Was always quite good and reasonable prices. Unfortunately, they have CLOSED DOWN their business as of 15 April 2019 after 35 years...

I think more than 20 years later, that article is still quite accurate. Shezan is together with Mumtaz (which are both very close to each other) my two favorite Indian food restaurants (so far) in Brussels. The menu at Shezan is quite ample and I believe has a mix of Indian and Pakistani specialties. The service is always great: knowledgeable, always smiling, caring but not pushy. Prices are excellent: in my opinion the best value you can get. The food is excellent. Some dishes are better accomplished than others (which I think is quite normal when the menu is so big) but in general the quality is always there. Consistent good food, this is one of the things I like the most about Shezan. The restaurant decoration is quite simple. The atmosphere is not romantic and I would say that is rather perfect for groups of friends or couples that one day feel not really cooking at home. Pets are welcome (even big dogs). The restaurant lights are very bright (to my taste). Do not hesitate to try Shezan. I vividly recommend it.

The ambience is cute with dim lighting and music. They start the table off with some papadum that is thin and crisp like a round big chip plus some chutney and sauces to dip it with. In ordering it was a task because of my parents. They are funny and they generally do not like chicken, instead like beef and fish. So I made sure to order beef seekh kabobs, plus mixed grills and saag paneer(spinach with cheese). We got our food but the beef kabob looked like chicken but in the dim lighting I wasn't sure, so I asked the server. They confirmed no it's beef. Then we tired it and we know how chicken tastes like. So then flagged down the server again and he got embarrassed and said they ran out of beef. I wish they were upfront about it from the beginning. They could have handled this situation better. At the end they were apologetic. But surprisingly my parents liked the chicken option and overall the food was really good. The naans were freshly made and great as well. The two servers at the end spoke to my parents about some authentic food variety etc. After the beef hiccup episode, this was a good experience. I would give them another try when visiting this city. It's always good to dine at the restaurant multiple times to get a feel for it.~

This particular neighborhood of Brussels has tons and tons of food options so if we didn't get a table the options are unlimited. Mumtaz is an old school restaurant with decor from the 1980s which has yet to be updated or changed. Being a small restaurant seating is limited so you manage what you got. The manager of the restaurant was from Lahore and he was making his best efforts but an improvement is required on that front. We specifically ordered beef seekh kebabs yet we got chicken seekh and when we checked with the server they said they ran out of beef so we gave you chicken. The food was pretty decent and the naans were tasty but management needs a rethink on how to run the kitchen and restaurant.

He did not call, or use the ordering app's chat function to ask for directions. After 20 minutes of delay I decided to call the restaurant, which kept insisting the delivery boy was at the address and then rudely disconnected the call half way through instead of giving me the contact details of the delivery boy or vice versa, my phone number to him. The food was sub par at best. Lots of unhealthy ingredients like artificial food coloring and corn flour were used to make the curry thick. The curry was also very sweet, without any spices, in contrast to what was described in the menu. The Biryani was also devoid of any taste, but only had a lot of oil. Even though the dishes were supposed to be made with chicken, they skimped heavily on the chicken, serving just colour water and colored rice. Overall, a very poor experience. Would not recommend this to anyone!

You have the refined food that is modified for the Western palate, you have Kashmiri, Goan etc... which is more authentic. I love both the modified & the traditional. This place offers the traditional form. Which doesn't involve cream sauces etc that you might be used to. The naan (do not call it naan bread, as you will be calling it bread bread) was thick, all the more perfect for using it to scoop up the great food. The Batar paneer was flavorful, just the right amount of spice to make it medium. A hot curry would have destroyed it. My wife got the tikka masala. It was mixed with coconut milk which made it into a cross between a masala & korma. It was tasty, but it lacked heat in her views. (Please note that she has such a tolerance for heat, that molten lava would be medium hot in her eyes:)) You get a side of rice with every dish. We wrongly believed another review that stated that the portion sizes were small... lies! The portion sizes were great for this fat American. Yeah we've just found our new Indian:)
