One of my favorite meals in a long time!!! Enjoyed absolutely everything here! The meats were all incredible -- tender, lovely char, so well seasoned. The friends platter had a little bit of most things and was also just a beautiful work of art. Loved loved loved the lamb chop and wish there we'd gotten more of that. I usually don't go for chicken but these chicken kebabs were so moist and flavorful. I loved too how fine the donair was shaved. The Ali Nazik was probably my favorite thing because of that garlicky buttery yogurt sauce that I just wanted to bathe all my meats in. The table loved the Lahmahcun so much that we got a second round. Super thin and crispy, and so so good eaten together with the onion, tomatoes, and lemon. And all the pita was so so pillowy soft! Also appreciated so much all the fresh veggies that accompanied everything so that it felt healthier. Great balance. Love love love. I'm visiting from Texas and heard that I must try this place! Let me tell you, it did not disappoint at all! I wish I took picture of the food but I was too excited to dig in. We got 2 mixed grill, 2 kabob plates, lahmacun and Adana plate. Everything was delicious and our server Milan's was phenomenal. He was sweet, attentive and had the best customer service. Finally, a Turkish restaurant in Calgary, and a really nice one too. I was so looking forward to try the food! First of all, the interior: This place is quite big with a high ceiling. They managed to design it in a way that it's is still cozy and comfortable. They have regular tables as well as booths for a bit more privacy, 100 seats in total. And a private room upstairs for 50 people. Great location to have a party at! The service was great; very attentive and hospitable. The food was good, although I was hoping for it to be even better. But mind you, my bar is set pretty high because I had awesome Turkish food both in Turkey and in Cologne, Germany. The menu is still relatively small, but they said they are still working on it and trying to figure out, what people would want (they opened not even a month ago). They also want to change the menu frequently. Not too many vegetarian dishes available on the currently. Meat is either chicken, lamb, or beef (halal). The meat just fell of the lamp shank, it was so soft and juicy. The lamp skewer was good. The pide was a bit dry, I am used to it having cheese on it as well. All dishes are very reasonable priced! The food could have been even more flavorful in my opinion, more spices. There wasn't even chili on the table which is usually very common. I also hoped to see a bigger variety of dishes on the menu, like Ciftlik Sac, Manti, Beyti, and more appetizer options. But again, they just started and are still working on the menu. I'm certainly coming back! You won't find any alcohol on the menu, but you can bring your own bottle and won't even be charged a corkage fee. That alone is a good reason to try this restaurant! Took a little trip to the Crossroads Flea Market last Sunday with a notion to try something new. I chose Anatolia and it was straight up next level delicious. I had a Lamb Shank with all the side's and my girl had the Chicken Kabob meal. Perfect amount of succulent char on her kabob and my Shank was literally drinkable it was so saucy & tender. The salads and bread were both super fresh and flavorful and we ate for $20.00. Can't beat that. Highly recommended from this guy. read more

First of all the location of this restaurant is really excellent, located right next to olympic Plaza in the heart of the city. The food is very good here, I came with my parents who lived in Turkey for 12 years. I had the eskender but I have to be honest: the sultans delight (one of the first items on the menu) is incredible and I highly recommend it. The desert and the appetizers were good too and definitely worth it. 4 stars over 5 stars just because it isn't the best Turkish food in the world but certainly the best I've had in calgary. read more

A beautiful restaurant in a very open space. Lavish vintage themed bulbs illuminate the space marvellously and the large columns in the way make it look so grand. However, kind of like an old ex girlfriend... it's very pretty and nice but doesn't meet your needs at all and leaves you begging for attention. Waited for one whole hour for our (very mediocre, cold and overpriced) food to be served. Turkish cuisine is my personal favourite and as someone who has travelled lots and eaten at Turkish restaurants in the Middle East & Europe, I was so disappointed that this is how other guests are being exposed to Turkish culture. 1/5 read more

Went there today at around 1:30 pm, the place was completely empty but after a long drive from Edmonton this is the first place we stumbled upon that seemed to have 3.5 stars and had decent pricing. When we walked in (3 in total) the place was completely empty but a gentleman approached us right away and sat us, I was a bit hesitant on staying but I had a horrible headache and just wanted to eat so we sat down (he asked if we wanted a booth,and, of course) he brought some waters like a few minutes after and we were all ready to order unfortunately he told us he doesn't speak English very well since he's a new comer but our server would be with us right away, he was just training. They came back after a couple of minutes (I was already a bit displeased since I was very hungry but I blame it all on that alone because they were actually really good to us) and we ordered and everything he said the food would be about 15 mins if that was okay? I said yes of course but I was sooo hungry. Food came after like 10 mins and we were pretty astonished it looked and smelled really good, the best part was tasting it lol it was quite tasty, I unfortunately don't remember the name of what I ordered but it was beef and cheese wrapped in some dough and it was amazing, the other two people ordered chicken Kebap and another plate which had eggplant mashed I believe it was also amazing it was our first time trying those dishes or Turkish good at all for the other two that were with me and we were very pleased with the taste, the server kept filling up our waters he was attentive but at the same time he didn't check in ya regularly which was totally okay with us since we were talking so much lol When we asked for the bill he brought us Turkish tea on the house and that was like the cherry on top of the cake, overall a really good experience and me and my friends will definitely be coming back there! This was the first time we tried Turkish food in Calgary. Honestly the food was very similar to many other traditional Mediterranean food except the dessert. We got the lamb with rice (which was very expensive) that tasted wonderful both in terms of flavor and the how the lamb was cooked. Although the lamb was cooked to perfection, the dish was very dry and we were struggling to finish it all. The mixed grill was delicious and less dry so we enjoyed that more even-though the quantity was not enough for even two people. For the appetizer we ordered this shrimp dip (almost like a salsa) that tasted good with pita bread. The place is very neat and clean with fancy decorations in the heart of downtown. Absolutely loved this place. Visited during off-peak hours so took advantage of the ambience. Ordered the Chicken Kepab meal and received some complimentary tea. Service was great and friendly. reasonably priced. Portion for a petite individual like myself was fair. Staff would more than welcoming and encouraged we took pictures. Was terribly dissapointed with the service. It was a busy night, however, it took 20 minutes to get a glass of water which was not refilled. We ordered the chicken kabob plate which comes with a salad but ours did not. We asked about the salad and did receive it AFTER we had finished our meal. The chicken was delicious but I won't be running back based on the dining experience. It should be noted the servers were all very friendly but the staff all seemed confused and disorganized. read more

I tried Anatolia a few weeks ago while passing by the Olympic Park. I was unconvinced at first as the restaurant was totally empty (lunchtime during weekend) but decided to give it a try and I'm glad I did. I tried their Mediterranean Salad which was fresh and good, the appetizer Lahmacun (looks like a pizza) - very good, and a stuffed eggplant -also very good. The spices are just right. Probably the worst buffet I've been too. They are cheap on putting meat out. Would not recommend it. Family members did not get any Kabab.

I guess I don't like Turkish food. I would probably give it a better rating if service was good but when you sit for anywhere from 5-10 minutes before you are given a menu in a near empty restaurant and another 10 minutes after you set the menu down before your order is taken and then when you finish your meal you are asked if you would like to have dessert or coffee and you answer yes and are ignored and forgotten (the 2 waiters were leaning at the bar directly behind me chatting away and my waiter never came back to offer me the dessert menu. The waiters never check on you to see if the meal is ok, don't come around to fill your water glass and never bother to see if there is anything you need. I started to wonder if it was because I was a woman dining alone but I watched and once they serve the meal you are pretty much left alone. I can forgive forgetting because it's very busy but when it's not really busy and I did say I wanted to order dessert and they just didn't bother... I eventually just turned around and asked for my bill. The food was basically non-descript. I was expecting more robust flavours or at least subtle and complex flavours but the flavour of the dish was basically salt and pepper and some tomato, maybe a hint of ginger, if there was more than that I couldn't tell. I had the Sultan's delight and the photo showed the meat sitting on a generous portion of creamy eggplant, I doubt if there was even a tablespoon worth on my plate, The best thing on the plate was the rice, perfectly cooked. The salad was ok too but hard to botch up a salad with lemon juice and oil dressing. I give them credit for serving the salad separately as my main arrived on a heated platter. There are several reviews from people who have more experience with Turkish food but I think if you have no experience then it would be better to try their take-out lunch or their location at the Crossroads Farmer's market, at least then you wouldn't be paying a much higher price for the food. read more

The lunch special is such a reasonable price for the amount of food you get, and you're in and out in less than an hour, making it ideal for a downtown lunch! I highly recommend it! Four of us went to dinner at Anatolia last night prior to seeing the Christmas Carol at Arts Common. You don't even have to go outside to enter the restaurant from Theatre Calgary. We were greeted by a super friendly gal, who seated in a lovely booth. She was attentive and made sure we had what we needed or wanted. We shared a Sarma (stuffed grape leaves) for an appetiser, which was refreshing and delicious. We each had a different kepab or meat dish, all of which were lovely. The pita that came with my dinner was so soft and tender, and left you wanting more. The Turkish coffee was fantastic. The baklava was different from any I've ever had. I didn't dislike it, but I prefer the crispy honey laced version. The restaurant doesn't have a liquor license, but that didn't worry us. If you do enjoy a bottle of wine or cocktails with dinner this may not be the place for you. We would definitely go to this restaurant again. read more

An update to my review from January. I was back with the same dining companions last week. No complaints about the food (although we weren't offered the complementary pide this time), but service was certainly bumpy. We had two servers, one of whom was very pleasant and attentive, but the other was distinctly cold and offhandish. He never even cracked a smile, and whenever we made a request, he would look irritated, and stalk off without giving any sort of verbal clue that he'd registered what we'd asked for (although, to be honest he would fulfill the request). When we were about 80% done our main courses, he started removing our plates and silverware -- we had to point out to him that we weren't done yet! We had high hopes for this restaurant. Great location and access to Arts Commons, some good reviews. The service was terrible. Our order was taken fairly promptly but the service thereafter was awful. One person in our party ordered a soda and 15 minutes later had to ask a different person for it. We were not offered water refills and other than the hummus, the food was mediocre. The rice was almost cold, meat was overdone. We asked for a menu to see the dessert options and it never came. We finally called the waitress over to remind her and she appeared annoyed and rattled the few choices off. When we asked for our bill we got the wrong one. We won't be returning and will not recommend this restaurant to others. read more

Food is okay - if they have what you want available. I work in the area so have tried to eat there a couple times and each time they are out of 75% of the menu items, which is weird because it's never busy. I came in with a group and the server was extremely rude to our whole table. He basically said we could only order the daily special and huffed and puffed when some of the people in the group didn't want to. We all got served at different times and and parts of the meal came at random. For instance, some people got their salads while others got their salad with dessert. We also had to ask for menus, which seems to insult the server and no one took beverage orders, they might only serve water as no other tables had beverages either. If the food was great I would consider it again but very bland food and the worst service I've seen in a very long time. So I was just about to review this amazing restaurant when I read a previous review from "T F". And it just so happens that I recognized that lady since I was dinning at the table right next to her and watched the whole scene. As I was reading her review I realised that she is not telling the whole story and it's only fair of me to tell what I witnessed. The restaurant was slammed yesterday and the waitress handled it awesome! Although the waitress was delightfull and everybody was having a great time, that particular lady was giving her a hard time and that's how I noticed and now recognized her. I also witnessed the waitress apologizing for the delayed menus and she ran to the kitchen bringing them 2 baklavas offered from the restaurant. Which they seemed to enjoy but she didn't mention that in her review. I personally had an amazing time there and I'm only referring to that incident cause I found it really unfair.
