First visit to the Raleigh outlet of this Buffalo staple that claims to have invented the Buffalo wing. It's an L-shaped room with the bar in the corner. It's a lively sports bar with plenty of tvs for fans of every sport. Classic rock plays in the background (better than the blare of the TV sports commentators). It was a full house on this Friday night but not so loud that we had to shout to converse. We all tried.... Wait for it.... WINGS! The wings themselves are nice sized, no scrawny bites here. The medium sauce is perfect... Some heat, flavorful and not overpowering. Wings are sauced perfectly - tossed but not swimming in sauce. I prefer extra crispy, and mine were prepared that way, as ordered. Sweet potato fries, regular fries and tots are good... Crispy and hot, but not special. It's only week 2 so service is choppy as things settle in. No worries, that will improve quickly. This is a great place.... Give it a try!

Beef on Weck with Onion Rings

We have been eagerly anticipating the opening of this new restaurant in North Raleigh, knowing it's an offshoot of the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY, home of the original Buffalo wings. Four of us checked it out this Sunday and were quite pleased with our experience. We are also fans of Beef on Weck which is also from upstate NY, so we had to try their version along with their wings. The Beef was so tender and we loved that they serve it with real horseradish on the side, along with a tasty au jus. And we all liked that the weck (roll) had just the right amount of salt. It wasn't overbearing. Fries good. Slightly sweet perhaps? Wings nicely executed. Onion Rings got the thumbs up from Husband. I'm happy to report they have a combo on the menu for around $20 that comes with the Beef on Weck sandwich, plus 5 wing pieces (your choice of sauce, but really you gotta get the original), and a side. Great deal! Curious about their pizza, we also got a large pepperoni to go for other meals. It was good, but I'm a thin-crust Gal and this one is super thick. I found the sauce to have a tomato flavor, but not really a pizza flavor. It was like eating bread with tomato sauce on it (lighter on the sauce than I prefer also), with cheese and pepperoni. They do use the good cup-kinda pepperoni though. If you're a Bills fan, this is your place to watch the game. If not, perhaps go when they aren't playing, cause it gets packed and loud. TIP: Get on their email list for $10 off.

Buffalo bar, Buffalo food - Anchor bar based in Buffalo- finally here in NC Plenty of parking, spacious seating friendly staff. We ordered beer- they carry local, domestic and imported. They also have wine and signature drinks. The wings are good- not a Buffalo medium- more a Raleigh Medium - I am originally from Buffalo- the wings come with Carrots and Celery- these came with only celery. Wings were tasty- I will order them hot next time. We also ordered Pizza - pepperoni was perfect- dough was not even close- it was flat. Place was clean music was loud - lots of TV's- Manager came around and we had a nice Chat:)

Spicy Garlic Parm wings

Great spot. Service was great, very friendly and attentive. The vibe is very cool, with plenty of TV's and sports decor. I got onion rings and wings. The wings were out of this world. The Spicy garlic Parmesan were so flavorful. I'm in town visiting for just three days but am already thinking about making a second visit. Check it out!

First time trying this place and OMG was it good. I ordered the wings and weck. The roast beef was done perfectly and tasted amazing. The bun was very fresh as well. The wing were covered with a buffalo ranch dry rub which were delicious. The fries were seasoned well too

definitely underwhelmed!!!my husband was so excited to eat here as we love the one in NY... big disappointment! Our server was not good. Beverages sat empty, despite him walking by numerous times. We literally had to flag him down for eveything. Took 2 other tables order while I was waiting for my drink. My husband had his. Wings came so overcooked. One was nothing but one bite of meat. At 1.69 per won't I expect more than one bite. Rest was bone and overcooked skin. Then pizza came. Ordered a supreme no doubt server messed it up. Came with nothing but onions and green peppers. He's says oh I'll get my manager. Really - so we wait again. Over 40 minutes for first order to come out Had to wait for another pizza so another 15 mins despite being told it would take 7. then bill comes they charged $2 for black Olives !???! Black olives came on our pizza In total $41 for bad food, bad service - will Not be back!

Extra crispy wings with mild Buffalo sauce

AJ was our server on Saturday evening and we had a great experience with her service and getting reacquainted with Anchor Bar. We used to visit the one in Buffalo when we went to Canada until we moved further down south. I was so surprised to discover this location opened up not too far away from me. The bar is decorated in Buffalo sports paraphernalia and there are tons of flat screen tvs all throughout the bar. We were seated quickly and AJ was very sweet and accommodating. She checked with the chef if we could get a double order of wings but split up the serving with different flavors on two separate plates (10 extra crispy wings with mild Buffalo on one and 10 lemon pepper on the other). We also ordered the fried shrimp with her recommendation, honey garlic sauce on the side. Our food arrived piping hot and crispy just like we asked. As we were nearing the end of our meal I was curious about the differences in their sauces so we asked AJ about the various kinds. Instead of describing them she offered to bring out a plateful of each sauce in tiny sample cups. She did just that! Now we know what sauces to try the next time we come in (spicy bbq for me and mango for my husband). Thanks AJ for the great service and pleasant return to Anchor Bar.

These wings were just as good as the originals from Buffalo New York. Fries, tots, onion rings all fried to perfection.

I dropped by one afternoon to check out this new pub in North Raleigh and I was delighted to find…read morehow cozy it was and how hospitable and sweet the owners, Kevin and Stephanie, are. The decor in The Winchester Pub is unique in the fact that they don't have all the stereotypical, tacky beer signage that others have and the bar is completely handmade by Kevin himself (it's gorgeous). Their selection of beers on tap is primo -- you won't see any of the over-served blah beers of other bars. Instead, you'll find a finely curated selection that boasts a variety of tastes. If you're not into beer, there are also a few bottles of wine you can choose to have a glass of. There's a small selection of canned brews you can purchase from the display case in the front of the pub, back of the pub, and in the refrigerated unit in the rear, as well as cider, spiked coffee malt beverages, alcoholic seltzers, and beer kegs. Surprisingly, there's even some bagged coffee! If you fancy bringing some pub merch home, there are branded mugs for sale. Above the bar, there are mounted TV screens, perfect for enjoying local sports games (especially European soccer matches on the weekends). Plenty of backed barstools surround the bar, and there's a line of round, leather-topped stools along the back wall. If stools aren't your cup of tea, there are two cozy leather couches you can lounge on: one in the front (by the entrance) and one in the back (next to a pool table)! If you're not craving any booze, there's a water cooler in the front of the pub and canned sodas in the fridge (Sprite and Coke). If you're feeling playful, there are couple of board games on the one of the beer display shelves by the entrance (beneath the framed red jersey). I'm more of a cider kind of girl, so Kevin suggested a fantastic, locally-owned cider out of Pittsboro, NC: "Chatham Cider Works Highway 64". It was sweet, light, bubbly, and strong, especially at 10% ABV (so, watch out!). My husband and I both sampled the "Fullsteam Igor Cake" Pastry Stout (9% ABV), which was super sweet. Hubby ended up ordering the "Casita Home Sweet Home" Imperial Stout (10% ABV), which had a cake-like flavor, was super smooth, and not too sweet. No foods are currently served here, but there are some snacks for sale behind the bar and you are more than welcome to bring in your own noms to accompany any drinks your order. From the cooler, I bought and tried: - Brown Bomber Mocha Hard Latte - flavored malt beverage (5% ABV) made with 100% Arabica coffee and milk. It's recommended to shake well and serve over ice. It was soooo creamy, chocolatey, and delicious -- you can't even tell that there is alcohol in it! - Brown Bomber Vanilla Hard Latte - same as the previous, but vanilla-flavored - Sound Craft Rosé Seltzer (5% ABV) - super smooth and tasting of freshly pressed blackberries, I could not tell that there was alcohol in it! If you're looking for a cozy spot to throw back a pint as you unwind from work, you've found the perfect place!

Pub is tricky to find, so make sure you drive down the hill and behind the main mall. But it is so…read moresmall. I came for a World Cup match. I wanted a great soccer oriented environment. Despite arriving over an hour before the match started, every seat at the bar was already taken. And there are no tables so if you aren't fortunate enough to get a bar seat, you're SOL. I saw one or two bar patrons eyeing me weirdly, like I was invading their home space. So I decided to just leave. Per the online menu, they do have over a dozen drafts available, but I didn't get to try any of them. So disappointing.
