We wanted something different for Valentine's Day and the idea of Italian/Portuguese intrigued me. It's East of downtown in a strip mall with plenty of parking. You get a warm feeling when you walk in. We were seated and ordered wine and the salted cod fritters as an appetizer. The presentation was nice and I enjoyed the taste. I loved the bread they served as well, Portuguese I presume. Iordered the chicken parm as my entree and my wife, the octopus. Both dishes were polished off and we had no room for dessert. Service was professional and clean silverware was exchanged each time. As we were finishing, a piano player started playing which added to the ambiance. Fantastic knowledgeable and friendly service! Wonderful decor with great live music - piano. You can sit close or further away depending on your mood. We chose about mid-way so we could still hear/enjoy but talk, as well, without distracting anyone. The Sarasota Summer 3-course menu is still available- great value. The Cesar Salad was really good - served in a crispy fried cheese bowl - NOT greasy at all, added good crunch and flavor. The cod fritters and shrimp and corn soup were very well received. The pasta bolognese was excellent. The chicken parmigiana was also excellent and liked by all. The custard pastry desert was a perfect ending to the whole meal. read more

Has a nice atmosphere with a lady playing piano, except the menu is not really as Italian as it should be, nor the Portuguese menu have too many choices. I think there should be more choices, typical Italian like stuffed shells, manicotti etc. and tastier Portuguese and not so bland. AGAIN...Somewhat of a short menu, food was a bit bland...and pricey for what you get. Will not be going back. read more

Reconnected after a few years with Lianna and Tito at their Lime Ave spot having frequented both their previous locales on Longboat Key and Burns Court. They have significantly increased their Portuguese menu as well as maintaining their core Italian menu. Had a great meal and enjoyed the piano player. Food was plentiful and well-prepared. We were adventurous and tried their Portuguese entrees, including Cataplana Alantejana and Bacalhau a Bras. The Fireman Chourico was a sausage grilled at the table. All wonderful and full of flavor. Our favorite dessert, Pastel de Nata was incredible. We were so impressed, we immediately made a reservation for a party of 18 ROMEOS (Retired Old Men Eating Out) who absolutely enjoyed the experience. (Not an easily pleased group!) 3 stars for nice food and service. If Yelp offered stars for individual items I would give the salted cod 5, the fritters were delicious, a first in Sarasota. I would go back only for these. The pappardelle with bolognese sauce was tasty, the pasta was too thick, should have been served piping hot though, but the flavor was great, huge portion. Loved this hidden gem restaurant. Everything from our bottle of Sauvignon Blanc to the Portuguese Egg Custards we had for dessert was amazing. Veal piccata was delicious cooked to perfection along with a mixed vegetables that were also cooked perfectly ambience was beyond anything I've seen around here in a long time soft piano music with a female vocalist throughout our dinner. The food is very good. Our server was nice, but as the evening wore on - things became a little testy. We came in for a "late night dinner" - 8:30PM which can be a hit or miss depending on the area, but being downtown, places should expect to be busier as the evening progresses. This is a bit of an unassuming place, but as soon as you step in, it feels cozy and I love the outdoor seating - bar is large enough and they have misters/fans going to keep you cool (as well as a few tvs to keep you entertained). They have an inside and upstairs, but I prefer to be on the main level and outside. The Carpaccio app was so good - fantastic quality of meat and salad/avocado. I could eat that all day long. It was hard to stop eating the bread and caponata as well. We got the mussels app too - it was ok, but definitely not spectacular (side note - have had mussels in a few places in Sarasota and not impressed to date - not sure where these are coming from but not up to par in general so this isn't a knock on Amore). The Drinks are fabulous here and by the time we got apps/drinks and ordered food - it was probably close to 9:15 or so and we ordered our main meal. Clearly by that time, the kitchen was either annoyed that we were one of the last meals or something cause the person who served it to us (wasn't the server) - maybe someone from the back literally came to the table and dropped the plate with a thud. Asked if we wanted cheese and haphazardly scooped some on. The Carbonara was delicious, but we sensed an annoyance from him by being there so late. Just strange. But whatever, we still really like this place and would recommend it. read more

When we moved here several years ago, we were very pleased with the variety and quality of the restaurants, from Ophelia's and Indigenous, to the small cafes like Rick's on Siesta Dr, and Fiorella, to Chayhana Vostok (and who would have thought to find an Uzbekistan restaurant in Sarasota?). Another great find, is Amore on Lime Ave. A very pretty restaurant, with great ambiance. The service is knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. Liane, the owner, and Laura, our server, make us very welcome. The Wine list had a nice selection of whites and reds by the glass. We had the Savor Sarasota special, which they will run through December, I believe. We both had the soup of the day, potato with bacon. The chunks of potatoes were tender, but not mushy, the bacon crisp and smoky, with a cream base. My husband had the Pork a Trasmontana, pork tenderloin tournedos, and Pastel de Nata for dessert. I had Bacalhau Ribateljano, a salted cod casserole served with potatoes and boiled eggs, and Tiramisu for dessert. I can't come up with a single complaint! We stumbled upon Amore and glad we did because we had a wonderful evening. There were a lot of people dining in the outdoor /covered area but they were able to give us a table for 4. It was our server's first night and she was great ! I ordered the risotto/shrimp-scallops special and it was fabulous. They make some of the salads and desserts table side which is fun! We ordered bananas foster for dessert and that was prepared table side . It was very good. There was a piano player and it created a nice energy in the room. At one point a couple got up and began to dance . It was sweet . I hope to get the opportunity to return! read more

Food and service was good though pricey. We had ceasers salad prepared at the table. Quite an experience and very tasty, pricey but large portion for each of us. My wife had lasagna and my entree was gnocchi. Both were quite good. My gnocchi had sausage (excellent) and mushrooms (not too good, They were chewy and stiff with NO flavor). The lasagna was very good and really got the spot. Both portions were large and easily shared, wish we would have done so but we enjoyed what we had and took large servings home for later enjoyment I ended with a cappuccino which was good but a Very small serving, more the size of a double expresso vs a cappuccino We enjoyed the evening and as I said service was good. Only disappointment was an $80 bill for a shared salad and 2 entrees, no alcohol. read more

We visited a couple of times before when they were still on Longboat Key and liked it there. A while ago Amore moved to downtown Sarasota. The location is nice and easy to find. The restaurant is a bit less classy than the Longboat one and no A/C. There is an early bird menu for $27. 6 appetizer options, 6 main courses and 3 dessert options. I had the mussels with garlic, capers and white or red wine. A very nice starter, very tasteful. For my main course I had the pasta with shrimp a diavolo. A nice size serving with a great tomato sauce, 5 huge shrimp and parmesan cheese. Too bad the shrimp still have their tails on. You have to dig into the tomato sauce to eat the shrimp and clean your fingers every time. My dessert was tiramisu. Nice flavor but a little soggy. All in all a decent meal for a decent price. We were recommended this restaurant by a friend but sadly it didn't meet our expectations. Dark dining area with older decor. We sat next to the kitchen so we were able to see many of the dishes being served . We attempted to order a cocktail but were sadly informed they only sold beer and wine . We skipped appetizers and headed right for the grouper and beef F mignon. Fresh rolls were brought to us hot while we waited . Our meals look beautiful on our plate but unfortunately we're not seasoned well . The grouper was very fishy to taste , my husband took two bites and couldn't eat it . The beef mignon was overly salted , thick sauce that hid my not so tender steak . Potatoes were the best part of our meal . The waitress checked on us and when telling her it was really fishy she said sorry but didn't offer to have them remake it or suggest ordering another item . Located in the former Gold Star luncheonette, Amore moved 3 years ago from Burns Court. The Pineapple Ave. location had several issues and Covid didn't help. The new space is warm and friendly. The service was top notch and the pleasant live music added just the right touch. The menu is half Portuguese and half Italian. The authentic offerings in both are not to be missed. I would have given five stars except that when I inquired, I learned that the evening's special veal offering used a formed veal patty rather than fresh veal. A correctable error I would hope. We order one dish from each side of the menu. Don't miss the Amore shrimp and lobster. All of the Portuguese specialties were very good. Preparation and presentation were sparking. The largely open kitchen was a nice touch. The lobster bisque was a super starter and a "cup" was what other places call a bowl. It was the best I have had in Sarasota. We had an hour and a half wait for Owens and no room at their bar so we meandered over to Amore - thank goodness! We had the most romantic night and best, most memorable meal! Thanks to Elena, the bartender, for explaining the Portuguese part of the menu - the amazing seafood copper pot in broth ($56 for 2?? Lobster, shrimp, scallops, calamari... wow!) A lovely Frenchman was playing guitar, singing and cajoling the diners to dance while the owner was bringing special Portuguese wine... it was like a dream. Just the very best night in Sarasota and we ate at the best restaurants all week. Oh, and order the creme brulee! Thank you, Amore! And did I mention how reasonably priced the meal was? Dinner tonight was very good. I had the lamb shank , cooked to perfection, with roasted potatoes and mixed vegetables. My wife had the rice dish, I can't spell with mixed seafood, with shrimp, scallops, clams and mussels . A Portuguese dish, She said it was great. We had the salt cod appetizer which also was good. For dessert I had another Portuguese dish of pistachio cream with a layer of cake and cream-wonderful. My wife had tiramisu also very good. The service was spot on. The are entrances on two sides and she on the third telling you to enter at either of the other two. As you enter you'll see a covered outdoor room that seems to be the entirety of the restaurant. There are ceiling fans aplenty. There is a live band playing dinner music. Once seated the servers are attentive. But wait! There's more! If you follow the signs you discover a second indoor room complete with folded mirrors, fancy chandelier and air conditioning. Also a full bar is nested in this secret room. The menu is standard orientation fare, a little on the pricy side but not crazy. The servings are generous and it's clear that the kitchen cares what they're putting out. There is a well considered wine list with something for everyone over a range of prices. We finished our evening with a shot of Limoncello. Would definitely return. read more
