Just came to get matching tattoos with my best friend. First off I came in with a sketch of a daisy and a daffodil and I love the way Kyle transformed my sketch to something more minimalistic like I wanted. I was nervous at first because I thought the artist was going to be rude because of his tone of voice but he just talks like that! Scott did my tattoo, he was super nice and did a decent job on my tattoo. The only thing I would have liked to be a little better with my tattoo would be the roman numerals, I feel like they're a little sloppy, a little crooked..just not as nicely done as I would have liked and pictured. I notice they have a few bad reviews, of course I didn't get a tattoo by every artist so I'm not sure how everyone else is but the shop was clean and everyone was friendly, the work on the wall was nicely done. Boe did an amazing job on our tattoos. We were visiting from New York, my daughter and I went looking for a place to get last minute tattoos. We hit the jackpot with Boe. Everyone in the shop was amazing, professional and very helpful. We found them by accident Thanks to another tattoo shop in the area who acted unprofessional and rude towards us and everyone that walked in or called. I called Ancient Art as we waited for the rude guys to review my daughters piece and Ancient Art said come right on over without any hesitation so my daughter and I left and headed over. As soon as we walked in the shop we were greeted quickly and filled out our paperwork. There was a little wait but it was worth it. Boe even stayed late to accommodate us. I myself have no ink. My wife on the other hand, has a few tats. Her huge back piece and one of her wrists was done by Tony Franco at Ancient Art. I have known Tony for a while now and I know a great many people that have ink done by him. My wife is very happy with her work done by him. I have seen a couple of the other artists work while I was waiting for my wife to get her stuff done by Tony and the work was very impressive as well. Matching tatts were not matching. Two separate artists. One created the design correctly and one did not. One dug way too hard, caused scarring. The lines were not dark enough or done correctly. Kyle (although aloof and nonchalant) did the art correctly. Bo (the older, sarcastic one) did not. This was not a good experience and I would not recommend it. Quite disappointing. I came here back in September to get my first tattoo. The lady at the desk seemed a little out of it like she had no idea what was going on. First of all - you walk in and it looks a little scary, but they seem to know what they are doing tattoo wise. They DO NOT take credit cards, so you have to use this sketchy ATM in the shop to get cash out. Now on to the crap experience. Mind you, this was my first tattoo and they knew that. I apparently got extremely ripped off with the price I got charged for my SMALL tattoo. My boyfriend got charged the same price for his BIG COLORFUL tattoo. I'm pretty sure its because it was my first and because I'm a female. That does NOT fly with me. I won't be coming back here. read more

Went in yesterday for my 3rd tattoo. I got a skull with an Indian headdress on my thigh. Turned out better than I could have imagined. The place is not fancy located in an industrial area but the staff have always been friendly when asked questions or giving a quote for new work. they do work by set price or by the hour. read more

My tattoo was done by Tony Franco, and I'm really happy with it. I had a tattoo done when I was 17 years old while away at a military academy, and 20 years later it looked faded. I was looking to have it re-colored and maybe added on to, but wanted to hear his opinion. Tony came recommended through one of my LinkedIn friends, and I happened to be in Richmond. I called, and he was gracious enough to stay late in order for me to drive the 90 minutes that night, as I was flying back out of state in the morning. The shop was convenient to the freeway, and was clean. My tattoo is a shield-shape, and he came up with the idea of re-coloring and then turning the shield into a stone tablet, complete with color variations and cracks in the stone. It looks really good, and I would recommend Tony to you if you're in VA Beach. Next trip up I'm going to work with him on a half sleeve, and I'm confident it will look great! read more

The friendliness wasn't the best. There is nothing on the website that says bring cash so we were ordered to use the atm in the shop which was out of service so we had to leave to go get cash. My artist never told me his name so I am unsure of who he is. The tattoo came out nice however it was my first one and he wouldn't let my mom come back with me and I have been to numerous tattoo shops where I was allowed to sit with her. When I came in a month ago I was quoted one price for a larger piece and a more expensive price for the piece I received. I am not sure if I would go back there again! read more

Horrible experience for FIRST tattoo my friends 18 was this weekend we decided to travel to va beach for a little beach trip and they were unprofessional we arrived at 1:30 and were told to wait an hour and thirty minutes so we did but we have them a two hour wait period and then we were told another hours and thirty minutes which at this point were irritated and hungry so we left to grab a bite to eat as we returned one artist became "sick" and left and as were leaving he almost hits us with his car and doesn't apologize either but yeah after we came back they were lied and said another customer had a scheduled appointment Although just as us she was a walk in and wasn't from the area either but we left and received excellent service down the road at Ocean mystique art gallery friendly staff and waaaaay more professional highly recommend any other shop but this location. Women seems nice but we're sure it's only to get money these people don't truly care about satisfaction of the consumer((((: read more

Tony Franco on the Virginia Beach Blvd. location is amazing! Near 30 years of experience and talent. Also he just bought some crazy expensive new tattoo machine that does great work at about 1/4 the pain. Same experience as others....terrible customer service. I don't have a bunch of tattoos hanging out everywhere so they assumed right away I don't know what I'm talking about. I showed up at 5 when I was told to by the person who answers the phones, and they had just started in on a 2 hour job....they didn't listen to anything I was saying and after telling me "no your tattoo is impossible" they blew me off and told me to come back in 2 hours and MAYBE I would be LUCKY enough that he could come up with something then and it was going to be twice what I was previously quoted.... Proceeded to wait around for the "receptionist" to get off a personal call so I could ask her a question for 20 minutes, and then when other people came in the door, the receptionist literally put my stuff aside and told me to come back later and immediately started talking to them before I had a chance to say anything. Additionally, I heard her call me a B*$@& as I was walking out and the people behind the counters chuckling. Needless to say I will never be giving them any of my business, and definitely will not be recommending them...ever. read more

I've seen some of the work from this place and thought it was okay at best however I went to see For myself, upon walking in I saw some of the display art and figured I would go for it at first the staff seemed friendly starting with the girl at the counter and the old man that was doing tattoos but within a minute I started to realize their customer service was horrible, the old man kept telling me my tattoo wasn't going to work when I had already had a few tattoo artist friends of mine tell me it was perfect for its size album he insisted I make it bigger to charge me more no doubt, once we agreed on a size and placement on the arm he said he could do it for 300 which i thought was quite outrageous but for my first tattoo I figured they were just expensive anyway I came to realize that my less than 3 by 1 inch black stencil tattoo was certainly overpriced and the work was terrible quality it looked like I could of done it and I am no artist by far l, I would not recommend this place to anyone and I will never come here again read more

HORRIBLE.My friend and I were visiting Va Beach and walked into Ancient Art tattoo. We had been planning on going to Ancient Art for a couple of months. We wanted to go to ancient art because their work was awesome on the websites. We walked in on Monday 1/2/2012. There was on girl getting a tattoo on her foot in the store in VA Beach. There was one tattoo artist in the store. He asked us if we needed help and we told him that we wanted to get tattoos. We showed him the pictures of the tattoos we were interested in getting. He straight up told my girl NO, that will not work. He didn't offer any other help at all. Then I showed him the picture of the tattoo I wanted and he looked at me like I was retarded, and told us that we would have to come back another time. It was very discouraging for us since we had heard and seen such great things online about this tattoo shop. Luckily we found an AWESOME tattoo place with great customer service and we got the tattoos that we wanted and the tattoo artist did not talk to us NOT LIKE CHILDREN but like adults that wanted tattoos. read more
