Dr. Hou is an excellent doctor. He has been treating me for my back for years. I did have to let him know at one time that his ancillary staff were making him look bad. They were not responsive or dependable. I let him know at one of my appointments the problems I was having and things have fine since then. read more

Worst doctor by far. All the 1 star reviews sums it up regarding to how he doesnt even care. He didnt even care about what i had to tell him regarding my back issues. Didnt even bother to check me out. He already decided he didnt care once he saw me. Sent me to fremont to get a $3k epidural steroid injection which didnt do anything!! No greet, not friendly and just doesnt care. He told me that im perfectly fine and then i got a second opinion from another doctor and now im going to have surgery on my back.. The worst doctor to see at this clinic. He doesn't want to go by the history of your health problems. He doesn't want to go by what past treatments have worked on me. He doesn't want to go by what past MRIs have said. He was very adamant about getting new MRIs done, even though I kept telling him that all past doctors have said that my problem doesn't show up in the MRI and even though all MRIs show the same issue. There are health problems that don't show up in the MRI, which I kept telling him, then does it mean that he will not give me treatment? Is he forcing me to get an MRI done so that his organization will make money out of it? He lied to me about the names of the two types of injections I was referring to, and said that the two types of injections I was referring to are the same thing, which is completely false. Also this doctor was running late by ~ an hour. Thus, avoid this doctor as much as possible. read more

Don't waste your time. Skilled technician, but awful doctor. Dismissive and doesn't listen to patients. In one visit, he barely glanced at the MRI report, not even the images, in coming to a mis-diagnosis. Then in another visit, he questioned why I had pain on one side when he previously treated the other -- bilateral spinal issues are very common! Most doctors will be empathetic and ask if we patients have any questions in the course of the consultation -- not Andrew Hou. This guy will speed through the appointment, then before you know it, is standing up and holding the door open for you to exit. At least he's consistent -- in every one of our visits, he offered no greeting (not even a "hello"), so it makes sense that he eagerly looked forward to me leaving. I very much appreciate that one of his injections did work well, but it was diagnosed and ordered by another doctor. Ultimately, Hou is not much of a doctor -- lacking in basic manners and empathy, even if he excels at being an adept technician. read more

​Dr. Hou is exceptional. I went into see him for the first time in Urgent Care at Golden State Orthopedics . At that time I liked him and he explained a lot of things to me and we decided on a procedure. After that I went to two different doctors with the soonest availability , I was disappointed in both of them. I went back to Hou and will never go to any other Doctor. He explains things clearly offers different solutions for your problems and at this point he has helped me tremendously . I took a day off to take my mom to see Dr. Hou today for her appointment at 8:45am. We were 5 minutes away and received a call at 8:21am from the office. The lady said, "Sorry, we have to cancel your mom's appointment today because we no longer accept Medical." I asked, "Can we pay out of pocket?" She replied, "No!" WTF!!! The worst doctor I have ever met. I went to Dr. Hou seeking diagnosis and solutions. I thought it is just a simple lumbar disc problem. After I told the nurse that I would prefer MRI instead of X-ray, the doctor spent 3 mins with me. He did not proceed with any exam. He just swiftly asked me to do PT without any further explanation. Dr. Hou was clearly not knowledgeable enough to treat me. He was also more concerned about dealing with the insurance company than trying to help me despite of the fact that I could barely sit up at the time. After leaving his office, I went to the ER where the doctor did some tests and prescribed some drugs to stabilize my pain. What made me feel worse was how indifferent and cold Dr. Hou was. We drove one hour to see him. I would have expected him to at least pretend that he cared about patients. Big mistakes! There are fabulous spine centers in the bay area like Stanford or UCSF. Dr. Hou was dismissive during my visit, telling me that maybe I should try some stretching for my injury after I told him that I had done 5 months of intensive physical therapy. I later found out he also did not properly document my symptoms during this visit. I decided to stick it out since he got an MRI approved from insurance quickly--big mistake. I tried to get an in person follow up but was told he mostly does telemedicine. I take time off work for this appointment and when the time comes the Zoom link they send keeps asking for a password they did not provide. I'm not worried as I provided my cell phone number during online check in for this exact purpose. I understand he's not going to sit around waiting but I would have expected a single attempt to contact me. By the time I get through to the office they tell me that he immediately marked me as a no show and is unavailable for the next two weeks. read more

Non responsive. Not a trait we seek in our medical experiences. We see Dr's to solicit responses and solutions. We report an ailment, seek a diagnosis, a treatment plan is suggested and agreed to, and when the treatment plan fails (nearly immediately, and we recognize this could happen), after reporting the situation to the Dr office as previously agreed to, with a request for next steps or direction to discuss the next available options multiple times/days there has been no reciprocity. We have found this apparent standard operating procedure to be frustrating at best - highly unacceptable, unproductive and wholly lacking. read more

After receiving records from my previous doctor, Dr Hou decided that he could offer me nothing more, even after he saw the MRI I had done, and just had his assistant tell me he suggested returning to my previous doctor. He never even looked at the MRI in front of me, never did an exam, never did anything to help. read more

Dr. Hou switched my 90 year old Mom to Lyrica without tapering gabapentin. He should know you don't just take someone off gabapentin and start a new medication to see if it works. She hasn't been able to sit down for 12 days and is in excruciating pain. Obviously Dr. Hou missed the part of instructions on the gabapentin that it must be weaned off. Huge fail Dr Hou! Waiting for you to call and offer your excuse. read more

I am writing this review on behalf of my 80 year old mother who is a patient of Dr. Hou. She is so excited to leave this review for him. "I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Hou. He is an expert in his field. He explains everything and truly cares about finding a solution to pain. He cares about the whole person, physically and emotionally; it's apparent in his patient bed-side manner.. He is also personable; it's really easy to talk to him. I had been experiencing excruciating lower back pain that was shooting down both legs causing weakness in my legs. He very quickly diagnosed me with inflammation and set me up for a noninvasive outpatient procedure at a surgery center. The pain subsided almost immediately. By my follow-up appointment, I was 75% pain free. Now, just 3 months after my procedure, I am completely pain free!! My pain is GONE. Dr. Hou and his staff are efficient and nice. I have never written a Yelp review for a physician before but felt compelled to based on my recent visits with Dr. Hou. He is a wonderful doctor, extremely knowledgable and patient as he responded to all of my inquiries. More often than not, doctors overbook and seemed rushed when they finally enter the exam room. This is not the case with Dr. Hou. I have seen him a few times for a variety of ailments and he always takes his time. I had an epidural with Dr. Hou several weeks ago and my neck is significantly better after that injection. He does not push for procedures that aren't necessary if he feels rest or physical therapy will help remedy the situation. Steven R read more

I have had two visits with Dr. Hou during this summer after my fall accident which hurt my neck and I started to have my arm and later leg symptoms. For both of these two visits, I had to wait for one hour and I only got less than five minutes of his time. I did not have any chance to ask him any questions before I was led out of the door and he went to his next patient. He did NO physical exam during the first visit. He did only knee jerk reflex test during the second visit when I told him of leg numbness. He did the knee tendon reflex when both of my feet are firmly on the floor. When I asked him if I need to cross one leg over another, he said no. Later from other doctors I found out my leg problem comes from my compressed spinal cord. But Dr. Hou did not even look at my MRI when I asked him if my spinal cord is ok during the second visit. read more

I used to see him at his old practice and out of the blue he left with no notice to his patients. Then I receive a letter that looked like a 6th grader made it stating he is now at his new practice. JUST LIKE THAT! No warning, no notice to patients at all. I guess he had to set up a new yelp under this new practice because his old yelp was so bad. I though he was a calm good doctor but found this to be unacceptable, unprofessional and unethical move. Thank you but yeah, no thanks. I need someone stable. read more

Besides providing a quality effective treatment plan, his approach is caring, he is easy to talk with,understanding and supportive. I was recommended to Dr. Hou by another doctor at Webster Orthopedics. He just started his practice there. I have been experiencing pain in my right arm first and later my left arm for almost a year. I had already been to physical therapy and felt relief. After completing physical therapy, my pain returned. I was given a cortisone shot. During my first appointment with Dr. Hou, he was one hour late. He scheduled a MRI for my neck. He was going on vacation and I scheduled an appointment for early October. He prescribed Meloxicam, which was minimally effective. During that month, the pain was so intense, I went back to Webster Ortho and received another cortisone shot in the other arm. The pain cleared about two weeks later, in time for my appointment with Dr. Hou. Except his office forgot to put the appointment in the system and I had to make another appointment. Dr. Hou was 45 minutes late that appointment. During my time with him, which was short, I got the feeling he was rushing me out the door. He went through the MRI with me, but didn't say much. I have a compressed disc and stressed exercise. He prescribed Meloxicam and come back if needed. I tried to ask questions, but he kept coming back to exercises. I asked for the results and a copy of the MRI, and got only results. I learned more information reading the MRI than listening to Dr. Hou. I am going to get a 2nd opinion from a doctor recommended by my spouse. Even if I get the same answers, I want to be sure it is the right answer. I don't want to get rushed out the door because the doctor is 45 minutes to an hour late meeting with his patients. I want to know if the pain will return and what are my options, neither of which Dr. Hou answered. read more
