Great event space, art scene, and entrepreneurial incubator! I have been hearing a lot about the Anacostia Arts Center and finally came for a visit not fully knowing what to expect. I left energized and inspired! First, they had a DJ performing great music and while I am sure that is not always the case, it added to the scene. They had beautiful local art on the walls as well as a separate exhibit where you could purchase distinct art from a number of different artists. The bookstore had a great selection of books, bookmarks, and other items to inspire and motivate. There was a studio and event space as well as a second hand shop. It looks like they had a number of offices and co-working space for entrepreneurs. They also were hosting a number of workshops and community-building events. Moreover, there were a number of businesses and restaurants on the block and nearby which helps position the AAC at the heart of the community. I hope to be back for a future visit to catch events, workshops, and walk away energized. read more

I had to show strength by not visiting galleries D, F/G today lol However when I go back, they will be first on my list I was there to pick up Miss Cicely Tyson's most recent contribution to the world before she became or ancestor, Just As I Am from @mahoganybooks. I initially came here for the Yelp 10 Year Birthday Bash in 2014 and recently returned to check it out outside of the hype of an event (GREAT event space by the way). I came on a Saturday afternoon with my buddy who I grab dinner with every Tuesday. It wasn't crowded, which was a nice change from our usual always crowded spots (La Colombe, Maketto, Potter's House). Parking is always easy to find and there's many tables, outlets, and free wifi in the actual art gallery in the front of the center. In the very table, you have Nurish, a restaurant/coffee shop that brews La Colombe coffee. Nurish has it's own seating area, but if you want window seating, go to the front of the center. The center also has a handful of boutique clothing shops. I walked away from the Anacostia Arts Center enjoying my experience and thinking it has a lot of potential. read more

Came by for an 11th Street Bridge Park presentation. I learned a lot and am really excited for the project. I had previously visited Nubian Hueman, bought socks and soap and a few other items. On this visit I made it to The Den. I enjoyed it. They even sell records. I have yet to try the café. It was closed at 5:30 when I arrived. I will visit the next time I come to an 11th Street Bridge Park presentation (to make sure that I catch anything I may have missed, it was that informative) or just to visit. So, I was here about a week ago to get food. I guy stopped me and asked me to play Santa Claus for him because his original guy had backed out on him at the last minute. I was reluctant to do so; however, after seeing how desperate he looked and hearing his pleas, I agreed. He asked me to be there by noon on this past Saturday. I agreed, gave him my info, and he texted me immediately to confirm. I arrived at 11:59 and texted him that I was here. He never replied. After, 45 minutes, I left. His text confirmation is below. Harvey is very unprofessional and lacks great character and I'll NEVER attend anything at this center EVER again. Except Elife. The food is BOMB!!! If you're coming from Nats Stadium/Navy Yard, this place is right on the other side of the 11th street bridge. It's a neat center with lots of smaller rooms for various activities. We went here for Yelp's 10th anniversary bash. The smaller rooms probably didn't help this particular event, but I'm sure it does for other ones, especially if you want multiple activities going at the same time. Love this place! I have been here for a event and its really nice, JUST WHAT Anacostia needs! I also go every week for yoga class (first class free, every other class $5, can do bundle deals etc)! You can rent out rooms for your events also, the prices are very reasonable! So many cool things go on here! read more

What a great community asset! We stopped by here for brunch at the Cafe inside and were treated to a great meal and then a very nice, free jazz concert on our way out. This will be a great gateway to the community once the Bridge Park is done, too. read more

This space has so much potential to be a central hub for art, music, culture and most of all - community. I come here at least twice and sometimes 4 times a month to my Chiropractor's office. I've had positive, friendly and even welcoming interactions with some vendors in the space however, for the most part, people who run the space are NOT friendly or welcoming. read more

Also attended the 10th Anniversary of Yelp DC there. The arts center is spacious- an excellent venue for hosting an event, and just a 10 minute walk from the metro station. There are several boutique vendors in this space, and I will certainly be back. read more

Attended a well organized yelp event at the art gallery. Great vendors, great products, great mission. The cause was admirable, if you're serious about helping rural areas in DC, go to the gallery and support. Definitely a must do event if repeated in the future! read more

I love the Anacostia Arts Center space and feel that in general they are supportive of the Black Community in Anacostia. However Nurish Food and Drink treats the Black residents of Anacostia horribly. This is my experience: Do NOT eat at Nurish Food & Drink at Anacostia Arts Center. The owner Kera Carpenter refused to serve me the full menu, claiming she wasn't ready for lunch (she never told me when lunch started, nor is it posted any where on the menu or in her shop), yet when I go in for a glass of water, she not only attempted to charge me for a cup, (I ended up buying a coffee and scone, therefore I was a paying customer) but I noticed the white customers in the store were eating the full menu. She also kicked Black customers from the local women's shelter out of her cafe. If she can't treat people with respect then she doesn't need to be in Anacostia at all. Please share!!! read more

This is such a great space for the community! There is a cafe, art on the walls, a black box theater, an art gallery space, and a few cool stores. They have great events, some with live music or film screenings. It's easy to just jump over the 11th St. Bridge and join in the fun! read more

This is a very nice building with many rooms. Looks new inside or renovated. Also went there for the Yelp Bash and I was impressed to find how nice it was inside while the area surrounding it is not the greatest. Lots of space - including two floors with about 8 or more separate rooms/areas on each floor, and another building addition next door - accessible from the street. read more
