Nate and I had a fun Put-in-Bay adventure, starting with our ride over on the Miller Ferry. It was pretty easy to reserve a ticket online ahead of time, but in the off season I don't think you really need to. Once you park in one of the free parking lots, you walk a bit to the dock and get your QR code scanned for a ticket to walk on the ferry. They also take cars, but I think a lot of visitors just rent golf carts on the island like we did. We did use the bathroom facilities before getting on the ferry and they were clean. Be sure to check the schedule of timing, especially for the off season, because the trips aren't as frequent and the last ferry back to the mainland is earlier than during the busy season! The ferry ride was so fun and super smooth and only about 15-20 minutes. There was a cute gift shop on the PIB side where we got a sticker to remember our fun time on the island! read more

I've been on ferries all over the country and internationally. Having to pay for both the car and every person in the car is unusual. Never encountered that before. When I inquired with the older woman at the ticket gate to clarify she was incredibly rude. It was completely unnecessary since her entire job is to sit at the window to answer questions and serve the customers . It was nearly 100$ for two people to visit the island. Honestly ridiculous & an outrageous price for what was offered. The guy directing traffic was rude & snippy too. Traveling thru Ohio and had no idea how RUDE people are here. If u want to be spoken to like you're an inconvenience by the people who are working there and then get scammed out of a pretty penny... this is the place for u I don't even believe in leaving bad reviews but this experience really ruined the HUGE excitement we had to be here and enjoy the ferry/ island. Took the Miller Ferry over to Put-in-Bay and had a great experience. Round trip was $18 per person... super reasonable. The ride itself was quick, smooth, and easy. There's seating upstairs if you want the view, but we stayed on the first level and it was just fine. Nothing fancy, but it was exactly what we needed -- efficient and stress-free. Just wanted to give you the lowdown on parking and getting to the island! Parking's free, but it's a short walk maybe a couple of blocks from where you park to the ferry. Don't worry, ferries run pretty frequently, about every half hour, but you can check the exact schedule on their website if you want to plan ahead, or just grab it when you get there. You can buy tickets right at the ferry terminal. And guess what? You can even take your car over! There might be a few rules about when you can bring it back, so keep an eye out for that info. On the ferry itself, cars board first, then everyone else. Plenty of seats, but there's also room to stand if you prefer. Rode the Miller Ferry twice recently to get to and from South Bass Island. Buying tickets was simple and both trips went off without a hitch. The boarding/deboarding process is fairly quick and they have the process working efficiently. We were hoping to take our car with us to the island and return the same day, but they said that's not an option on weekends. So we rented a golf cart on the island instead. Renting the golf cart added to the cost of the trip significantly, but I can understand their rationale for doing so. I am happy that this service runs daily and they have many boats in service. Parking at Miller's can be a challenge but we were able to find a spot in the main lot this time. The process of getting on and off the ferry was easy. We walked on and off. They have multiple large free parking lots within walking distance of the dock, making it easy to board as a pedestrian. The trip over went well. There was a small enclosed area on the first level where we could sit with our dog during the ride (pets are not allowed upstairs). The ferry left on time and had a very orderly exit. The return trip was miserable. You wait in an area at the bottom of the hill and there are hundreds of biting flies. People were spraying insect repellent like crazy which created a somewhat toxic environment. I wish I could say it got better once we were on the ferry but it did not. The return ferry did not have an enclosed sitting area so there were a lot of customers standing next to cars and trucks for the return trip. Several people asked the men working there if the flies are a common problem and they said that they are a horrible problem. I hope that they add large fans to this area to assist with this problem so their customers have a good experience with their company. read more

As a family we had a great ride over to South Bass Island and Put-in-Bay. Ferry is reliable, clean and with family friendly staff; we traveled on a Monday during the main summer vacation time and it was not crowded or overfilled at all; can't say anything about the weekend. read more

Easy breezy and efficient. We took thr Ferry from the mainland to Middle Bass Island. We booked 2 weeks in advance as they do not book out further than 2 weeks ahead. You pay when you arrive. They have a solid system in place with clearly marked lanes and plenty of staff directing people. We were taking our vehicle onto the ferry. This was a very simple process, you can tell these folks know what they are doing. We arrive at Middle Bass about 35 mins later and the deboarding process was quick also. Round trip from 2 people and a vehicle was $93. Not bad. If you are just walking onto the ferry you don't need a reservation. You can also bring your bike or dog. You may get wet so plan for that! read more

They have this whole ferry thing down pat. Miller ferries people, bikes and vehicles. Tickets for people may be purchased online. Vehicle tickets must be purchased in person. During times of high volume visitation to the islands they will only ferry over cars for those who are staying overnight, or who live on the islands. Proof of your stay may be required. (Vehicle tickets do not include the people riding in the car. Additional tickets must be purchased for them as well.) If you are only going for the day, you may park in one of their lots, and travel over without a car. It is about a 2 mile walk from where the ferry docks at Put-In-Bay to say The Boardwalk restaurant. There are many places to rent golf carts and bikes between the dock and town. The ride is appropriately 20 minutes. Vehicles board and disembark first. Our wait to board while going to Put-In-Bay was approximately 15 minutes. Our wait to board coming back to the mainland was about 50 minutes. There is no way to gauge how long the wait will be. read more

This ferry even though they say they run on the hour seems to have a ferry coming every half an hour which is wonderful. At the end of the day I stopped at the restrooms and left my purse hanging in the handicap stall. I had been to the bank earlier that day and meant to leave the cash at home. I had over $1000 in my purse. All my ID, all my credit cards, and gift cards etc. I am happy to say that one of the Miller Ferry employees found it and put it in there safe for me. I was able to contact the police who were able to get my purse after hours so that I could come back and pick it up and not wait until the next day. read more

Although kind of expensive it was a very quick ride approximately 20 minutes or so each way. Also offers spectacular views to and from put in bay. It cost us about 60 dollars round trip for two people and our suv. We only went over to visit for the day and we had a great time. The folks at Miller Ferry are some of the nicest around. We used the ferry to ride individually from Port Clinton to Put-in-Bay on a Friday. We left around 10:30 am and then took the ferry back to Port Clinton around 5 pm. It took about 18 minutes each way. It was an easy on and off, and best of all I didn't get motion sickness once. We sat in the passenger area upstairs (which is covered) and had a great, relaxing view. All the waiting areas are covered (in case it rains) and it's an easy process to park, grab tickets, and board the ferry. Parking at Miller Ferry is free, or you can opt to take your car over on the ferry. There is a military discount available as well! read more

This is your cheapest option to get to Put in Bay. $7 bucks/each way and a cool 15 minute ride You can take your car for about $14/each way I think but unless you aren't staying near 'downtown' area you don't need it. Makes it harder for pedestrians to cross streets and there's not alot of places to park. Cabs are $3 anyplace you want to go on the island. Ferries leave about every 15 minutes or so and check this out. Several free parking lots. I went on a random Tuesday and yeah I did have to circle around and around for about 20 minutes to find a free parking spot. Since I was staying on the island overnight it was worth me missing the first ferry. You can go upstairs to the observation deck or stand down in the shade with the cars. (There are a few fold up chairs downstairs) I had luggage so I stayed downstairs. Cars on first and off first. They have the loading and unloading process down to a science. You will be on/off the ferry and at Put in Bay within 25 minutes. Best bang for your buck right here. You will need your bucks for the island read more

I have been on this ferry several times while traveling to Put In Bay. It is nice and clean and service has always been friendly. There is another ferry in the area but it is more expensive. If you need to leave your car there are lots of parking areas but some may charge you. You can also take your vehicle on the ferry. The ride is about 20 mins over and you can either stand in the bottom or there are seats on top. It's always been a pretty smooth ride. I definitely do not have any hesitations with using this ferry again. read more

Easy, fast, economical way to cross the lake. They run a tight ship, quite literally. Don't be discouraged if you see a long line-they move really fast. However, this guy needs a lesson in people skills. I get that they have to move fast, and directing a bunch of confused tourists to park tightly onto a ferry probably isn't a picnic, but this guy yelled at us. He condescended and scolded my husband for not turning his wheel enough, etc. He scolded, "We just had this conversation!" and we felt unnecessarily belittled and talked down to. If you are looking for a way to get to Put-In-Bay, I would definitely choose this route. The boat toots its horn and glides smoothly out of the port, I was surpassed that I didn't even notice we were moving until we were well away from land. The only downsides is that it leaves every half an hour so if you NEED to be somewhere at a certain time make sure you give yourself time, in case you miss the ferry (which i did). The ride is smooth over and you can rent a bike or golf cart after wards to get you to wherever you need to be, I prefer the golf cart! On the way back if you have a car, make sure to get there early or it might take you ages to get your car back over as there are only a limited amount of spaces. My biggest tip is if you look up make sure you close your mouth! I have never seen that many seagulls interested in a small boat before. I saw some people even get pooped on, but doesn't that mean you have good luck :) read more

My son and I just took a trip to Put-in-Bay island on 6/19/2018, and stayed there a couple of days. Miller's Ferry still appears to be the best way for us land-lubbers to get to PIB. It's a 20-minute ride from port to port, and costs $7 per person, each way. This time, I decided to take my car across with us. The cost was $17 each way, for a total of $34. I don't know for sure but this is probably cheaper than renting a golf cart on the island. Also, I had a bike rack on the back of my car, with two bicycles. I know from past experience that there is an extra fee to take bikes across, but this time, I was not charged extra. I assume this was because the bikes were on the back of my car, and not taking up additional space. So, that was a plus. Also, the crew were professional, glad to answer questions, and the boats appeared clean. Highly recommended. read more

A necessity to the island and a no-frills way to travel. The cars, vans, etc. are loaded and then the people. You can stand with the cars or go up on the observation deck. If you get seasick, be prepared; some Dramamine will help! You can bring a bike aboard and take it around the island. The trip is quick and scenic, if a little bumpy. Once at dockside, you can get a taxi to take you into town. It's too far to walk. The taxi will cost you $3 per person. read more

Always one of our favorite parts of going to Put in Bay on a nice day is the 20 minute ride on the Miller ferry. Its so peaceful and relaxing. Always a great view of the lake and all the boaters. There are plenty of parking options. You can park close and pay a small fee. Or for just a quick 5 minute walk you can park in the couple free lots they offer. The boats are always in great shape and very clean. The staff is friendly and very professional. Sure the jet express is fast, but its also over priced and takes away the enjoyment of the ride to the island. Millers will always be our choice for island transportation. read more
