High quality establishment, the one downfall is that it's located in a sketchy neighborhood and the trains are always late

It wasn't the best experience of my life. I am still very tired while writing this. The Floridian line of the Amtrak is, as I now know, always very, very late. As it was scheduled to leave the station at 3am, I woke up very early to get to this station on time. All the services were closed (very unfortunate) and me and dozens of others waited in the bare waiting room on uncomfortable seats for over and hour and a half before finally boarding at 4:30am. At least this station in particular was clean and the waiting room was open and the signage was well lit from the outside. 3 stars for the building and services and 2 stars for Amtrak itself. The staff on the train itself was very professional and good at their jobs so there's that. I wish there was a rule against people talking so dang loud the whole ride as 99% of us were trying to sleep!! Only gonna do this again in the case of last resort... like I had to this time.

Holy Crap! What a life saver! DTW (Detroit) might be one of the longest airport terminals I've…read morebeen in. It's about 1 mile from end-to-end (yeah, google it). When I arrived, I didn't take the tram and headed toward baggage claim and it seemed like forever until I got to the center where the exit is. Flying out, I was more smarter after sitting in Vino Volo for a bit, the tram was close by and I made it to Gate 72 within a few minutes with a lot less walking. Definitely a good idea after wining it up. Pay attention as there are only 3 stops so look at the signs to see where you're going next in order to avoid the surprise of a long walk (or run if you're in a hurry to make a connection). Thankfully, the designers of the DTW airport included this Tram. This Tram gets a Stamp of approval... a Tram Stamp!

As I'm a loyal Delta flier, I've connected here in Detroit over 70 times since 2007. Sometimes, the arrival gate is near the departure gate. Sometimes, it is not. When CLT-DTW arrives at A4 and DTW-DEN departs at A74, you've got two choices: walk or ride. The walk will take about 10 or 12 minutes from end to end (if you use the slidewalks and they're not blocked by idiots). Or you can take the tram between the South Station, the Terminal Station and the North Station. The Express Tram was the first tram to run *inside* the terminal. Most other airports that have a tram operate underneath or outside. This one is entirely inside the terminal and not in a tunnel! Also, it's basically a horizonal elevator. The trams are pulled by cables and they ride on an air cushion like hovercraft! [Review 19016 overall - 378 in Michigan - 2540 of 2022.]

The station…read morehas an interesting history but it is hard to explore it as most of the signs are weathered and difficult to read. But if you can catch a ride on one of the trains it truly is a rare lifetime experience. However, finding the station is tricky, although the site clearly states it's located on Ridge Rd. there are no signs labeling the street at either entrance/exit. If you're coming from Kent you'll want to look for 2 bridges ( one has brightly colored paintings at the base & a sign that reads "hotel parking") & drive around the curve to find free parking. If you're coming from the Northside District near Lock 15, it's directly behind the Northside Marketplace. For the most part, the station is clean and the staff are informative & welcoming. They have a basic knowledge of what's available in the area and can provide you with a number of local activities. However, this station only has porta potty's that are locked during the off hours (the ticket agent explained this is due to vandalism by the locals) & are often disgusting! The trash cans are often overflowing & there's not always enough parking. If you can, DO NOT park on the side under the bridges near the woods!!!! There are homeless people camping there. Also, another disadvantage is that there is no indoor seating or signs directing you to the right car to get on. Although there are volunteers, there were two similar trains running on 10/20 & no one knew which on to board...too much confusion & not enough organization!

Admission was $5 per person, and kids 5 and under were free. The volunteers were friendly and shared a brief but interesting history of the lighthouse and how it's been used over the years. Once inside, be ready for a bit of a climb as there are 77 narrow spiral steps leading up to an outdoor observation area. The view is worth it to see beautiful sights of Lake Erie. Even if it's not that clear of a day, you can still see Cedar Point and the Lake Erie islands in the distance. The park itself is very well maintained and offers easy access to the shoreline while still feeling safe and family-friendly. It's a peaceful place to sit, relax, and enjoy the lake breeze and sounds. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

I have witnessed quite a few wedding pictures being taken there over the years.
