Someone peed my pants!! Ok this place was scary. If you look at my other reviews you'll see I'm a down to business meat and cheese guy. Every now and then I decide it's time to unclog an artery and get in some cardio (I struggled even typing this word). What better way then running for my 450 pound life through the woods while hungry zombies want a piece of my glistening flesh? There are multiple attractions here. Clowns, a castle, haunted woods, and a hayride. My favorite was the hayride because I could sit and let the haunts come to me! They put me on the back of the hayride due to my weight and the front wheels lifted up a few times, but they were really accommodating. The actors would run out while our tour guide would tell spooky tales. It wasn't a Philly cheese steak, but this thrill gave me the sweats just the same! I really enjoyed being scared and getting in my steps for the year. Come here, get some fried dough, be spooked, and pray you don't end up like me, going home with wet undies. I didn't pee my pants, but based on my sloshy, wet under carriage, someone definitely did! A+!

My wife and I are big fans of haunted attractions and have been to them all over the world. Ravenwood is a moody, artfully executed take on the haunted farm/corn maze attraction found in New England. What makes it unique is the attention to detail in the design of the props, sets, and costumes, all of which come together to create a beautifully haunting atmosphere. The location helps to set the mood. We drove down dark and windy country roads and arrived at a farm with a large white barn in some state of disrepair. Parking attendants guided us to park in a field up a hill. There is a bit of a walk from the parking area to the attraction and it is almost all downhill on dewy grass, so consider this when picking shoes to wear. At the entrance, there were several vendors selling doughnuts, cider, hot dogs, and even a bacon-themed food truck! We purchased premium tickets but, in retrospect, did not need to do so because the line was not very long. Actually, it was surprisingly quiet there for a Friday night. However, reading other reviews suggests that we just lucked out as the lines can be much longer at times. After waiting for a few minutes, we were led to a tractor-pulled hay wagon for a ride to the attraction with a dozen other people. From there, we were whisked (okay, towed) to the attraction at the edge of the woods. The attraction itself featured several parts, including woods, several buildings, a "cemetery," and a corn maze. Most of these were executed very well. At times, I found myself in awe of the eerie beauty created by the lights, mist, and woods. The actors and costumes were excellent, and most seemed very into their roles. There were a few places which could have been helped by more actors, such as the corn maze, which felt a little long by the end. Overall, it was a fun experience and I would recommend it. The people who built Ravenwood have created an impressive attraction that should only get better as it becomes more popular. I look forward to going back next year.

The Dark Crop Haunted Corn Maze

Haunted cornfields are probably the easiest and cheesiest attractions in the whole Haunted…read moreAttraction industry. It is very very rare to come across one that I actually enjoy. Dark Crop I found by accident in the middle of a nowhere road one night. Getting out of the car and looking over a huge corn field that is at least 2 feet taller than most corn fields all I could hear was random screams in the distance. I was hooked from the beginning. Typically a corn attraction grows paths that are about 6 to 8 feet wide. The corn is dead and grassy and only 7 feet tall just tall enough that its difficult for most to look over. At Dark Crop you get about 1 to 2 feet wide of a path with stocks maybe 9 feet tall and thick like bamboo. Your way is barely lit by tiny little lantern posts. Other places you are lucky if you feel lost in the corn, at Dark Crop you are STUCK in the corn. Actors are more into it then most places, every one of them actually had a character. And Let me mention they have a little farm stand where you purchase the tickets. In the coolers they have what I think may be some of the BEST Pumpkin Woopie Pies EVER! So that's a bonus. Dark Crop is the right price for a good little side adventure during one of your October nights. One of the best New England has to offer if you ask me.

Unfortunately, it seems to have gotten much more popular in the last year-- and with more people comes some really poorly behaved ones. Given how successful the Dark Crop has become, it would really be to their benefit to add some staff to manage the extra crowds. -We had a big problem with lots of large groups cutting in front of us. The line was already very long. Then groups of people would come join a friend in line in front of us. We came with a group of eight and waited at the entrance until everyone was ready. Other groups would send one or two "delegates" to get here early, then the rest would all come cut in line. It's annoying when one or two people do it, but when the number cutting far exceeds the number waiting? Really inappropriate. And it happened several times. The worst was a sorority/frat group that *insisted* they had called and the manager said it was ok... Then, literally over twenty people cut in front of us as more carloads arrived from campus -Family fun and long lines means lots of antsy kids. Running and screaming is one thing-- ok fine we are outside, I'll deal with it. But some big groups with bunches of kids just like totally gave up on parenting. Example: Kids climbing the apple trees and having contests to shake out the most apples. Other kids had contests trying to shine flashlights into others guests' eyeballs to make people "go blind." It was really annoying. And we had to deal with it for 90+ minutes. Those are the types of issues that could be solved by having some folks stationed at the middle at end of the line for the whole night. I know it's a small family establishment, but I really hope they can hire a few additional staff members to help manage the crowds. IDEALLY... Hold onto your horses... They'd have a system where tickets are sold by entry time. If you miss your time, you can wait in line on standby. Overall: the actors are just great and we had a really fun time. Unfortunately, we spent so much time waiting helplessly as the line grew infinitely longer in front of us... and poorly behaved kids harassed us... it was hard for us to get excited and leave happy :/
