Eel House was perfect for my wife and me on our recent visit to beautiful Amsterdam. It is located in the heart of the Jordaan, a wonderful residential neighborhood full of great shops, cafes, and restaurants. From there you can walk to just about anywhere you want to go. A bountiful breakfast was brought to our room each morning by our friendly hostess. From the room we could hear the tolling bells of Westerkerk. There's a school playground across the street that added to the charming, homey, local feel of the place. Eel House is small -- only three rooms -- and like many Amsterdam residences, maximum use is made of the available space. The stairs are typical for Amsterdam, narrow and winding, but that presented no problem for us. The house was built in 1619, and the sense of history in the building and in the general neighborhood is palpable. That's exactly to our taste. For those similarly inclined, I recommend Eel House highly! read more
