DO NOT trust the boatyard in Antioch! Unfortunately, and not surprisingly, I do not see a place to create a review on the boatyard website so I will post here instead. I will also be writing a google review. Where do I begin... My husband and I wanted to support this small business, but it ended terribly! Last fall 2022 my husband and I trusted the Boatyard in Antioch to winterize our boat. They gave me a verbal quote then charged my credit card more than we agreed upon. We went back-and-forth through text and she refused to honor her quote. Our boat sat outside with the understanding that it was winterized and safe from our harsh winters. Unfortunately, that was not the case, because when we looked into getting our boat ready for the summer, two local and well known businesses determined that the boat was never winterized at all. It still has its original filter and the oil was never changed. The worst part is NO antifreeze was used to flush out the engine! We approached the Boatyard through text and email regarding the issues, and they are ignoring us. We now have to pay $1400.00 to resolve the issue because the freeze plugs popped out and Gordys in Fox Lake has to fix it. Between what the boatyard charged us for the "winterization", having two mechanics look at it, and fixing the boatyard's negligence we are out at least $1,900. My review is long overdue. These terrible people keep deleting my reviews on fb so I need to share here and yelp the nightmare they caused me. I booked a pontoon boat for 8/7/2022 ahead of time online unfortunately giving them immediate access to my credit card. With plenty of time before the cancelation period I had reached out to the boatyard with the intention of cancelling due to bad weather in the forecast for that Sunday. I was told that I had nothing to worry about and that if there was bad weather they would absolutely give me a rain check and I wouldn't be charged anything extra. So me being a fool, I believed them. Fast forward to the morning of we (my friends, our spouses and our kids) headed up to get breakfast before we headed to the boat. At that time it was pouring rain with lightning and thunder so I made my first call as to inquire if we even needed to come there as we obviously would be having the rain check. NOPE. This woman told me she was there at the boatyard and there wasn't a single rain drop coming down. She now had an attitude and was yelling on the phone. I told her I was already up there and I could see with my own eyes that it was storming. She told me that either way she was going to charge me. So I told her that's fine we'll come as not to lose the money and if anything happened to us it would be on her head. The husbands took the kids home and me and my 3 girlfriends decided to tough it out. When we arrived at the boatyard of course it was pouring rain and this rude woman wasn't even on the property. We started filling out paperwork with a young boy who seemed very confused that we were being forced out but said this is how she is. I decided to call this woman again and asked her to actually show up to talk to us in the rain. Instead she showed up 10 minutes later drunk out of her mind screaming at us that she wasn't letting us take the boat and that she would refund me and to leave. We said great that we would like the paperwork we signed making us responsible for the boat destroyed or given to us and a receipt showing she refunded our money. She refused and started getting into my one gf who was pregnant's face acting in a threatening manor so I decided instead of throwing this lady in the lake I would call the police before it went off the rails. She kept accusing us of filming her which we weren't but probably should have been. But also because we could prove that we never even got near a boat incase she tried to pull something later after we left. When the lake county sheriffs got there they were extremely helpful and said that she claims she lost the paperwork (the one from 20 minutes earlier) and that she was being uncooperative. The told me to immediately file a charge back with my bank and that's when we realized she had charged my card AGAIN. I got a police report to document we had never been near a boat. Then it took months as she attempted to fight to keep the stolen card money. Claiming it wasn't raining and we were the reason we didn't go on the boat. Luckily for me I had so much documentation and the police report that capital one rightly sided with me. I meant to write a review yet never had time and imagine my surprise when people started sending me articles that she was arrested and she had allegedly ripped off more people's credit cards. I tried to leave my experience on fb and she blocked me so that reminded me to make review where it counts. Do not rent from this woman, she has destroyed barnacle bobs legacy. We rented from them before she bought the place for almost 20 years and never once had an issue. This place is a nightmare and the owners are unhinged. read more

The worst experience ! DO NOT RENT BOATS FROM The Boatyard! we rented a 2 story deck. Owners didnt warn or tell us that we couldn't go a certain route or pass any bridges. So we ended up bumping into a bridge that we weren't warned about or advised about, nothing major happend just a small dent on top of boat. We knew coming back once our time was up we were going to discuss the accident and take the correct actions, but female Owner started calling and harassing us over the phone that she saw a video of us crashing her $100,000 boat and she's calling the police and that she's going to take us to court , and that we're DUMBASSES who don't know how to drive etc, when it was a simple accident that the owners didn't warn us about! She already had a $500 damage deposit that was charged on my card for that purpose , we weren't hiding or not taking responsibility which she acted like we were over the phone. We brought the boat back by the time we had to, we booked it for 12-6 and we were back at 6pm! Before the owner had even started calling to harass us which started at 5:30pm, we weren't even back to the dock yet and the owner hadn't seen the damage or discussed anything about it yet, she already attempted to charge my credit card on file for almost $6000!! How do you charge a customers card for that amount for a damage you have not seen or discussed about? as we got to the dock she wouldn't let us dock, didn't help us verbally in assisting to dock and was being rude and harassing and disrespecting us again on how we didn't know what we were doing instead of helping us to dock, she proceeded to start record us and call the police and sheriff . Once they arived she got on the boat and docked it for us, yelling and shouting at us, she then snatched my friends phone out of her hand as she was recording what was happening and threw it in the water , and then accused us of stealing her 15 year employees phone , when she had it for recording herself apparently . We all got off the boat , police was present, she then accused aditional people from our party leaving and taking that phone , nobody from our party had left. 9 of us rented and went on the boat and 9 of us came back and nobody left. , She made up that we're 12 of us, we also had paper work that we all signed , that she took over an hour to find and forsigned our signatures on. Just being so unprofessional and disgusting as we were the customers spending money at her business. Ruined our whole trip and day , after everything was done and we were able to leave she went on trying to charge my credit card again at 3am for I'm not sure what. We will be taking this to court and pressing charges! Just disgusting busines owners that shouldnt even be having a business! I HIGHLY recommend you choose a DIFFERENT place to rent your boat. Owner hung up on me and disregarded our complaints. We followed up with the company three times about issues in which they ensured us we would hear back about. We received zero calls so I followed up today. ISSUES WE HAD: Shaking engine that beeped and turned off suddenly multiple times throughout the day. Inaccurate Gas gage. Only given one anchor when promised two on the boat during inspection (could not stay in the middle of the water without moving due to weight and lack of anchors.) Had to dock up to hold the boat steady. Last year we had issues but though maybe if we rent the upgraded "premium" it will be nicer. NOPE JUST AS BAD AS LAST YEAR. The women on the phone said because we talked on the phone and in person that she has no record of any issues and we are making it up so she did not have to help us. She said we should have emailed or invoiced so it was on file even though they assured be I would get a call back and did not need to follow up with them. Our first call was from the lake, we reported having issues and we were able to resolve them after consistently having the boat turn off in the middle of moving and having to wait to get it to restart. They talked us through and we decided to stay out and not waste our day driving back from the opposite side of the lake. When we returned the boat to the dock, we discussed the same issue with a kid helping tie up the boats. He brought us over to talk with the "boss/owner" according to the kid employed by boathouse. The man assured us he would be able to take a look and we would get a call within the next week. It has now been over a week and they are saying they never documented any of it and don't owe us a call. Being upset by this, I asked the women what she could do to help at this point since she kept telling me I did not report the issues and had no right to help. She said i could not speak with anyone else and then ignored me over the phone. I continuously said hello and tried to get a response in which I heard her sigh and hang up the phone instead in the middle of conversation. BUYER BEWARE Please Read We rented a pontoon from here for 4 days week of 7/17. As we got on the boat, the worker told us several items were broken - myself/husband/daughter heard this: the gas gauge didn't work, horn didn't work (we had a whistle instead), front seat was collapsed but usable & the captain arm was broken. We asked if these are noted for the boat and he said Yes. We had a long term rental on Fox Lake- not Lake Marie - so we asked about filling the tank by our house. He mentioned a few other places on the lake by us. Later that afternoon we went back to the Boatyard. Upon returning, the young employee working asked us where our orange flag was as it is against the law to tube without an orange flag. We never got a flag & she was very surprised we didn't receive a flag. We also asked her about the issues with the boat. She said "we've know about these for a long time and they've been like that for a while". We had 11 witnesses that time. The next day we went to a marina near us to fill up before tubing. The worker indicated the gas tank was in an odd location (under the boat) and the gas cap was sticking. On day 3 we went to the same marina near us to fill up again. This worker also noted the odd gas tank placement & had trouble getting the gas cap off & back on. My husband called the owner Kristen to discuss the issue with her & seek her guidance. Instead of offering help & a solution, she immediately started yelling at my husband that it's our fault and we'll have to pay for it. My husband replied "we have put up with all the boat issues you gave to us and this is how you treat your customer". She insisted that there were no issues & we'd have to pay for all the damages. She ultimately hung up on my husband. The marina sealed the gas tank & we went back to Boatyard. Another young employee was very nice and helpful. Kristen the owner was nowhere to be found. The employee got the cap back on & said "this has happened many times with this gas cap". We then mentioned the 4 other issues & she too said "we've known about all these and there is no way she (Kristen) can blame you". Fortunately one of our kids recorded this conversation. On the last day we started to the Boatyard to fill up (apparently we have to fill up there?). Within 10 mins the boat died in the middle of the lake. We had just filled up the day prior so we knew it wasn't gas (gas gauge is broken so how could anyone know anyways?). I called the Boatyard to report being stranded in the middle of Fox Lake w/6 passengers. Immediately the owner Kristen started yelling at me that it was our fault, that we were "idiots" and "she's sick of dealing with this us" and "we're gonna pay". She then hung up on me, leaving my party stranded in the middle of the lake. Fortunately I was already driving to the marina to drop off a car so I just drove over to the Boatyard. Kristen ignored me and sent a young worker to deal with the problem. My party of 6 were stranded for 2+ hours. The young employee called his "other manager" (who is the owner's husband). He drove out to the boat with gas to help get our stranded party back to the marina. While at the boat, he put in some gas, but it didn't start. He then removed the entire surrounding of the engine from the boat and played with it for 10 minutes before starting it. Meanwhile the owner was at the marina telling me and my daughter that "I'd bet money on the engine is flooded due to the gas cap. These boats never run out of gas". I kept asking why the gas gauge wasn't working. She said they disabled them because the employees don't know how to properly fill the tanks (so she caused the gas gauge to not function on purpose? Doesn't seem very safe to me). Once the rest of the party arrived at the marina, we exited the boat and told the owner we were done & were going to return the boat a day early given all the issues and we didn't feel safe. We had our family of five and 6 of their friends for the week - kids were devastated, but we had enough. We asked for our money back for the last day but obviously we'd pay what we owed for the other 3 days. Kristen stopped talking to us and went back into the office. We asked for a detailed and printed receipt of all the charges. She said they couldn't print a receipt and it would be sent via email. The emails received did not detail all of the charges. We called our credit card company the next day to get each charge from the Boatyard. She charged us for the 4th day, which we were stranded and then returned the boat. The remaining balances that were due for the other 3 days, she charged us 25% more on each day. She then fraudulently charged our credit card two $500 "damage" deposits even though we did absolutely NO damage. The kicker is one of the $500 charge was before we even got back to the Marina. We were over-charged more than $2000 on our credit card. We have taken further action against this company. read more

DON'T RENT FROM HERE! My family and I rented a boat and when we faced issues and tried to call the owner Kristen, she was incredibly rude to us and didn't help the situation whatsoever. We even broke down in the middle of the lake. When we told her we were stranded she called us idiots and didn't offer any solutions. Luckily my mom was not on the boat that day and was able to drive to the facility and explain the situation to the employee. After we got off the lake we told Kristen that we weren't paying for our last day given that we were left stranded for two hours. She then started to yell at us and attempted to escort us off the property. She completely ruined our trip with her miserable attitude. I can't say enough about the service from boatyard. Mind you if your smart the place gets busy. Check in right away. The staff is young although very wise so listen and treat with respect. It will go far. The water has alot of traffic also and every bit of advise is well worth knowing. Say it again. Be smart check in right away to allow the staff to accommodate.1hr prior. Had my wife's 50th on the water and a few days after people are still texting me saying what a great time they had. That's because of the boatyard made it happen. Don't do business with them. They don't care. My child was injured when we arrived to our vrbo and they charged us for 5 days (pontoon rental) anyway even though we couldn't use the boat. Even the contract says you are only responsible for four days. They won't refund me even the one day they over charged me let alone being reasonable about a legitimate excuse on why we wanted to return the boat. I guess 11 stitches isn't worth keeping a repeat customer. Don't do business with them. You have been so advised! read more

the pontoon boat we rented broke down on the way back to their dock. we phoned the yard and the owner told us that as long as the motor started we should drive the boat in. After a few times of firing out and restarting the engine it finally died competition. A second call finally got the owner to come out and tow us in. The owner said to go home and she would let us know what happened. She never called,emailed a recietcharging us an additional 630.00. when we asked for an itemized recite she refused to send one.
