I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Talwar. He is an expert in his field. He explains everything and truly cares about finding a solution to pain. He cares about the whole person, physically and emotionally. He is also personable and funny so, it's really easy to talk to him. He performed a two part surgery on me. I had disk replacement and then a second surgery to hold it in place. The recovery was awful BUT now I am pain free!! Really, no joke, my pain is GONE. Dr. Talwar's staff is efficient and nice. His assistant "Rachel" never returns calls and relays false information to Talwar. Dr. Talvar is highly tardy with his appointments in person as well as virtual. Average wait time in the room is 45 min to an hour. He also unabashedly promotes his network of services or doctors. He will say "oh I think you should go to this doctor here or the imaging center there"! Beware of this forcible sales tactic. He does not make informed diagnosis through MRI, he writes half hearted notes on MRI requests and the insurance either rejects it or requests him to connect with them, he and his office sit on those peer to peer consultations. The office person says "oh we give the Doctor's cell number but they don't call". If the insurance company is making a request to have peer consultation the doctor should have the responsibility to pick up the phone and make a case for the patien's MRI. He is terrible at following through. When I contacted the insurance company, they said the doctor does not return their calls for peer to peer consultations. I would advise not to see this doctor if you are in pain. It's best to find a professional who can focus on your care. read more

I have to say that without the knowledge and Dr. Talwar's surgical precision I know I would be dead or paralyzed. It started in late September I had major pain that I had never felt before. To make a very long story short, I went to San Ramon hospital emergency room and they did X-Rays which they had found a mass with fluid on my lung. I know your wondering why is a spine doctor even involved well as they drained the mass on my lung the doctor doing the procedure caught a glimpse of my spine and took a picture of it and sent it to Dr. Talwar. So to my surprise and everyone else they found an enormous amount of staph infection in my spinal cavity, how it got there no one knows and it's still a mystery. Dr. Talwar and Dr. Rovner may be a great doctors/surgeons, however I have been trying to contact them since few days to get an appointment without any success. I have left appointment request messages on their website. When you call, no one picks up the the phone, if you leave voicemails no-one contacts me back. Now, it seems after letting it ring for a while, a lady picks up the phone and just disconnects. For the first time she answered and asked me to hold, but then immediately disconnected my call. And after that whenever I call, they are just picking up the call and disconnecting immediately. If you don't want to answer then you can just let us know that you won't be taking any calls or new patients so we can move on to a different doctor. Even if I get an appointment now, I am not sure how the future communication will be due to this kind of reception system. read more

I'm so surprised by these negative reviews. I had a double fusion C5-C7 in 2012 and it is still hanging in there. At the time though, I was in SO MUCH PAIN, and had atrophy in my left arm due to waiting for 2nd and 3rd opinions from UCSF and another surgeon, which were polar opposites of what I decided to do. (First surgery jitters) his bedside manner has always been amazing, and I actually enjoy his visits than most other docs. He recently found an unrelated problem that turned out to be pretty significant too. Hands down he is the best, and when it comes time to get that third disc done, he will be the only one I will let do it. read more

I went to Dr Talwar after visiting Dr. Tseng from Webster Orthopedics and having a miserable experience where Dr. Tseng snickered at my problem (herniated disc causing horrible leg pain) and told me he could do anything for me. Dr. Talwar gave me the pain meds I needed to survive temporarily and referred me for an Epidural which dramatically improved my state, got me completely off pain meds, and is continuing to work with me to resolve my issues. I appreciate his time and would trust him to do surgery if it is needed. read more

I saw Dr. Talwar for my back, he said that everything looked fine and there is nothing wrong although I had pain, he sent me to PT which did not help, then acupuncture and then said he would send me to a pain specialist but I never heard back from him on that. I have a complicated case. I have a rare nerve condition that can make treating my back issues even harder for my doctors. I had bilateral bulging disks at L5-S1 and were impinging my nerve roots. It affected both legs and was very painful. I also had a herniated disk as well. Dr Talwar and his office staff are very friendly and efficient. He performed surgery to alleviate all my issues and it was a huge success. Not only a success but also my recovery was a piece of cake. My pain was gone the very instant I woke from my procedure. I have been to Doctor Talwar twice. The first time in 2007 for Lumbar spine fusion. I had put the surgery off for two years and after words wish I had not. The Fusion turned out wonderful. I again went to Dr. Talwar for Cervical spine pain (2020) . He performed a fusion and also other nerve related issues in my neck. The fusion again has turned out very well.. I am now seeing a pain medicine specialist for the other issues in my neck. Dr. Talwar has been a caring and professional doctor from the start. I recommend him very highly. read more

I will never, ever come back to see Dr. Talwar again. My first visit was in December to talk about my back issues (scoliosis and disc issues). When I walked in I felt like I was at the DMV. Every chair was taken and it looked like everyone had been there awhile. I didn't initially worry as I had been to Muir Orthopedics a couple years ago for a stress fracture in my heel and it's packed too, but they move you in and out quickly. When 30 minutes past my appointment went by, I got a little nervous, then 45 minutes. At an hour past my appointment I was called back. FINALLY! But then I waited another 20 minutes in the room. So yes, 1 hr and 20 minutes to see this Dr. Then he walked in, so cocky and sure of himself. He started talking surgery before he had even looked at my back. He was so busy trying to be cool. He was cussing and talking about how his workouts are way harder than mine....yawn. But the reviews on him were good, so I trudged on. Today I went in for my follow up appointment after my MRI. 4:30pm appointment....I got called back into the room at 6:05 pm! The front desk person had left, there was no one else in the waiting room. Yes 1 hr 35 min...then when she takes me back to the room, she tells me there are still 2 people in front of me!! I'm getting livid at this point. After waiting 1 hr and 45 min, I realize, I don't even care what this Dr. has to say. I'm so annoyed that he thinks it's ok to overbook SO much to make more $$ and waste 2+ hours of my life. It's just unacceptable. So I asked for my MRI results and scans and left. There are far too many qualified spine Doctors in this area to be made to wait like that. The staff was frustrated too. The staff by the way are great...But Talwar has some serious changes to make. read more

After someone recommended Webster Orthopedics to me I went to see Dr. Talwar for chronic back issues that I have had for over 25 years. I am 54 years old and this was the first time I actually saw a back specialist so I was hopeful I could get some options to allow me to have more mobility and less pain. After getting an MRI and spending less than 5 minutes with Dr. Talwar in two appointments combined he basically blew me off. Since he didn't find anything he could operate on he told me there was nothing he could do and he had no idea why I was having back issues. Really? Isn't he a back and spine specialist? He didn't ask me any questions and didn't even examine me. He was rude and barely looked me in the eye the two or so minutes per appointment he spent with me. I spent over $500 for the MRI and have no doubt the insurance company was charged a fortune for the brief visits. If you have already diagnosed your back issues and have confirmed you need surgery by another reputable doctor he "may" be able to help you but if you want to see a back specialist to actually be diagnosed and understand your options Dr. Talwar is definitely not the one to see. Dr.Talwar is the best, so good he deserves his own Yelp review. He is in the prime of his career and is always operating. If you need surgery you go to the guy who has the training and does it regularly. If you have a work comp injury and you want a guy who's behind you 100% he's the man. He will without hesitation respond to every letter from your work comp insurer and appeal their denials although he's not that good on peer review phone calls primarily because a) he's busy and b) he works out of multiple offices. He also can get behind schedule because he pays attention to his patients. If you want to be seen on time and get terrible medical care go to Kaiser. If Doctor Talwar is a little late to see you don't get bent out of shape because he won't short change you when its your turn to be seen. I have been a patient of Dr. Talwar for over a year and a half now. My previous Dr. wasn't helpful and I was getting nowhere and nothing resolved for my injuries. Since I became his patient he's been very helpful and great. Explains everything in detail with me along with reviewing images from MRI's. I am grateful for his concerns with my health. He performed a C4-5 fusion, which I was battling with my insurance to authorize. I appreciate all his help and his concerns for me getting back to my normal heathy life. I went to see Dr. Vikram Talwar back in 2009 for a lower back issue. At the time I could barely stand up straight after sitting. I couldn't walk for any length of time and had great difficulty getting dressed. Before seeing Dr. T, I had been going to a chiropractor (Dr. Marshall Lee) in San Ramon who was a great chiropractor, unfortunately I would be in just as much pain as soon as I walked out the door. He told me I had to see a specialist and that he could no longer help me. I was referred to Dr. Talwar by Dr. Aaron Salyapongse, both are Specialist with the Webster Group. I loved Dr. Talwar, he was young, very confident, funny, sincere and honest. When we did the exam (he asked a million questions) he had noticed something wasn't right with my reflexes and said he was concerned with what might be going on in my neck. He said "I understand that you're in excruciating pain, but I really need to know what's going on in the neck area". I agreed and he had Gissele (His right arm) write up a form for an MRI. The neck MRI was just as devastating as the lower back. I cried, I was a mess. I had a 7 year old son at home that I wasn't going to be able to play with, hike, run, bike, etc. I was going to end up in a wheelchair. I asked Dr. V what I should do. He said "If you were my sister or Mother, I would suggest doing the fusion in the neck." He showed me where he would make the incision, which was a crease on my neck that as I aged would eventually wrinkle. Thank you Thank you! My husband and I agreed and the surgery was set. I was scared to death. The thought of someone (ANYONE) messing with my neck was downright frightening. Dr. V put me at ease as did the nurses in the O.R. They had nothing but good things to say about him and his success rate. When I awoke in recovery, I felt like a NEW person. I had no pains anywhere. It was fabulous. My follow up visits were just as great. The surgery was a huge success. Yes, I waited in the waiting area with everyone else but, Dr. Talwar wasn't and isn't the only Dr. in the house. Bring a book, video, etc. to occupy your time. You will have a wait (he's worth the wait), no you are not nor will you be their only patient. Have patience! Seeing a lot of patients for these doctors should be a POSITIVE SIGN that they are GREAT at what they do. When the time comes for my back surgery I will go back to Dr. Talwar. He is the best. My boyfriend went today and I had to write a review. I found this physician through yelp. My boyfriend has been struggling with lower back issues and had a recent MRI. He had gone to another physician but decided to try another to see if there was anything else wrong. He met Dr. Talwar and absolutely loved him. He spoke to him in layman terms about his back issue and was very direct. No BS. My boyfriend came out of the appointment very happy because he understood his issue. As a senior patient, who has had several back surgeries, I finally found the best! I had two rods surgically attached to my spine 30 years ago. Now the lower back and disc were giving out on me. My granddaughter sent me to see Dr. Talwar. God Bless them both! I had a four and a half hour surgery to repair the disc and nerve damage this last December. IT WAS A SUCCESS! I am up and running around with out any nerve pain. HIs staff is as caring and professional as Dr. Talwar. Now my husband is a patient of Dr. Talwar and is having a procedure to repair nerve damage this coming Wednesday. We live out of the area, but this office and Doctor are worth traveling for. Dr Talwar performed my back surgery in Oct 2014. My injury was a Worker's Comp injury. Prior to the surgery. WC denied the surgery and denied my appeal. About a week later, WC reversed their decision and I got the surgery. I didn't find out until later that Dr Talwar came to my corner and communicated with the vultures at WC which caused them to approve the procedure. Kudos to Dr Talwar and his staff! read more

I came to dr Talwar last year for back pain that was extremely severe. It started at my lower back and went down my leg to my toes. It was interfering with my job and my personal life. I found myself at home all the time. My friend referred me to dr Talwar. He ordered an MRI to see what was going on and we got the results in 3 days. Right away his assistant Giselle scheduled me in for my results. She was so nice and efficient. He told me that although my back pain is justified by what is in the MRI he did not want to rush into a surgery that may or may not work. I was totally on board with this because as it was I have already had other surgeries and would hate to have a surgery that was unnecessary. He recommended that I see his colleague for a couple epideral shots to start the "process of illumination". I was in with that next doctor one week later and two shots later Dr Talwar's office called me for a follow up to see how I was doing. I went in and since then my back has been tolerable and not even close to what it used to be. I love that dr Talwar is always looking into different ways to solve problems rather than jumping into surgery especially for my condition as it wasn't as serious as some others. Dr. Vikram Talwar completed my back surgery a few weeks ago and it was a great experience. I first came to him about 3 years ago for a herniated disc but wanted to try less invasive measures, which he was supportive of. Fast forward to about 2 months ago and my pain level became unbearable. He was able to squeeze me in earlier than originally planned and he went the extra mile during the surgery. It turns out that part of my disc had broken off and wedged itself in another part of the nerve. This was not shown on the MRI but he problem solved during the surgery and I have no more pain. I would not hesitate to return to him or to recommend him to others. Yes, his office can get behind, so if that's a big issue, I would try to schedule appointments as early as possible. read more

I went to see Dr. Talwar which my Doctor did a referral for. I have had chronic back pain for 32 years on a scale of 1-10 on pain in my 20's 4-8, 30's 6-8, 50's 6-10, - 3 months ago 7-10. In the last 4 weeks a non stop 10. I am 51 years old and this was the first time I actually saw a back Dr. So I was thinking I could get some options to allow me to have less pain in my life for once. I even did hours of research on the internet about other options. If Dr. Talwar would of said that he needed to operate that day, after I have heard many bad things about back surgery. I would have jumped on a table and said lets go. After getting an X-ray he spent less than 6 minutes with me. Dr. Talwar basically said my X-ray was great and he could not find anything. I'm sitting in the room thinking MY PAIN IS A 10 +. He can see nothing WHAT? Back specialist WHAT? He didn't ask me any questions he didn't give me things to try or go see about except PT. He looked at me like I was wasting his time. His bedside manner is not right. I have always heard and even from my Doctor before I went to see Dr Talwar that these doctors like to do surgery a lot of the time. I said I still wanted to go see him. My Doctor was giving me vicodin and the pain was coming right through. I was waiting for my Doctor to get me the appointment for 3 days or so. During that time I was in so much pain, I went to the ER after I was woken up at 2:35 a.m. in severe pain. I was thinking I would get a X-ray and a MRI to get the ball rolling. ER said no, they did not do that there, OMG (I even called before I went there to see what they would do and they said they could not talk to me about that I would have to come in) So anyway he gives me a stronger pain med. Worked for 1 day then back to the PAIN. $150 co pay for nothing. I don't want pills I wanted to get this over with. I have not received any good help yet. I want to say I really enjoy Dr. Talwar and his staff for helping me, not only with MRI's, paperwork and most importantly understanding me as a person and individual. Everyone listened and Dr. Tawlar knows what he is talking about. I have complete trust and faith in the man. Since the first time I was seen by Dr. Tawlar (I was apprehensive due to many disappointments from previous doctors from other areas in SJ county) he listened, reviewed my medical records and understood my concerns about medications and the pain I have been in for the last two years of my life. After appts. and finally approval from the adjuster we are on our way to get physical therapy and injections and go from there. Dr. Tawlar is down to earth and speaks to you not at you, and actually listens and will give some in site information just to make you feel your not alone. For me I like that. I don't like doctors or people that have a stick up there butt let alone don't listen to me when I am the one that has been in pain and been fighting this worker's comp case. I don't boo hoo, I am as honest as I can get. I want this pain away as much as the next person, But I really believe with the continuing help and support from Dr. Tawlar and his staff and his referrals for what I need will do the trick and maybe just maybe I can have a pain free day. I would recommend Dr. Tawlar to anyone that just wants the facts and true help. I followed Dr. Talwar from Webster Ortho. to his practice Disk and Spine. Dr. Talwar is an amazing surgeon with an incredible reputation. Prior to my surgery as I received blood work in a different city I was asked who was doing my neck fusion. When I responded it was Dr. Talwar I was instantly told he was a great surgeon and they knew of other patients who had excellent results. Getting a multi-level neck fusion is a very scary thought, so getting the perfect surgeon is better than winning the lottery. His staff is amazing too. Jackie is kind and patient and certainly keeps this busy surgeon in line and keeps the show running, which helps lessening the wait for each patient. And I can't say enough about Gisselle. She is brilliant with her knowledge and patience. She can answer any workers comp or insurance questions and she is incredibly kind.
