I was referred to James by my cousin. My cousin trusted him to do his full arm and leg work so I took his advise and brought my idea to James. He made it happen. We started out with an intricate design that I had brought to multiple artists who all said it couldn't be done. I explained what I wanted and the reason behind it. James was able to fill the gaps With his years of experience for a finished piece that turned out better than I could have imagined. The studio is extreamly clean, organized and welcoming. I'll be back Thank you Studio Evolve!! read more

1 We had a great experience at Studio Evolve. The staff was friendly, capable and really went out of their way to make us comfortable. Our artist was Canada. She was professional and patient, making sure that our tattoos were exactly what we wanted and that we were comfortable and well informed. We will definitely be back. read more

Jamie Cary is awesome. Needed a finger tattoo. He was easy going, concise, clear and understanding of the design I wanted. Going back soon for another with him. This time on forearm and ears. Thank you Jamie. :) read more

Studio Evolve - Tattoo Near Me - Virginia Beach, Virginia

I live in Baltimore but wanted to venture out for a tattoo in VA Beach, where I used to live. I visit occasionally and thought I could find a nice, clean, professional place to get a tatt and see some friends at the same time. I booked my tatt and came in one day for a consultation. I paid my $250 security deposit and scheduled the appointment. I followed up with my artist through email (which she said was ok) about the details for my design that we had talked about. She responded about two weeks later with a short sentence saying cool. I responded to her email and asked if there was anyway that I could proof the design before the appointment date since I was coming from so far. No response. So I followed up again like 10 days later. No response. At this point I'm getting worried because my main purpose for driving down that day was this tattoo appointment. I send one last email about two days before the appointment. No response. I didn't want to lose my deposit by cancelling too late so I just decided to come anyway. She responds to my email the night before and says that she traditionally doesn't send over designs beforehand. I'm ok with that because that's how it is with most tattoo shops. She also says that she didn't realize I was coming from Baltimore. This is something I mentioned at our consultation and in each of my follow up emails. I get to the studio the next day, and the design she showed me looks nothing like any of the references I sent. It's not the same font, positioning, etc. I did have to change the location for health reasons but I'm not sure why all of the elements got changed. It was an extremely basic design that I could've drawn myself. Needless to say, I ended up not getting the tattoo. My biggest problem was the lack of communication from the artist. I feel like my time was wasted. This place seems really well run and is probably a decent place to get a tattoo. That just wasn't my experience with this particular artist. read more

Been coming here for over two years. Great place to get tattooed - clean, professional, friendly, and full of great talent!

Completely over priced for the quality of work. Went in for a coverup and had some pictures for ideas of what i wanted and the design nowhere near covers up the original piece. I was charged $600 and told i would need another session or two. I couldn't make an appointment due to work and called and left a voicemail two days prior and had to forfeit my deposit because they were closed two days in a row. The lines of the piece are so shaky and it's going to be extremely hard to find someone to fix this poor work! Highly disappointed customer! read more

Gonzo always does a great job. Friendly staff, clean studio. I would definitely recommend !!

This was my first time at Studio Evolve but it most certainly won't be my last. Not only was the studio impeccably clean and professional, but everyone on staff was competent and incredibly inviting. I was there for a total of four hours and in that time had one of the best tattooing experiences - I had the opportunity to meet other artists aside from the one I made my appointment with and also had the chance to see their artwork come to life. Can't wait to come back for more additions! read more

So how do you give a well respected studio a good review but still have a bad experience? I went into Studio Evolve, after checking out their website and their artists portfolios, with two pictures for tattooing. One was a Navy ship and the other was a picture of a skull and fire tattoo (its a picture of a tattoo that I got from the internet) that I wanted. This was set to be designed into a full SOCK on my right leg. I knew who I wanted to work with prior to going in and got to talk to him that day. I showed him the pictures, while he was in the middle of a tattoo, and he was totally SUPER cool, chill and said he could do it/wanted to do it. I appreciated the fact that while he was working, he was helping me-that meant a lot to me bc he didn't have to do that. I did all the paper work, paid the deposit and communication from him to me was GREAT throughout. I was super excited to get this tattoo started (not my first tattoo btw). When I went in on 15 FEB, the design I was shown for the skull and fire was no where near what the picture I gave him was (the ship portion had minor changes but was great). What was drawn up for the skull and fire was cool, but not at all what I wanted from the picture I gave them (and I even made sure to put all the information on the paperwork I had to fill out). We talked a few times about it, and the artist I had (leaving his name out of this bc he was totally cool/chill/great dude and I don't want people reading this to get the wrong idea) said he didn't want to "steal/plagarize" someone else's work and that he was uncomfortable doing the design I wanted. I found this odd as he had the pictures for a few weeks prior to my apt. But, I respected his opinion as he is an artist (and from the things I saw online, a pretty dang good one). While I was willing to change some things, his design was different from what I wanted, and I told him I was pretty set on the picture I gave him (I appreciate artistic interpretation and leeway, but this his design was way different). So, he made a comment to me while upstairs, "hey lets go downstairs and see what we can do." Keep in mind I was supposed to get started on the tattoo that day. As we walked by the front desk he turned around, said "hey I don't think im gonna be able to do that for you as what you want is too close (to stealing the artistry) and then he told the lady at the front desk to either give me my deposit back or help me find another artist. They recommended another artist for me, but I respectfully declined as I was a bit pissed off. He told me he appreciated me being totally up front and honest, and that he just wasn't going to be able to do the tattoo for me (the way I wanted it like the picture). I definitely didn't want to come across as "that customer" and totally appreciated his delivery method but was in awe that this just happened. We agreed with each other that what we wanted to do was not in the others "vision" and agreed to part ways. While I can say I am not happy and totally bummed that I am not getting that tattoo and have to find another artist (I would still love for him to do it-but in the design I want done), I would still give Studio Evolve 5 stars because of the atmosphere, the people were super cool and helpful, and the communication I had with my artist was fantastic. The place has a kick ass vibe to it; you feel it when you walk in the door. So...how do you give a shop a good review but have a bad experience? Like this. read more

I walked into studio evolve (without appointment) hoping I would be able to get help with a tattoo that wasn't exactly what I wanted. I had visited another shop and asked for monarch butterflies in different sizes on my inner arm. What I got really disappointed me. I could have said no but I didn't HATE the butterflies. After time went by I knew I wanted to find an artist to help me fix it, and also to find a good and reliable tattoo shop to visit. I called before I went and they took my phone number and said they would let me know when an artist was available for a walk in. About 30 mins later I got a call that Jeremy Tatum was one of their newest artists and would be taking walk ins. I asked for his portfolio and looked at a few of his tattoos on the studio evolve website, and I knew he would be able to help!! Although Jeremy is one of the newer artists at the shop, his customer service skills and willingness to make sure my tattoo was exactly how I wanted it, made the experience amazing! He drew with sharpie to map out the changes he wanted to make, and gave me EXACTLY what I wanted in the first place. He took his time and made the process super chill. Once I left the shop I got SO many compliments!! He even took the time to do some correction work and fix some lines that had healed up a little blotchy. He chose his colors well and they were exactly what I wanted!! I had bad experiences in the past with artists, but Jeremy is who I will ALWAYS be going to from now on. Everyone in this shop from the moment I walked in was friendly, understanding, and comforting. Studio evolve definitely lives up to their reviews! I will be back for any tattoos I want in the future! read more

Studio Evolve - Done by Lucy Lou (just a pic of the outline) - Tattoo Near Me - Virginia Beach, Virginia

I came here after seeing work that my sister had gotten done and after hearing her speak so highly of the place. I decided to go with the same artist (Mark) because he appreciates nerdy stuff like my sis and I. Everyone throughout the entire experiece was very friendly and VERY helpful. I did not feel rushed to make any decisions and everyone was eager to help me with any questions I had. The studio its self is very clean and well set up for the comfort of each customer getting inked. The prices may seem kind of high at first, but the quality of work along with the atmosphere made it so I was truly getting what I paid for. 10/10 will get inked here again! read more

This is by far the nicest studio I've ever been to, Gabe and his crew are doing it right! Studio Evolve is the cleanest, coolest studio I've ever seen. Regardless of whether you are tattoo'd from head to toe or just looking for that one special piece of art, Everyone at Studio Evolve is nice, professional and polite, they offered me a drink as soon as I walked in for my appt. offed to pick up lunch for me while I was getting my work done and they talk to you like you are an old friend (Try getting any of that at ANY other studio around Tidewater!) I've got 2 tattoo's by Gabe, I couldnt imagine going anywhere else and looking forward to several more by Gabe Cece. He plays some awesome music while working his magic too! I highly recommend Studio Evolve to anyone looking to get their tattoo done right. read more

I got a tattoo today from Flaco Martinez. So did my cousin. Her tattoo was outstanding. And mine I couldn't be happier with. The first drawing he showed me was not quite what I had in mind, however we discussed it and he came back with artwork that was almost exactly what I had envisioned. And the final work is perfect. He is personable, and friendly as well as professional. Additionally his (forgive me if I don't know the proper terminology) sanitation and safety procedures were impeccable. He also personally guaranteed all his work and assured me if there was any issues, he would address them. His aftercare instructions were clear, and although in depth, I feel comfortable being able to follow them without worry. The staff at the front desk offered to print the aftercare instructions for me as well. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend studio evolve if you're looking to get a tattoo in the Virginia beach area. If I had to find something to complain about, it would be that it took a phone call from me to get them to respond to my initial email inquiring about getting a tattoo there, but once I got the ball rolling everything went smoothly. Fast forward 3 days later I'll bore you now with some background info. I have one other tattoo that I got on my arm about 17 years ago. The person who did it was not experienced but did a good job with the art. Her skill as an artist was outstanding but her skill as a tattooer I now know was not where it needed to be. I don't know the technical stuff but by now my first tat was covered in scabs, but Flaco, a consummate professional, applied my tattoo and there is no scabbing at all. I can tell it will heal quickly, and correctly. Bravo sir. All around it was a great experience. read more

I'd give it no stars if I could .So this was the the finished product of the great tattoo I got from @blakes_placeva at @studioevolvetattoo . I consistently asked if this healing was normal and he said it was and that it'll get better , now I get to walk around with an infection and messed up tattoo . Oh the whole tattoo isn't infected just the deep black spots that he went in really hard. As if that wasn't traumatizing enough, when I reached out to the artist about it and to give him the chance to rectify this he was extremely rude and cussed me out before I even finish talking. So, unfortunately this has been my experience. I was so excited just to get an infection on half of my arm and to be treated disgustingly. P.s this sht burns I'd post pictures if I could read more
