Extremely poor service, and Kaare--who I believe is the owner--clearly does not care. Earlier comments about condescension now make sense. If I could give zero stars, I would. I ordered wine to be shipped to Atlanta, which was supposed to go out in October. They said it shipped, but I never received it. I had to reach out to them myself, and I received no explanation or apology. They eventually told me they'd have to reassemble the order and ship it again. I was assured that everything would be fine because they still had the requested wines and vintages. Then I got a call from Sabrina, letting me know that one of the wines was no longer available. She asked if that was acceptable to substitute an alternate similar wine, and I said fine. I'm a wine collector and study wine, so vintages matter to me--even if this wasn't an order of grand cru wines. The total order was $399.08, so not extravagant, but still important to me. The first time they charged me $57 for shipping. When they finally shipped the wine in January, the charge was $75. When I pointed out that this was unfair--since I had never received the original shipment and had to chase them to make it right--I was told, essentially, "we're not in charge of shipping." That's what I was told. Regardless, that response is in poor taste, especially since I had to reach out multiple times, by phone and email just to get the wine I never received. Good customer service would have meant honoring the original shipping charge--even if they had to absorb a few dollars. On top of that, they substituted two vintages, despite my order explicitly specifying which vintages I had requested. When I brought this up with Kaare, the owner, and explained that most wine buyers would not appreciate a vintage substitution--especially after all that had already gone wrong--his response was: "These aren't expensive wines. You should just drink them and enjoy them." That's not what I call customer service. To me, this is the equivalent of going to a restaurant, ordering a prime filet mignon, and being served something else--without being told. Maybe the substitute is good too, but I should be informed ahead of time and given the option to decline. That's basic respect for the customer. What made me really unhappy is that I sent multiple emails to the business--one week after delivery, then again a month later, then two months later--and never got a response. I left message with the staff to call me back and no return call occurred. Is that good customer service? From a customer's standpoint, it's not even about the wine anymore--it's about the principle of responding, of caring, of doing something to make it right. I would have been satisfied with something as simple as a $20 credit on the increased shipping charge. But no credit, no apology, and no acknowledgment that they substituted wines I never agreed to receive. In hindsight, I should have simply demanded they take the wine back when I received the incorrect order. But I didn't realize I was dealing with a business that treats its customers this way. Buyer beware! They will respond to this email but all the facts have been presented and any defense on their part will be whitewashing how a customer is treated. This small store packs a punch. Well utilized floor space with ample selection. The employees are helpful, yet not overbearing. Giving great selections based on your preference and price range. Will visit again, wish I had a shop like this local to me. read more

I've been here a handful of times over the past few years, and I've never not regretted it. The wine is middling - good selections are overpriced, and reasonably priced bottles are a good 3rd too expensive for what they are. For $18-25, I think you should be able to get an interesting, exciting bottle of wine. We have been coming by the shop now and again for the last year or so. The selection is really interesting, but the real stars are the employees. They know their wine, love their wine, and have a genuine interest in what you like, what you are looking for, and always offer a very interesting alternative. 3x now we have walked out with a staff suggestion that completely improved the quality of our wine life. Yesterday we walked in looking for one of our usual wines, a young fruit forward italian red, and walked out with a Sicilian orange wine that blew our expectations out of the water. On a search for Orange Wine. I know, we had never heard of it either. Our Sarah has been thoroughly researching and learning about wine. She hasn't been able to find a bottle. We walked in and asked the lovely proprietor if he has any and he pointed out his "Orange Wine Shelf." WOW.... We wanted to surprise Sarah, so we asked which he'd recommend. He was gracious to give a short explanation and and I loved that he picked out a few for us to try. You could tell how much he loves wine and he didn't pick the expensive bottles for our first try. At the desk, I noticed the largest bottle of Silver Oak I have ever seen. It comes in nice wood presentation box. He offered to deliver it if we'd like it. Will save something for next time. He has everything you could ever imagine for a wine lover. Oh, the Orange Wine....I thought it would taste like sweet oranges. It turns out its pretty much like white wine. Love this little wine shop. Its smaller size is a plus, it makes the place easier to absorb and less intimidating than a giant wine shop. They stock good stuff and they'll rarely steer you wrong. Aside from a regular selection, they set aside a nice small selection of wines under $15. They also have some good quality kosher wines, and fancy liquors. Thumbs up. read more

As others have said here - really rude staff. It takes a special skill to make your only customer in the store, who hasn't asked for your help with anything, feel like they're bothering you for having the audicty to... you know, buy somthing. There are almost as many wine stores in this area as their are nail salons, use your freedom of choice and go somewhere else. read more

I'm pretty sure the UWS already has the most wine shops per capita of any neighborhood in the free world, but this is still a very welcome addition, as it specializes in small-batch and artisanal bottles that will intrigue even the most seasoned lush. I've been pretty impressed with the $15-$20 wines we've tried so far, and we've also picked up a few nice bottles of spirits from little-known distilleries. To the extent this store is offering spirits found elsewhere, the prices are usually about 10% higher, so that costs 'em a star, but otherwise pretty much perfect. read more

Nice wine shop on the upper west side near Trader Joe's. Its a bustling area and this place is a nice find. Great selection and very knowlegable associates who have answers based on what you're having for dinner and what to recommend. If you're on a budget, there is a lot to chose from in the $12 - 18 range. Prices are aligned with other wine shops in the city and I will be returning here. A great spot for sure. read more

Pretty disappointed in the customer service here. I used to go in about weekly and the employees used to be very friendly, jump up to help me, actually listen to what I had to say and give me quick, spot on recommendations, run off to get me a chilled bottle, and welcome me into the wine tasting if it was going on. They used to genuinely be the great, cute, neighborhood spot they claim to be. For the last maybe 5+ times I've gone, the employees just sit there talking to each other and don't help besides a lazy hello. I'm pretty upset because I used to love this place. I would stop going here except they're so conveniently located off the 1,2,3. This place needs to either get back to helping customers or stop touting themselves as friendly, knowledgeable upper west side spot. read more

Since the trader joes across the street doesnt have a wine store (and many frequent TJ's customers like myself want to get wine at the same time as our groceries), this place is in an ideal location. The staff is very knowledgable about their wines and willing to find something in your price range. Amsterdam Wine Co is my favorite new wine store! Located steps from Trader Joe's near the 72nd street subway station (#1,2,3 lines), Amsterdam Wine Co is a gem of a store. You'll have no trouble finding a great bottle of wine for under 20$ at this store. The selection is highly curated -- they select out the best wines for you so you don't have to do the work. Don't underestimate this place. It's a small store but t's packed with great wines from all over the world. I've bought several wines from them. The 2015 Petillant White Frizzante wine from Spain is a great value & priced under 20$. It's very effervescent, crisp & refreshing with grapefruit/ citrus notes. It's a nice change from Champagne or Prosecco. I like wine stores that offer good values & high quality. There are some very interesting wines to be found here & the free Friday night tastings are a great way to end the week! They also offer a 10% discount if you purchase a case of wine. read more

Great service and selection. I used Amsterdam to get gifts for all the folks in my office. They wrapped and put a note on each bottle and delivered the cases to my office. I'm upset I didn't turn around & walk right out!!!! We walked in and there were 2 guys at the desk carrying on a conversation b/w them & not once did they acknowledge us. A simple "hello, how are you this evening?" goes a long way. While we were perusing the selection not once was help offered. Also, a simple "are you looking for anything specific?" Or even " let me know if you guys need any assistance." goes a long way! None of that, not an acknowledgement that we were in their store, not a single word spoken until we checked out. After the transaction was complete, not a thank you, have a good night, nope we got "you're all set" & that was that. Amsterdam Wines is a beautiful "boutique" wine & liquor store . Though not nearly as large as the other stores in the neighborhood, they have definitely impressed me with the quality of their products, the generosity and respect and knowledge of their staff, and their overall treatment of me and every other customer. They stay open later than the other stores, which is a huge convenience if you want to buy something after 9:00pm, have tastings that are later so that someone like me who doesn't have a 9-5 job can attend, and they valued me enough to put me in their computer and list the wines I liked from the tastings and have bought, so that I wouldn't have to "remember" them. They always have a nice little price card in front of the bottles they are sampling. Talk about a class act! I have, so far, enjoyed and been extremely happy with their tastings,the wine that I have bought, their courtesy, their friendliness, professionalism and knowledge. And, they always greet me with a smile. read more

Great little wine shop. Went in there looking for liquor, which they only have a small selection of, specifically I was looking for peppermint schnapps which they did not have, but I was going to buy Tito's and the man behind the counter suggested I try another vodka which was also made with potato and half the price. I appreciate when a sales person doesn't try to push you to buy something for the price. It's more of a wine shop and they actually had a tasting and I was able to try a sweet Pino Grigio which was pretty good. I'd recommend this place if you're interested in wine, they staff seems very knowledgable and the prices were fair. read more

If you want a neighborhood store, Amsterdam Wine Co. offers a great choice. A variety of wines and the staff always offers to help. Kind staff that is sincere and not pushy. Many interesting options including wines from Croatia, Georgia (from the Caucus region--not the southern part of the US), Hungary and other places in addition to the more typical wine places such as France, California, Spain, etc. Wine tastings on certain days of the week. But Amsterdam has a very friendly and knowledgable staff that I can explore different bottles. They seem to understand what I want for the night and give me the perfect choice. read more
