The 17,000 quote did not even cover the stump grinding or removal. I found a lessened company (also with great reviews) to do it ALL - front and back including stump grinding for $6500! On Nov 16, 2023, I contacted AKA tree service to remove two trees in my front yard and to grind out the stumps, so that I could plant new trees. AKA contractually agreed to remove the trees for $1200.00 and grind the stumps 4-6" below grade for $300.00. On November 28, 2023 the trees were removed. They did a good job on the tree removal. Also, according to the neighbors, it was fast. However, the stump grinding was a nightmare. Grinding was completed on December 9, 2023. When I removed the wood shavings, I discovered that the stump were not ground below grade at all. In fact one stump was only ground to the top of the planter, which sits about 9" above grade. The other stump was more than 13" above grade. In each case they were ground to the top of the planter. Not even below grade of the planter, let alone - actual grade. When I called AKA, I was told that AKA contracted another company to do the grinding, and they did not have the right equipment. After several inquiries, AKA expressed uncertainty on when they would be able to send someone out to do the work correctly. They also expressed uncertainty about their ability to secure the proper equipment. So, I proposed to AKA I would pay them $100.00 to settle the contract so that I can move on with someone else to avoid HOA fines, as my brick planters were dissembled by AKA and not reassembled and the yard was in disarray, while I waited for grinding to be completed. Out of concern for additional delays, I informed AKA that I had quotes from other stump grinders and one provided a guarantee that they could grind the stumps at least 12" below grade. On, December 18, 2023 I paid another company who did the grinding, achieving 20" and 18" below grade for each stump, respectively. AKA said that they would bill me for $150.00 for the grinding work that they did, instead of $300.00. Although, I was willing to pay $100.00 make it all go away -- despite AKA not meeting their contractual obligation, $150.00 was unacceptable. However, I paid the bill out of frustration and the need to move on. To add insult to injury, I remitted payment for the tree removal part of the bill ($1200.00), on December 1. However, the $150.00 - adjusted invoice did not reflect my earlier payment of $1200.00, which required additional back and forth. Altogether, the experience was frustrated with delays, poor quality for the grinding, and back and forth communications. I am providing a two star, because the tree removal part was done satisfactorily, but the overall experience destroyed the good feelings about the tree removal. read more

We have been looking for a quality and competent tree removal service to take down several problem trees around our home before the next big storm does. A couple of those trees that blocked the sun from warming our in-ground pool. We were amazed at the range in prices from the different vendors that we had come out for estimates. Finally we had Jake from AKA visit us and after reviewing our needs he came up with a reasonable quote and gave us credit for a discount coupon from a local newspaper. On "tree removal day" the crews arrived promptly on time. They went about their prep work competently and with care for the rest of our plants and home. The tree workers operated safely and efficiently. One of the trees was a really old tulip poplar just six feet from our rear deck. It had four large trees rising from the base each about 100 feet tall. There were splits near the base and evidence that rot was growing in it. A friend of ours who is an arborist suggested we would be wise to remove it before it went down on its own. The AKA guys successfully got it all down in just a couple hours - nothing damaged. We treated the guys to pastries and lunch as well as a cooler full of bottled water. Except for a blown hydraulic line on the log lifter tractor all went well. They fixed the hydraulic line and continued through to completion by late afternoon. They cleaned up the site and left us the oak logs to be recycled into firewood for next winter. We were pleased with AKA and would not hesitate to use them again. read more

Absolutely terrible! Their "foreman" really didn't know what he was doing and they obliterated our yard and we had to call and bother them nonstop to come reseed. They did not have enough boards and thought it was ok to completely tear up our yard and make it a mud pit. They also tore up our SOD, not just grass and did not replace it. I would not recommend this company. After they leave everything a mess, they make it difficult to get in contact with them. Then when they finally did send someone, they sent one poor fellow to grate and reseed our large yard. My husband literally went out to help him because it was that sorry. Horrible!!!! This company is not realible & ultimately gave my family disappointment. They left behind a complete mess not just in front of our property but towards the neighbor's also. They lied about the quote and final price for which services would be included the job figure. That type of handling is unacceptable. My family was quoted & rescheduled the day of our intitial job by Mr. Lee Smith. We had to push everything out an additional week. He even had to ask again how much he had quoted for the job. Are you kidding you're that disorganized that you don't have your estimate documentation?!?! This operation was so scattered & unprofessional. After Mr. Lee Smith assured us he'd be present at our house by 8am the next day. He was no where to be seen the entire time until the crew left on the project day. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt but that was sooooo wrong. Only workers were appeared there late with one man that seemed to be the project manager, who had a very rude aapproach to my entire family. We would ask him questions to which he would be as curt & dismissive as possible. He even stated that he & his crew would be taking all the wood to sell but they'd need to store it in the front of our house over night....WTH!?! So, you re making money on the project to cut down trees & now you're using our property as a storage station to sell the trees later. Mr. Lee Smith wasn't even aware of this apparently. Which he should've been running a fighter ship. He even lied or completely forgot that he said the stump in our front yard would be removed. He charged us an extra $200 only to say on the day of the job there was no such promise. Then why would I agree to an extra $200??!?!? Totally ridiculous!! So, he kept saying we don't even have the equipment for that. WTH?!? So, stressful & chaotic!! Once the majority of requested tasks got wrapped up. They demanded their payment & packed up quickly not thoroughly explain after care & satisfaction questions. We dealt with neighbors & the local authority complaining about the wood chips & waste set aside on the property. It was urgent that they get back to clean it up properly but they never did. Numerous calls were made only to be ignored & set with a view of well "I've collected my money so that's done." That's terrible customer service & deplorable way to market. I felt so bad they treated us like fools. I want others to know that they can get much better service elsewhere. Even if paying morperformance e, you can at least get great quality work from start to finish. Instead, of lackluster performance that is skipping steps to just run off with their payout. After packing up because they were wanting to leave fast, fast, fast with crew said they will be back in the morning to pick up some woods mainly for them to resell and they just came & didn't even notify us they were there again & disappeared. So I called Mr. Lee Smith and told him about the war zone of mess & he assured my family that his crew would be out to clean it up, even stating if they udon't he would do it himself!!!! Great attitude when asked to cut a few limbs that weren't detailed on the estimate. And get this, a huge pine tree was cut down that straddled the property line with my neighbor who said "No!" initially, but later reluctantly agreed for it to cut down. When AKA's stump grinder showed up I ask him to grind two more old stumps near the big one I was paying for. They were both clearly on my neighbor's yard. They took down an additional tree that I asked to have trimmed because they could see it was dying. TREE REMOVAL, Byran gave us an estimate to remove 1 large tree, 4 small trees and grind 6 stumps. The day the guys got here, I asked if they could remove 4 Yucca shrubs and grind those stumps as well. A.K.A. I can't say enough good things about this company. We had a tree coming down on our house and it was damaging the roof and tore the gutters down. I looked them up on Yelp and called on a Sunday morning Justin came out and was very professional. No pressure but just the facts. Described the danger and allowed us to make the decision to remove the trees that had damaged our home. Within an hour he gathered a crew and they showed up and removed two hardwoods. They have all the equipment and manpower to do a quick professional job. They are licensed, bonded and verified. It wasn't cheap but I would say worth what we paid for peace of mind. I signed a work order with AKA Tree Removal on 4/1/2015 to have a problematic tree removed. I was told it would be about 2 weeks. That is now over 7 weeks ago. Around week 3, I started calling (once a week) -- it's been 4 calls now. The answering service takes my information - all I'm asking is for a callback to let us know if they'll be out soon; if they don't know when they'll be out; or that they don't want to honor the "contract" and we should find another tree removal company. Dusty Jenkins came out to give a quote. We were happy with his price to remove 3 trees and trim some others. We singed a contract for him to do the job and he said he would call to schedule a time. Days past, we finally called and he told us he would call to schedule in a few days that they were busy. 2 weeks later and still no call. So we called him to find out when they would be able to make it out. He proceeded to cuss out my husband on the phone. When my husband asked to speak to his supervisor, he claimed to be the supervisor. If he is, then this company needs to reevaluate who they put in charge and let deal with customers. AKA Tree Removal is professional, insured, and do a quality job. I have an acre of very wooded property on a 45 degree hill. An 80 ft hardwood behind the house died and had started to rot. A crane could not reach tree since located behind house. AKA carefully secured safety lines to surrounding trees and efficiently took down tree without damaging playhouse/shed located 10 to 15 feet away. Our neighbor used AKA to have some trees removed. The trees were right on the property line between our houses and some of the branches brushed against our roof while being removed. After AKA left my wife and I went outside and noticed one of the vents on our roof had been bent sideways and the cap crushed. I immediately called AKA to report the damage. No one responded, so the next day I called the salesman my neighbor had dealt with. He came out, while we were not home, and determined, from the ground "there was no way the tree removal caused the damage". When I disagreed I was told to "prove it". We continued dealing with the owner and were told that a roofing company would be coming out to fix the damage. No one ever contacted us (over 2 weeks later) even after several more messages were left on the owners voice mail. Due to bad weather, I made the repairs myself to avoid further roof damage. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY due to their lack of taking responsibility for their damage and not fulfilling their word to repair their damage!!! P.S. I am a 60 year old man that takes excellent care of my house and yard and am not trying to get a free fix as was implied by AKA. It's not about the money, it's about doing the right thing. read more
