My wife and I are big fans of haunted attractions and have been to them all over the world. Ravenwood is a moody, artfully executed take on the haunted farm/corn maze attraction found in New England. What makes it unique is the attention to detail in the design of the props, sets, and costumes, all of which come together to create a beautifully haunting atmosphere. The location helps to set the mood. We drove down dark and windy country roads and arrived at a farm with a large white barn in some state of disrepair. Parking attendants guided us to park in a field up a hill. There is a bit of a walk from the parking area to the attraction and it is almost all downhill on dewy grass, so consider this when picking shoes to wear. At the entrance, there were several vendors selling doughnuts, cider, hot dogs, and even a bacon-themed food truck! We purchased premium tickets but, in retrospect, did not need to do so because the line was not very long. Actually, it was surprisingly quiet there for a Friday night. However, reading other reviews suggests that we just lucked out as the lines can be much longer at times. After waiting for a few minutes, we were led to a tractor-pulled hay wagon for a ride to the attraction with a dozen other people. From there, we were whisked (okay, towed) to the attraction at the edge of the woods. The attraction itself featured several parts, including woods, several buildings, a "cemetery," and a corn maze. Most of these were executed very well. At times, I found myself in awe of the eerie beauty created by the lights, mist, and woods. The actors and costumes were excellent, and most seemed very into their roles. There were a few places which could have been helped by more actors, such as the corn maze, which felt a little long by the end. Overall, it was a fun experience and I would recommend it. The people who built Ravenwood have created an impressive attraction that should only get better as it becomes more popular. I look forward to going back next year.

It is really cool place where old and new funky furniture is hand painted or restored and creative home decor adorns the store. If you are looking for that special creative piece, stop on in and talk to them, I'm sure you'll find a match. Next door at 61 Wingate is Positive Images Gallery which is owned by Patricia, a sweetheart who offers a personal touch of a unique gift shoppe. The store started out as a photo gifts store and expanded to include many different unique and personal creative and spiritual gifts. If you are looking for a special unique gift she most likely will have of it or know where to get it.. Plus she has beautiful photo cards. The Gallery to the right of Mizan on 53 Wingate is Margot's Gallery, owned and operated by Margot Landau. She is a wonderful person who has a passion for the Arts. Her Gallery offers some of the finest jewelry and hand painted treasures from around the world. She is very active in the Arts and organizes the Wingate Arts Council and works with local groups to enhance the aesthetics of the city. This is done by supporting fun events and venues on the street for all to enjoy. To learn more about the Gallery, please visit online at www.margotsgallery.com. After strolling for a bit, feel free to visit the Peddler's Daughter www.thepeddlersdaughter.com on 45 Wingate and enjoy a pint and the best fish sandwich. They are known for a great, warm atmosphere that serves up the best meals, drafts and Irish music available. They offer Live Music on Thurs, Fri and Sat nights too. There is public parking across the street in the Wingate lot and if it's full there's usually a space in the Granite or Essex St. lots. If it's cold out and you are looking for an excellent freshly brewed cup of coffee, or Americano, then definitely visit The Wicked Big Cafe www.wickedbigcafe.biz on 19 Essex Street and say hello to the owner Mark. This cafe offers the most scrumptious baked goods and handmade fresh sandwiches in the neighborhood. There are many tables to dine at and you can relax in a comfortable chair and read a book or surf your Laptop with free Wi-Fi. Either way it is worth the trip to savor these fine coffees and treats. These are just a few of the many places I have visited in downtown Haverhill. Not only is the Arts district a great place to be, but Washington street right round the corner has some of the best restaurants in the area. If you are looking for a place to unwind and enjoy the local arts, it definitely worth the trip to the Wingate Arts district, you may just like what you see.

I mean, I've never actually went in any of the stores here because 1) parking sucks. 2) the stores seem to never be open. 3) There is always stores changing hands so you never know whats there. 4) I would likely get sucked in to peddlers rather than trying to figure out what to look at. I guess they could do better advertising or have better retail hours (like during the times most other folks are not working). Just a thought. I don't know how a string of 3 or 4 storefronts constitutes a "district" in little old Haverhill, but I wouldn't give anyone false high hopes that this place is "hip"

It's Time to jump into The TimeMobile & scour the Earth & take you to places from a different time that you won't believe still exist. We have set the dial to 1875 to the town of Haverhill MA. & Winnekenni Castle. Many people think that you have to jump the pond & visit Jolly Old England & The UK to see a Castle. Not True. America has many castles; unfortunately they are just not being promoted. This trip is less than 1 hour drive outside of Boston. Bring a Picnic basket, a water bottle & some good sneakers for an easy 20 minute nature walking hike. After your hike, head back to your car & pull out the picnic basket for a picnic on the green grass on the banks of the Lake. The inside of the Castle is Closed & is only open for Functions, Weddings & Special Events etc. Don't worry you will still be able to see the outside of the Castle close up, the Castle Grounds & lots of other cool stuff. Park your car at the bottom near the playground in the Parking lot or on the side of the road where the signs allow Parking. There are closer Free Parking lots on the way up but you will miss out on all the Adventure & The Winnekenni Castle Hike. So Park your car & follow the signs on Castle Rd. up to the Castle. There are multiple trails & if you like hiking & are more adventurous you can go for several miles all around the Lake. We're going to do an easy trek - a 20 minute hike up & lots of natural settings to see. You will travel along the dirt trails along the lake shore & up the hill to the Winnekenni Castle. THE HISTORY Winnekenni Park Conservation Area is 700+ acres that overlooks the Kenoza Lake which is Haverhill's primary drinking water source. Dr. James R. Nicola built the Castle between 1873 & 1875. He was inspired by the stone structures & castles he visited in England. This was his former residence that he used as a summer home. It is not a huge Castle but modest in size but beautiful. Speaking of Beautiful, the word Winnekenni is taken from the Algonquin Dialect meaning Very Beautiful. C Willis Damon was the Haverhill architect who designed this Magnificent Castle. In 1875 the city of Haverhill purchased it along with some additional land in later years. Besides nature walking & jogging, you can do bicycling, cross country skiing in the winter months, horse back riding & other activities. Like I said The Castle is open for Private Special Events. There is no tour here. They also have Special Public Events every so often that they open the Castle up & are either reasonably priced or even Free sometimes. Check the website for further details & upcoming events. You can check out my other review about Winnekenni Park also. There are picnic tables & benches here or just put a blanket on the green grass & Chill. There's even a Playground Area with Swings, a Slide etc here for Kids. So have a great time exercising, explore & learn about the great outdoors on your adventure, see a castle & have a fun picnic on the green grass on the outskirts of the lake. And guess what? IT'S ALL FREE! It used to be, you had to have Mega Bucks & be Really Rich to have the Good Life, not anymore. The Game has changed. You've been Upgraded. Now You Can Live Like a King on a Limited Budget!

We brought our own yoga mats/towels, but they did have them available to rent for $5 each. They also provided bug spray (which I highly recommend using). The yoga instructor walked us through what to expect and gave the disclaimer that she wouldn't be offended if we ignored the yoga instruction and just focused on the goats. This was great because once the goats were released, the yoga became more of an afterthought for us. The baby goats were adorable and eager to interact. The young assistants directed them with treats to climb onto our backs, while we did the yoga poses. The assistants were also there to take photos, but we usually had to request this. We were also given little bags of treats to feed the goats. Some of the smaller goats were super cuddly and loved to be held. At the end of the class, the staff handed out some "sweet and savory treats" for us, which included sliced strawberries, a yogurt covered pretzel, and cheese. Overall, we absolutely loved this unique experience!
