I have had a wonderful experience with Dr. Colgan. I am 8 days post hybrid implant surgery. He extracted all remaining lower teeth and placed five implants at the same time. He was able to use one existing implant from a prior procedure. The following day, I had temporary teeth placed while waiting the 3 months for the new implants to integrate and the placement of the permanent titanium supported teeth. He works incredibly well with the lab, which I am learning is a critical part of the process. His attention to detail is incredible which I am certain has a great deal to do with his positive outcomes. I was very unsure of the post surgery discomfort thinking that it would be much tougher than my prior implant procedures but this anxiety proved to be unwarranted. Honestly, his work was no move uncomfortable than the individual implant procedures I had done in the past. His staff was professional and thorough with respect to what my role was in achieving the best possible experience. I must admit that I am a good listener and I asked questions when I was not completely clear about any aspect of the process. I would recommend Dr. Colgan and staff. read more

I am truly shocked to read such negative reviews left on this Yelp page about Dr. Colgan. I had "All- on- 4 Implant Surgery" performed in 2018 by Dr. Colgan and his staff. My experience with his office greatly exceeded my expectations. He is a talented surgeon, and I received top of the line care. If you are looking for affordable dental care, he may not be your first choice, but I went to his office today (7 years later) to discuss my prosthetic arch of my teeth and was treated as well today as I was treated seven years ago. My Vero Beach dentists, Dr. Kerry Aston & Dr. Michael Aston, at Spallone Family Dentistry, noticed screw threads coming through my upper gum in the front of my mouth. Somehow, I wasn't surprised from the slip shod work done a few years before from a North Fresno, California Dental Surgery office. (Contact me if you want details, for my Fresno peeps; this CA dental surgery was a disaster!). This was 1 September 2022. Immediately, Drs. Aston put me in touch with the premier dental implant office in Vero Beach: Surgical Arts. With a multitude of dental issues throughout my life, it's easy for me to place Dr. J. Andrew Colgan at the very apex of Dental Surgeons! Over a 15 month duration, Dr. Colgan, Miss Alexis, and his staff took care of my every need through multiple surgeries and post-care. I admit that in September of 2022, I was fairly nervous beginning this endeavor; however, by the time we finished with all procedures, Dr. Colgan and staff felt like family. This is a review for Doctor Colgan in Vero Beach, Florida. I'm giving him two out of five stars based on Yelp's descriptor of "Meh. I've experienced better. But here's the deal: after one and a half visits to Dr Colgan's office, I was left with an uneasy feeling that made me hesitant to hire him. The services I was evaluated for at his office were tooth extraction (right bottom rear molar, #31), bone graft, and then an insertion. I ended up getting a second opinion. I'm glad that I did. First, a disclaimer: I'm probably a bad client for a dentist. I am very curious and I have a lot of questions. I brought my iPad to the first appointment so I could take notes and better understand what was going to happen. Some dentists might not like to answer all of my questions, or think that I'm trying to second-guess them and all of their years expertise. Also, I asked the receptionist to print a shipping label for my girlfriend because we didn't have a printer. Those are the bad things about me you should know. The reason for my bad review is that I feel Dr Colgan was a bit aggressive in his surgical advice. Also, Doctor Colgan suggested that I be placed under sedative with an IV drip so that I wouldn't be conscious during the procedure. When I asked him why this was necessary, he told me that it was because there would be lots of little pieces of the tooth and I wouldn't want to be awake for this. Well, it's certainly easier for this doctor to do the procedure when I'm asleep and not asking questions (LOL). It also allows him to bill an extra $400 for the sedative medicine. Last week I had that tooth extracted with only topical and local anesthetic. I also had the bone graft done. It was fine and didn't hurt at all. I didn't need to be knocked out and on an IV drip. When I mentioned to the oral surgeon whom I ultimately selected that Dr Colgan wanted to put me under and on a sedative IV drip, the staff laughed and rolled their eyes. Overall, I paid about $400 to have a CT scan and initial consultation with Doctor Colgan. The additional procedures he advised (extraction and implant) would have cost an additional $3500 or so. I'm lucky to not have to worry about the cost of services. I only want the best. But if you're on a budget, or even if you're curious to get a less-aggressive approach, I suggest you try another doctor or get a second opinion. I won't mention whom I went to see instead because I don't want this to sound like an advertisement for them. Many oral surgeons will do the extraction, bone graft, and implant procedure all in one day. That's fine and sometimes it works fine. I'm definitely not a dentist and not an expert. But the way he answered my questions just didn't instill a sense of confidence in me. I just got a funny feeling and didn't feel good. And I definitely didn't feel right going under anesthesia there. I am going to have to agree with quite a few of the other reviews listed. He has no bedside manner, is rude, he is unfair and his financial practices / pressure and his moral character are of great concern. I had inquired about the fees on several occasions prior to my visit so I could be financially prepared but was blindsided when checking out by excessive additional charges of which were non-negotiable. UPDATE: I decided to get three more consultations and it turns out that I did not need the extensive work Dr. Colgan had proposed. This would have been very expensive and painful. I recently had 4 wisdom teeth extracted, considering the times we're in, where money is on the forefront of everyone's mind, I considered the pricing fair. (Not going to mention $$$ amounts because that's personal / messy / petty, you're also paying for the fact that there's a confidentiality agreement between you and doctors but ok, it's privately discussed, why you would go to the internet and display what I would argue is specifically personal info, it's weird for me, and I'm 24.) My experience was that this office/staff/ practice was just as efficient as it was quality. The staff seemed work oriented, overall, and picking that up on my consultation I could still see an effort being made for my comfort and well being as well as prioritizing my extractions . (Post OP)- Feel as though quality of life improved. I think that most times people see a number that they & others could argue is a lot get upset, and want validation for something. Anyone could slap a price on something they do and say it's worth it, Dr. Colgan and his staff are great and off of my overall experience I'd say they were worth it. I had the 4 wisdom teeth in my mouth for a few years now and they were a bother on me but only after having them removed do I realize how much I needed them gone and how much of an amazing job the Doctor did. Did a great job with the stitching, after 3 days I only had soreness in 1 area, "my problem area" I'd say and after a week, nothing. I didn't have any sort of discomfort other than the discomfort one gets when you have 4 wisdom teeth removed at once. Less tension in my head, I'm very big on hygiene so now that it's easier to clean my mouth/teeth I'm less insecure about my breath. I'm back to eating solid foods after a week. I'm used to hearing about horrible wisdom teeth experiences and I gotta say, I can't relate. My experience was such a breeze that they need to replace the term "...it was like pulling teeth" because getting them removed, recovering, following up after and getting something from them, for free, to help clean those sensitive areas in mouth more efficiently. Couldn't have asked for an easier/ more efficient/ quality experience. 10/10, but I'll settle for 5 stars Thank you to everyone at this practice read more

This guy has no bedside manner very rude . Said I had to be knock out to remove a wisdom tooth . I believe he just wanted to make and extra 375.00 . I went to another dentist only needed novocaine tooth was extracted in two minutes . By being knock out you could be at risk of not waking up . read more

I have not had recent experience with Dr Colgan was not at all satisfactory. In essence this is a practitioner who seems resentful of the fact that he has to accept dental insurance insofar as he must feel he is underpaid. He is competent as a practitioner but he is more interested than most in finding ways to add cost to whatever he does. Any questioning of same results I blowback. He said he no longer would be willing to treat me for future work. All I can say is he beat me to it. read more
