plants. I was really impressed with how much care they put into their work. There was one small mishap with a trunk coming down on my fence, but while they pulled down the next tree, someone ran to the hardware store to get a new top rail for my fence, and before they left it was back up and nobody will know that it was ever damaged. The big pine they took down was a monster (80+ feet tall), and it fell exactly where he said it would. They cut everything up in small chunks that we can easily move (we requested that we keep all the wood, as we'll use all of it for bonfires over the next year or two). The whole process took right at 2 hours (which is what he originally estimated), and I felt like it went really well. The whole crew was polite (and funny), and I'm definitely recommending him to neighbors that have trees damaged by the storm. I'll likely be bringing him back later on to take a couple more trees down that aren't a problem now, but will be at some point in the future. Definitely highly recommend. He responds quick, he was fair in pricing (maybe he's not the cheapest - although he was the least expensive of the two quotes I did get - but in some instances you really do get what you pay for) I had a couple people call me and tell me that they would quote cheaper, but they never showed up to do so. And the one guy that did show up (3 hours late) quoted almost double - see my other review on that. Thanks John! Really appreciate your work and your crew today!
