Lunch. Scale of 1 to 10 taste wise? 4...
Peter I.

So I took Acela yesterday from Penn Station to Boston back bay. I was encouraged when I got to Penn Station and I saw the new lounge and I thought to myself. Wow Amtrak has really changed... Well, I was wrong. It's the same old Amtrak even Acela. Sad. Our hostess train attendant whatever they're called was Tracy and she could not have been more bored or unfriendly. She said things to me like I'll get to it when I get to it. Seriously I'm the one paying $400 for a train ride. So that's the service part, the actual ride is like your riding in the back of a pick up truck. Bumpy with a nice view. The food choices were OK, the drink choices made the trip doable lol. My only wish was that we folks that like trains had choices of other train brands. Like what if I could only fly one airline? I don't think anything will change in my lifetime, but I can dream.

I called Amtrak and they were running on-time and had room on the Acela in the late afternoon!

We purchased the VIP tickets after contacting them ahead of time to inquire about Military Discounts which they do offer. We also added drink tokens for $15/each. The VIP tickets help you avoid booking a specific time slot and skipping the line. We showed up Monday afternoon around 1:30. There was no line at all so if you're coming on a weekend and don't want to wait in line, maybe the VIP ticket would be more beneficial. They provide you a wrist band if you did purchase that ticket. Someone immediately greets you at the entrance with "Hey scoops!" And you wait in an area before the doors open to a room. Someone greets you there and tells you that you can pick your ice cream name before being released into the museum for your own self guided tour. We were given ice cream drumsticks, we were able to choose between the cookies and cream and strawberry options. The first trivia and information room had some interesting facts. Entering next into the aircraft room where you got to sit in a seat and are offered more ice cream - ourselves was an orange sherbet type while the "plane windows" showed a video simulation of pink clouds and ice cream etc. The fridge room was next where you could open doors and see interesting facts, short games or little small areas for children and this led into another family room with a big tv. There was a small kids walkway where you could go to show up on the tv as well. In this room, the shelves had some bells where you could ring for a sweet treat and there was also a "hidden" room with books. Funway Park was also neat and a cool game area that we enjoyed which we ended with a scoop of Caramel Apple Ice Cream and that ended the tour with a Deconstructed Ice Cream Lobster Roll and then into the bar area. Here you could get additional scoops of ice cream and drinks which we used our tokens for. I definitely recommend the Raspberry Espresso Martini - that was our favorite out of the 4 drinks we ordered in total (Guava Paloma, Breezy Shirley & Cherry on Top). To get to the Sprinkle Pool, you could either go down the slide or in an elevator. If you want to get into the sprinkle pool, shoes do need to come off. The gift shop had some small items and you get some pins for the VIP Ticket (we did have to ask if there was anything additional) Overall, I don't think the VIP ticket was worth the price and would have been fine with the general admission or flex ticket. Cool concept and definitely loved all the ice cream flavors and the unlimited ice creams. They also keep this museum very clean which is tough with ice cream and littles.

My niece and I had a really enjoyable time at this unique museum. Very fun, very interactive. Lots…read moreof pink everywhere you turn (even the men's restroom had pink walls ‍). Tickets for us were $41/each plus taxes. We went at 12pm on 4/22/26. It was busy but not too crowded where you couldn't even move. As soon as you go in you are offered ice cream. Then you go to the main room and they have an ice cream bar with regular ice cream, milkshakes, cocktails, mocktails, and more. They have some cool rooms to learn all about the history of ice cream. Interactive games and more ice cream treats await. I even rode the slide down to the exit area! The only ice cream that I tried that I didn't like was the lobster ice cream on the conveyor belt. The bread that came with it was great though! Will definitely do this again.

Amtrak recommends arriving 30 minutes before your scheduled train and it was my first time using…read moreAmtrak, and my first time to Route 128 Station. Exit the highway, drive past the parking garage and turn left onto Blue Hill Drive, and take the left on in where it says "Amtrak/MBTA Pick-up & Drop off". Either entrance at the end will work. While the left side is more direct and closer to the Amtrak counter, the right side will take you past the Dunkin Donuts. There's a waiting area, the bathrooms are by the elevator, and only two tracks. 1 is outbound, and 2 heads into Boston. Simple. Start heading out when they announce that your train is arriving, about 8 min in advance. Head towards the right if you are Coach bound. Take a seat and the conductor will scan your ticket code and tuck a paper ticket above you. Take it with you if you change seats. If you go past NYC, the crew changes, and every passenger gets scanned again. If you are ADA and need access to one of their accessible seats, there's a way to mention it when buying your ticket, so the conductor will save you a seat in advance. Two bathrooms are available at one end of the Coach car. If the light is on, the bathroom is taken and the door locked. These are roomier than those on airplanes. So are the seats, although they otherwise resemble those found in planes with the tables that fold down and seats that recline back. 120 volt plugs are available, but no screens and no headset jacks, so no music. Stops are announced, so it felt that communication was pretty good on the train and at the station. Coming back and arriving on track 2, we had to exit and head up and over the tracks, where we could go straight into the garage, or take the escalator down by Dunkin Donuts. There's an elevator as well, which will take you to the bathrooms.

The parking lot is huge and quite affordable at $15.00 a day. There are also cans downstairs and an area for buses. Truthfully, better than going into South Station for the train.

Coming from Los Angeles where I live with transportation that's struggling, Boston's system is a breath of fresh air. Not perfect, there are some delays and a bit of confusion - I'd get over it fast if I'd live there! But it's reliable, comes fast, takes you everywhere in the city, great connections. You can take it to and from the Airport (Logan) which it's a major plus! Pretty fast and easy. It is the oldest in USA (Bolyston station has a small nice museum inside, very cool!), so many stops don't have AC, but they have fans. Staff- some folks nice and helpful, some just OK. Not the cleanest, a tad squeaky, but it extends to ferry lines as well. A few nitpicks, but a solid transportation system that takes you everywhere. Love the lines that take you above ground. I got a pass on a Charlie Card and I used it a lot during my Boston visit. My husband lived here in college and told me it's still has the same smell. Nothing bad for him.
