Was at the location near work the night before, My cousin requested to eat here for her birthday, so I took her here. This location, the waitress was super nice and the restaurant was nice and clean. It didn't take us long to get seated, but the food did take a while. I didn't have a good experience with the wings the night before, but I thought different location let us see what this is about, and again I was disappointed in the wings, however I tried the burger my cousin order and that was amazing. so it seems like all other items are a better choice from the wings. I have truly learned my lessons and I will stick to the burgers and other items rather than falling for my craving weakness of wings only to be disappointed. I'll start off by saying I've been to the original Anchor in Buffalo but I was going to the Burlington location not necessarily looking to compare to the original. In all honestly I wasn't impressed with the original Anchor at all really. Their pizza was very greasy and the wings were just meh. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that when you think of the original birthplace of Buffalo wings that your expectations get set a bit high? Perhaps... Anyway I was going to take this Anchor on its own merits with no comparison to the original so I won't. The location for this restaurant is where a Shoeless Joe's used to be and that Shoeless Joe's I hate to say I could see why it closed... It wasn't good when it was there. This replacement place isn't bad but my first impression is that it's not necessarily great either. I don't know if it's just me or what but the prices for this place seem rather high for the type of fare they serve. 8 wings for 14 dollars? Being a lover of chicken wings I can tell anybody that you can get wings for more reasonable prices just about anywhere. Because of the prices I was simply turned away from that option. Knowing what I know about the wings in Buffalo (I said I wasn't going to compare and in the end I didn't) they weren't blow me away anyway. The only place where 8 wings would probably fill me up is at Crisp in Chicago where they are giant and unsplit (basically double) and I wasn't going to have what would equate to an appetizer to fill me up for lunch. I'm a big guy... I need not just quality but quantity too. To me the wings just didn't seem to be a good bang for the buck. Looking over the rest of the menu I decided to go with the beef on weck for a few reasons. One is that you can't get this just anywhere here. Buffalo is close to where we live but this particular food item is not on every pub's menu so to speak. It was a change for your everyday type of food that we can get anywhere here. Surprisingly they offer poutine here, surprise surprise... any place that serves fries in Canada has poutine it's almost automatic. The beef on weck came with a side of fries for 15 bucks. I figured I'd get this since really it's an upgrade to a burger and again it's sort of a special item. The serving size was just about right. It didn't seem skimped on the meat and but it wasn't overkill at all either but it was a fair serving. The bun of course is the star of this dish though. The "weck" or bun is basically a bun that has caraway and kosher salt on it and it adds a particular taste to the sandwich. I sort of had wished I had more horseradish but either way the first few bites I had without the au jus just to get the taste. The beef seemed to be medium well type but it was juicy enough. I kind of wished it was more red, medium maybe. If I was asked (if they serve it that way) I would have asked for medium rare-ish but at the end of the day the sandwich was very good. My critique to this place is that their prices seem to be sort of higher than normal across the board. I had ordered a pint of Goose Island IPA and that was 8 dollars. With wings being almost 2 dollars each and pints in the 8 dollar range it makes me wonder how long this place will stick around with the competition for pub type fare in Burlington is rather fierce. In the end the Anchor is a decent place to go but it just seems to be more expensive than other places which are very similar in the immediate area. While I had a dish that isn't normally available everywhere else, most of what they have on the menu pretty much is as global and universal as you can get. If I would come back to the Anchor honestly it would be just for the beef on weck and not too much else, wings included. I'd put Korean fried chicken up against any other type of fried chicken these days, even an affiliate of the originator of Buffallo wings... read more

When we got the bill, apparently it also does not include the bruschetta. When I asked Elisha, she said only on selected items This should've been made clear when we ordered. We feel cheated. Anchor Bar - Buffalo - is not just the originator of Buffalo Wings, they are my favourite wings AND pizza joint within a 3 hour drive of Toronto! Buffalo style pizza is one of the very best, saucy and sweet, with tons of cheese and greasy well-done, tiny pepperoni - no need for crust-dip sauce, because the crust doesn't taste exactly like the spring-water you make it with (sorry P-P, but we both know you are just as shocked as I am that so many people have been trained to ingest that flavourless crud you call pizza). Sooo, there are NO wings like this in Toronto, as Torontonians seem unable to tell the difference between real buffalo-style wings, and the ubiquitous breaded-plus-pedestrian-bottled-honey-garlic-sauce crap that T.O. wing joints serve. Toronto wing joints pioneered the idea that if you mix your crappy bottled honey-garlic sauce with other crappy bottled sauces, and you can get 101 flavours! Honey-jerk-mango-lemonpepper-parmesan-chipotle wings anyone? (blech!) And, don't say Duff's because their rubbery-yet-dry wings, over-doused in weirdly bitter, pulpy sauce is just simply not how wings are supposed to be done. All that said, I found the Burlington location to be good, but not great, when compared to the original. Now, it's outstanding when compared to "Wings Gone Wild", "Hockey'N'Wings", "Superhero Wings", "Devil Wings", "Wings & Boooobies" and all the other places that T.O. folks are forced to get their wings. - (names changed to protect the GUILTY!). The wings were very good by Toronto standards, if a tad pricey, but the pizza was very disappointing, perhaps marginally better than, yet conforming to, the typical local tastes, well-trained by years of catchy phone-numbers and pretty orange boxes, to prefer bland, undercooked pizza with only a smattering of shockingly flavourless, waxy cheese. Better than that for sure, but nothing like the original! My suggestion? Find out when they have wing night, or a special, get some great buffalo-style medium or hot wings (which by law should ONLY be served with blue cheese, not ranch!) and an order of their solid fresh-cut fries, and wait for another night to go and grab some pizza from Danforth Pizza House. 3.75 out of 5 read more

A great place for family night out and a great place to come watch the big game. Dining room has lots of comfy booths and tables. The bar area has several TVs so you can see them from wherever you're sitting. Large bar top seems like it could seat about 30 people around. We sat at one of the high top tables in the bar area, luckily we got there early, as it fills up very quickly on a Friday evening. Server was very quick to come greet us and we ordered a couple drinks and an appetizer to start. Highly recommend the Blueberry Lemonade! We ordered the potato skins to start. Comes with four on a plate, and they were good. My only complaint is that they could have been seasoned a little more, had to add salt to improve. Moving on to the main course, we ordered a pound of Cajun wings and the Beef on Weck sandwich with fries. We ordered the wings extra crispy, as recommended by our server, and they were great! Just a little too much seasoning for my taste, came out very spicy! The server informed us that some people had complained of not enough seasoning in the past so the kitchen staff was instructed to add more. The beef sandwich was delicious, comes with horseradish and cheese, and gravy sauce for dipping. The combination of flavours here was perfect! The fries were also amazing, thin cut, crispy fries with some seasoning on them. Of course we left room for dessert as well! We shared the Dolce de Leche cheesecake and the Tuxedo Cake. Both were amazing! I recommend trying both! Service was great, despite the fact that it was a Friday evening and obviously one of the busiest times. Well staffed and very well trained. Nice tavern style restaurant serving " naked" Wings with all the flavour and they are large. 6 wings and fries are a meal for sure. Incredibly disappointing experience, and has been so all of the times I have visited. It consistently takes over 40 minutes for the food to be served after ordering, and when it does eventually come, is generally not very hot. The burger tastes like a frozen burger, except with at $17 price tag. Would not recommend and will not be going back. read more

This is only based on the wings... And they are apparently "the original buffalo wing". Personally I like crispy wings and our waitress suggested that we get extra crispy which we did. The sauce was great but the wings were soggy...sad soggy wings. :( My hubby ate them as they were but I had to take off the skin I just can't justify eating chicken skin unless its crispy! I will probably come back to try something else but I definitely will not be coming back here for wings. read more

Checked out this newer pub on a Thursday around 6:30. Place was really busy but we got a table right away on the bar side. I was pleasantly surprised that there was a live band. Music was great but soo loud so don't sit on that side if you want to talk. Got the wings and was asked if we wanted it extra crispy. Never been asked that but we said no. Wings were pretty big and they mixed our sauce half honey garlic and bbq because we couldn't decide. We also got the antipasto pizza but my gf thought it was so salty she couldn't eat it so we sent it back. Immediately a manager came by to apologize and offer free dessert too, which we declined but very impressed with their service!! We changed it to the white pizza and it was very good, pizza's are made fresh! They also have tv's all around which is nice. Great casual bar! read more

Two lbs of wings and a large half pepperoni and half cheese pizza take out cost us $71.01. Wings looked artificial, definitely not worth the money. Pizza was dry (barely any sauce) and less pepperoni than Pizza Pizza and that's saying something. Will not go back. read more

Went to the Anchor Bar at 3:40 pm. Took 10 minutes to get our water and the place had only 1 other table seated. Our waitress finally came over and said " this must be the longest wait for a glass of water". She was the bartender and only server in the place. She also was complaining about another guest to us .We placed our order at that time. We ordered salads and wings and fries. The bell rang for order up. The waitress said that's your food. She never came back. 15 minutes later another stupid joke about a ballerina. No mention of the food taking so long or offer to bring the salads. Another ring for order up. No food again after 45 minutes We decided to leave and for the server. She said " your food is ready right now". We left since there was no food. Such bad service. What a shame read more

Went with my family Let's start off by saying it took 45mins to receive our food 630pm on a Thursday night. The Mac and Cheese was like soup terrible had to send it back. I ordered the wing rib combo and it was nasty the ribs were like they were boiled 3 days ago and sauce was thrown on them the coleslaw was awful had no taste and the wings were ok but nothing great!! The french fries were salty but edible if you want good wings hold on great wings go to Gator Teds just around the corner!! We will definitely never go back to this restaurant. Had an early dinner with a friend and since we were craving wings, we decided to try Anchor Bar. I have not been to any of the other locations so this is not a comparison what so ever. As we had an early dinner, the bar was not full but there were already a few tables. When I arrived all I noticed were TVs everywhere..like every direction big and small. There was also one in the washroom lol. We also had a personal TV at our table. It would be great for sure during a game night! Our server was great, she was attentive and great. We ordered the Triple which is three pounds of wings (24/wings) and got two flavours- maple honey garlic and Cajun rub. We also ordered the calamari. The calamari was flavoured and fried nicely. It had the right amount of crunch and chewiness. As for the wings, the maple honey garlic was yummy while the Cajun was crispy but it lacked flavour. It was a little bland and my friend also noticed. The size of the wings were good so a positive point on the wing scale:) I would come back for another try of the wings and other menu items. It would be great if they had a wings night or something like that. Overall, Anchor Bar is definitely a great hang out spot with friends and a place for watching games. Thumbs up!! read more

Happened to stumble on this brand new location (3 weeks old) when stopping in at the LCBO on my way home from work on Friday. Absolutely love the Buffalo site so decided to give them a try. Ordered a platter (5 lbs, 2 flavours) to go. Restaurant was deserted but the bar was hopping. Menu seemed to have quite the selection. They even have Cheesecake Factory items as an added bonus. Price was comparative to other wing joints. Blue cheese and celery included with the order. Wings were large (compared to BWW) but still didn't measure up to the original locations size. Wings were tasty and crisp. Even had the option of extra crispy. Ordered half hot, half mild. The hot weren't very hot though but they did have suicide and even one flavour hotter than that. Very very busy on a Friday night! I've been to the Anchor bar in Buffalo as well and both were good. Had chicken fingers and fries - easy, yummy, reminds me of Jack Astors' chicken fingers so thumbs up. Service was good, slow evade it was so busy but our sweet was very attentive once it slowed down. Loved the chicken wings! Some of the best ever...service was OK but new restaurant staff is trying to figure out the ins and outs (takes time) thus the not 5 star rating. However! Floor manager realized my group was leaving after hearing it was a 45 minute wait for a table on a Friday night. He personally stopped us from leaving and had us at a table in 2 minutes, thought that was brilliant and deserved to be recognized! Only suggestion would be with the fried calamari instead of fish sauce serve a garlic or some sort of white sauce as the fish sauce wasn't very good, but the calamari WAS excellent. Well I was really looking forward to eating at the Anchor Bar - especially reading about their history (of their wings) and how they started out. I was especially wanting to try their wings...until I saw that they charge $13 for 1lb (6pcs)!!! And then it got worse...I asked if I could order just the 'flats'. She said oh yes, but there's an upcharge. SERIOUSLY!?!?! You're already charging $2.17 for each half of a wing (or $4.33 for each full wing) and now you want to charge me more for the half that has barely any meat on the bone????? AND there's NO WAY that 6 flats weighs 1lb. Ridiculous! So I guess you can figure out that I didn't end up ordering the wings. Needless to say I was very disappointed! Too expensive. $1.75/wing. OMG, and the only wing place without a wing night special. Maybe these prices would work in Toronto but i don't see them surviving.
