Studio Evolve in Virginia Beach is the best tattoo studio on the East Coast. I've been coming to see Jeff Malota for about five years, and I can't recommend him--or the studio--highly enough. Jeff has an incredible ability to take the image I've imagined and bring it to life with remarkable precision. His linework is flawless, his color choices are always spot-on, and he has the lightest touch of any artist I've ever been tattooed by. The studio is exceptionally clean, everyone is welcoming and friendly, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality of work. Whether you're a longtime tattoo enthusiast or getting your first piece, Studio Evolve is a wonderful place to go. I always leave thrilled with my tattoo and already looking forward to the next one. read more

This place is awesome. The customer service is excellent. They even track the lot numbers of their needles. Very clean and I'm so happy.

I came here for my very first tattoo, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. Kasey was my artist, and she's an absolute sweetheart! I came in with some art I found on Pinterest, but thought it would be nice to give her some creative freedom too. She came up with a small ghost for my wrist -- and I loved it instantly. Over the past week, I've gotten so many compliments on it. Turns out that I love it wayyyy more than my initial line wraparound! She made the process so smooth, gave great aftercare advice, and was just such a vibe the whole time. Huge shoutout to her, she does amazing work! I also want to shout out the rest of the crew I met during my session: Canada, Flaco, and Sam. They were so kind and welcoming. We vibed over books, life struggles, and everything in between. It all felt so genuine, like hanging out with friends. And it blew my mind that they remembered me when I attended the VB Tattoo Fest this weekend! For a first tattoo, I couldn't have asked for better people or a better experience. I'll definitely be adding more over time. I totally get the idea of "tattoo therapy" now - highly, highly recommend this place! read more

Studio Evolve is by far my favorite tattoo studio in Hampton Roads. All of my experiences with them have always been great. Amazing artists, exceptional professionals, & just really cool, nice people. Thora helped me with two tricep tattoos & I am currently getting a rib piece by Sadie (Birdy) under the mentorship of Lucy Lou. The place is cool & has artwork, awards, & just cool shit in general hanging around by various artists including Rusty's caricatures on the push pin wall in the lobby. read more

Got my tattoo done by Bella. Took about an hr and turned out so good! She did an amazing job and I love it! She made sure I was okay and kept me updated through the process. I saw a FB post that Kasey was apprenticing and doing free tattoos at the time for practice. I messaged Kasey and she replied promptly and gave me feedback for the tattoo and we got scheduled! Walking in I was greet by the receptionist (I can not remember her name I'm sorry girl you're awesome) Seth (a vibe and so sweet) and Sam(so sweet) they were all so welcoming and excited my husband and I were there to get tattooed by Kasey -love how supportive they all were. Kasey came out and greeted us and showed us what she had drawn, she happily changed a few of the things I wanted tweaked and took us back! She introduced us to her mentor Flaco which was so funny and nice, he answered her questions and gave her positive feedback. Kasey listened to all his feedback on what he suggested which was refreshing! When I first messaged her I was able to get an additional appointment with my bestie and when we went we had a good time with the staff! Everyone was just so nice and funny and made us feel so relaxed and comfortable! Our tattoos came out sooooo freaking cuuuuuute!!! I'm so excited to see Kasey grow in her career! She's just starting off and going such a great job! I can't wait to all her beautiful work in the future. My husband and I already have more work in mind and we already know we're coming back here!! read more

Very satisfied with my simple text tattoo! After a few, prompt email exchanges they agreed this could be done as a walk-in. The next day I called at opening and was scheduled for 1pm with Jeff. It has been two weeks and it has healed up nicely. The studio was clean, bathroom sanitary, and the entire staff (met four them) were welcoming and courteous. read more

My tattoo looks amazing! Super happy I came back for another tattoo! Very friendly staff and super accommodating.

I called the studio the day of asking if they had walk in availability. I received a call 2 hours later they had someone available. The studio is very clean and welcoming. This was my 6th tattoo and every tattoo I've had done at a different shop. Hands down this shop is very female friendly and non intimidating. My artist was a guest artist Tommy Ray. He was very kind, welcoming and gave me exactly what I wanted. I absolutely love the tattoo and had an amazing experience at the shop! read more

Taryn Williams is the best tattoo artist. I would recommend her to anyone. She was patient, kind, and great with communication. I had my whole side torso done by her and the healing process was 10/10. It still looks great to this day. read more

The studio itself is awesome, lots of interesting art displayed around the building. A great variety of artists as well. It was really easy to schedule and the consultation went great. Our artist was sweet and incredibly talented, there was a minor issue with having to redo the original designs but I am so grateful for her understanding and taking the time to make both the first art as well as the new style. The work turned out amazing and overall was a very tolerable tattoo experience. read more

Well my birthday is coming up and I decided to start exploring options to cover up part of a half sleeve tattoo. This was my first stop and will probably be my last. I had some pictures and ideas with me. The artist doing same day (Jeff or Jim) said he would look at the cover up. Without even asking what part I was interested in really covering up and exploring any options he says "you should go get laser removal". Wow. Not only was this my first impression, but disappointing to know that a place with such high ratings has artists not even willing to explore options with the clients. Response to Owner: Really disappointed in the tone of the response to my original review. I was not mean or disrespectful but I was honest of my experience that I had at this business. Honest reviews are what should be appreciated. The statement "perhaps a more open mind to options suggested" was interesting since I was only provided one option...laser removal. I wish this business the very best... read more

I received my 1st tattoo from Studio Evolve. I knew what i wanted but asked the incredible assistant at the front desk for recommendations. She named several artists who worked with black and grey realism. Mark was the artist i chose. From start to finish Mark was totally professional. His room was clean and he had entertainment to keep my mind occupied for my 3 hours session. A couple weeks later i stopped by Studio Evolve to show off my healed ink. Mark saw room for improvement and touched up my ink. Like i said very professional. read more

I set up a consultation a week prior. Upon my arrival I get a call from the shop 20 minutes prior to the actual appointment time, only to be told I can set up everything with the artist(Colleen Bricker) via text. Mind you, I live an hour and 30 minutes from the shop. I felt like this was very unprofessional and the establishment should work on communication. Overall the entire experience was very distasteful due to how business was conducted. read more

I was running late due to traffic and she was very understanding. She made sure that I was comfortable with the artwork and that I was happy. The session was long, but Abby was attentive to the area she was working on and gave me a few breaks. I love Studio Evolve, since finding me 2 years ago, I only go to them. Flaco Martinez is amazing. Flaco was great at building on my idea and worked with me on positioning. He has a great bed aide manner that would put a first timer at ease as well as someone who has been inked before into a fantastic piece of body art. The location was clean and sanitary, he wore gloves and opened fresh needles in front of me before starting. I felt very at ease and if I am ever in the Virginia Beach area I would have Flaco ink me up again. Strongly recommend STUDIO EVOLVE & FLACO MARTINEZ read more

This is a great location, my wife and I did some research into the local scene and were told by a few folks to check this place out, so we did. From start to finish the artists and office personnel were very helpful with each step from the consult to deposit to appointments. My wife had some work done with Colleen and myself with Mark. They were both very professional and passionate about their craft and hit the nail on the head with the outcome of our respective tattoo's. Also enjoyed the sense of camaraderie felt when in the chair. Other artists would walk in and say words such as "that is going to be a sick design when finished". The studio itself is also very clean and the cost is worth it. Highly recommend checking this place out as each piece of ink that comes from there is one of a kind. read more

My mom, grandma, and I wanted matching bumble bee tattoos. I emailed the front desk to get a sense of who would be the best fit, and they sent me a few artists' portfolios who might fit the bill. I worked with Chipi (our artist) to set up a time and date that would work best for both of us. We came in today to a welcoming front desk staff (Abby). Chipi got all 3 of us some water and worked with us to make sure everything was right with the design before he got to work. It was my grandma's first tattoo, and he couldn't have been better. He was gentle, communicative, and confident- everything you could want in an artist, much less for your first one! Our final products turned out amazingly, with more detail and precision than we could have dreamed of. Thank you to the team for such a wonderful experience- we will definitely pass on our recommendations to friends and come back for future tattoos! read more
