Booked a couple of nights here for my first trip to Amsterdam. Since I didn't know much about this…read moreplace, I wanted to keep my commitment to it low so I could mosey if it wasn't doing it for me. I ended up remaining for the length of my stay. They gave me the same rate (€65) for the additional nights as well. The room was totes Euro...smallish, well-styled, efficient and light on the extras. It did have a safe, TV and free wifi so I was pretty content. Dutch TV does at least carry at least some programs in English, which is helpful when you want to zone out to something familiar. German TV was less accomodating, I found out later. Typical. I want to say it was fairly quiet although I think whoever was staying upstairs from me was getting their Fred Astaire on in wooden clogs a couple of mornings. Seriously, WTF were you doing up there? Other than that, I was pretty much undisturbed. Free Euro breakfast in the morning including individual packets of Nutella and "pinderkaas", which is really peanut butter but it translates as "peanut cheese" which is wrong on a number of levels. It's situated pretty well to getting to a number of Amsterdam's best sights, as well as the more residential neighborhood of Jordaan, which has a pretty decent grocery store (Albert Heijn) so you can eat a bit on the cheaper tip on the reg. There are plenty of other boutiquey places and cafes nearby. It's a good 20 minute walk from Centraal train station but it's a lovely walk. I'd definitely consider staying here again when next in town, provided that money is something of an object.

About…read morea month prior to the trip, we received an email from Jasper and Vera stating that they would be doing some repairs to the roof and would no longer be able to accommodate us during our trip BUT they did have room in their other location, B&B Quartier Neuf. We very much enjoyed our stay. Jasper was attentive and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and even delivered it early one day so that we could get to Keukenhof when they opened. Though I did not see Eelhouse personally, and B&B Quartier Neuf does not have a Yelp page, I am confident giving this B&B five stars because of Vera and Jasper and their excellent service.

The location is a little bit of a walk from the main attractions but just a short ride away by public transportation. And, honestly, it's a bit intense in the city center with hen and stag parties and just throngs of drunk tourists (think Bourbon St in NOLA) so it was nice to step away when I was done for the evening. There are plenty of good food options in the immediate surroundings and plenty more in the area around it. Everything was clear and easy with regards to booking, checking in and checking out. I don't generally need a lot of hand-holding and don't like to interact with staff more than necessary but I felt like they were available if I needed them to be. My room was on the first floor which is fine as it's a flat city (and country) so there isn't much to see with regard to a view. It was also outside of a conference room that was never in use during my stay and it didn't bother me at all. If anything I felt like I had more privacy back there. I noticed other commenters talked about having no AC... it's May and was quite warm while I was there (mid-70's) - I like a cool room at night and I was totally fine. It was also insanely quiet, if that matters to you. They have American plugs! I'm traveling elsewhere in Europe so I brought a converter/adaptor, but if I were only staying in Amsterdam, it would have been nice to know I didn't need to pack anything extra. I'd stay again!

Hotel manager sent me this response... "Seeing the circumstances, we are willing to make an exception for you on the non-refundable conditions. We will KEEP THE FULL AMOUNT, however, 70% of this amount may be used for a future reservation with us. The 30% will be kept as administration/cancellation costs. This credit will only be usable for a reservation made on our own website (www.atrainhotel.com) with an arrival date before 02-09-2025. Please let us know if you would like to take this offer." This is the only offer they were willing to make when I had to cancel a reservation FOUR WEEKS in advance. Buyer beware. If this is how they treat a cancellation, you can bet they are waiting to gouge you every chance they get.

It almost feels like home. They have a huge common room, which is cozy and inviting. You could just spend plenty of time in the common room, and never see Amsterdam. Just kidding. Dennis is the owner and he has a great staff that help their guests. I got off from Tram 9 at the Waterlooplein stop and was lost. Also, I wasn't dressed warmly enough, so I thought I was going to die. One of Dennis' staff, Brent, was so nice to just pick me up where I was. Now, that is customer service. The rooms are basic, with twin bed, a TV and a sink in the room. There is also a safe in every room. You will have shared bathrooms and showers, but that is pretty standard across Europe. Breakfast is included, but nothing much for the vegetarian. They will however cook you eggs any way you want. Some other wonderful amenities, if you plan to stay here: Free coffee until 11pm every night (in the winter, this is a blessing) Kitchen to cook your food Fridge to store your perishables in the common room Free Wifi that works well in all rooms An excellent tourist guide in the lobby (Get Lost in Amsterdam) Bike rentals (15€ per day) Snack machine (which vends beer) Large TV in the common room (if that is your thing) Smoking allowed in rooms Free towels, just ask Hair blow dryer (if you ask) Tram 9, 10, 14 all close by. In the room there is a one little sink , king size bed ( per 2 person ), one TV and a little wardrobe for your clothes. Room was really clean and warm. Showers and toilet were shared with others but they were always clean. Also the prices changes around (40 to 30) if you can find a special price from booking or another web site. Also there is wifi which can be really important ! Breakfast was really nice too. Also, staff is really helpful to us too. I really recommend. And return back for sure !
