I made a snap decision on a shingle color from a small sample while talking to the TLC rep for ten minutes and have regretted that decision ever since. The TLC rep made no mention of researching the color selection so it is up to the customer to do so. To be fair the roof job went very well. All of the TLC employees were friendly, professional & showed good workmanship. I would recommend TLC to anyone but would caution them on their shingle color selection.

It felt quite manipulative that a couple of hours after we agreed on the price and extent of repairs, 'Johnny' called to say that he felt it best to replace the whole roof. This meant way more money, way more time, and taking off shingles that there's nothing wrong with them - 80-90% of the roof would've lasted another 20-30 years. He hinted that he would no longer be willing to do the job unless I agreed to have the whole roof replaced. Then, during FULL ROOF REPLACEMENT, the Mexican guys who work for him drilled a big hole in the ceiling, through the drywall; and then they dropped a big crowbar tool through the skylight, gouging a couple holes in the hardwood floor. When I told him about these incidents, his charming demeanor was gone - he looked doubtful, repeatedly asked if I was sure the hole wasn't there before, and clearly didn't want to be responsible for dealing with it. The ceiling drywall had to be repainted, which was a whole thing, because they used shiny instead of matte paint; then the color was wrong so they had to paint a couple of walls... and instead of having their most proficient guys do it, they were using the opportunity to teach their younger guys to paint - so it was a mess, and I strongly felt I needed to oversee them working and make corrections, or they'd damage something else. (Like getting paint on the floors, windows, and trim). I was quite busy with other things around this time and didn't enjoy having to do this. The damage to the floor was not fixed to satisfaction, (they had no idea what to do) but at that point I just wanted them all out of the house. After everything, I had to remind Johnny multiple times to send the warranty... Finally, as a side note: it is not super professional to - (in front of the customer - during a job) - act annoyed at or even argue with your WIFE , on the phone, when she calls. Just sayin'.

Joe came out, took a look what was going on, and gave me an estimate that was identical in scope but half the price of another estimate we received so we opted to go with Eames and Sons. Joe was fantastic to work with and kept me up-to-date on scheduling of the entire process, from dropping off a trailer for the old roofing materials, dropping off the new materials, the actual day of work, etc. The Eames and Sons crew came out, did the work in a single day, and then Joe came out the next day for an inspection. Joe noticed some of the work wasn't up to the Eames and Sons standards, so he had someone from the crew come back out and redo it and then came back out the same day to check on the work again. I also noticed that some of the mortar between bricks near some of the work seemed to now be missing and he came back out on his own time to fill in the gap. Eames and Sons, and specifically Joe, definitely went out of their way to make sure our roof was perfect and that I no longer needed to worry about the leak we found. This was a fantastic experience, and I would definitely recommend others use Eames and Sons for their roofing needs. EDIT: I noticed some damage to a window screen after the dump trailer was moved away. Joe fixed the screen himself and sent someone else out to take care of some of the metal around the window as well. Eames and Sons has gone above and beyond what I expected and they have set a very high bar for any work that gets done around our house in the future.

I was asked if there would be a significant other attending sales pitch meeting and I politely indicated I'm a single mom and will make the final decision myself. Yet, I understood the reason behind the inquiry and had no problems with it. The sales guy was straight to the point didn't really try to sell me the product just provided information regarding the product and answered questions I had accordingly. Which I was grateful for! He let me know that there would be about an 8-week fabrication Lead time which I was fine with. The windows did end up ready for installation within that time frame. Empire graciously set the installation date according to my schedule. And I can't rave enough about the three person team who came out and completed the install. Dave and his crew were on time, addressed my concern about placing down floor protection- which they had already anticipated. They were knowledgeable with the product and how to install the windows and the back patio door. Hard consistent workers, there was no downtime during the install. the framework after the bay window was removed was done very professionally and looks amazing.
