13 months after signing a contract to build (May 2020) we had to move on and hire another pool contractor to finish our pool. Amore will say they "intended" to finish our pool but the reality is they HOPE clients will "fire" them and move on so they keep our money. We had paid 85%+ of our contract (per their draw schedule) and still had many unfinished items like deck, splitface, tile, ALL pool equipment, electrical, plaster, etc. Every week Chrystal and Brian would reassure us "they were coming this week"... our equipment would be installed "tomorrow" but for weeks and months these installations never materialized. They would send their employees 1-2 times a month to do minimal work (ie. fix a pvc pipe they broke, install a waterfall, ) but the items that really COST $$ and were left unfinished. Before moving on to another contractor (at a significant expense) I asked for proof that our materials were "ordered" or in their warehouse since they had told us it was. That proof never came. They use the excuse of "covid" and "lack of materials" to push back jobs but the reality is 12 hours after hiring the new contractor all the pool equipment, tile, travertine was in my patio being installed. Plaster was available at the warehouse and is on schedule for install this week (9 days after signing with new pool company). Materials ARE available for those contractors that pay their BILLS. Sure, some have delays but that is why I HIRED a company to schedule and order materials accordingly as needed. After all I paid 40% of my contract by the time the permit was ready for pickup so that $$ was already in their account. I am sure nothing is 13 months BEHIND schedule. If you are interested in a pool contractor that WILL EVENTUALLY finish your pool, go ahead hire AMORE. Part of it is our mistake, taking you at your word and believing that the missing pieces couldn't be done until a later time (wait for inspections, sealing gets done at the end, etc). The purpose of this review is to inform consumers of MY experience. Take me at my word or don't, just do your due diligence. We knew of other "past" customers with beautiful pools finished by AMORE which is why we didn't do a simple google search on the owners specifically or a permit search to confirm we would be swimming in "3-4 months". One year later when they still had not completed I was forced to fire them and complete the work myself. I am still dealing with a major drainage issue and expect it will cost me at least 25% more to get everything fixed and completed. BEWARE OF THEIR SCHEDULE OF PAYMENTS! They front load the job to put as much money in their pockets as possible before they are kicked off the job. Update 2/3/21, It's now been 3.5 months since my deposit and they still don't have a permit. Dropping by 1 star every new month that they don't start on my pool. UPDATE 4/20 Almost 6 months. Still no permit, but some advances have been made. UPDATE 5/10, no permit as far as I know. zero improvement to the project. They have until 5/31/21 to complete this project and change this review. UPDATE 5/21/21- It is now exactly 8 (10/21/20) months since I allowed this company to take $12,500 from me and 6 weeks since I allowed them to take another $10,000(4/6/21). The pool is exactly the same as the picture I posted months ago, ZERO improvements. I confirmed today with the City of PSL that the permit they finally obtained for this build, can't even get inspections because they are missing the "As Built Patio Survey". I spoke to the companies Legal Officer/Director Chrystal m Washburn today, who said it could be another 4 MONTHS from this point to finish my pool. That's 12-13 MONTHS since they took my $12,500 and 6-7 MONTHS since they took an additional $10,000. On signed a contract with them on 11-24-2020 and they did not apply for all necessary permits until 6/11/2021 and the permit failed plans review on 6/25/2021. On 28 June 2021 I got a copy of the failure notice, the permit application and the property survey from Port Saint Lucie Building Permit Department. I discovered that the size of the pool on the contract did not match the size that was on the pool permit application and the lication of the spa on the property survey showed on the south east side of the pool and I requested it to be on the south west side of the pool. I fired them on 29 June 2021 for no work done in 7.5 months and now they refuse to refund the 25% deposit ($14,750) that paid them on 11/24/2021. On 6/08/21, after finding out that they have a ton of unfinished pools, failed inspections and many unsatisfied customers, I canceled my contract and requested my money back. We got our pool done by them. I was a lil nerves because we had friends that used another local company and they started and it took them forever to come back and the guys were so creepy as well. So we used amore pools. Let me tell you they busted tail. Stuck with it till job was done and I think turned out prettier than we even expected. If anyone is looking to build a pool now or in the future, I do not recommend hiring Amore Pools out of fort pierce. I really wanted to like this company, small, local, and family-owned all the things you look for when you're wanting to spend money and keep it in the community. Unfortunately, it's been a horrible experience from the beginning and yet I consider myself to be in a better predicament than some of their other customers. In my opinion, they're more than likely running a scam on people, but for the sake of those still involved with them, I'm hoping that they're just really bad at business management. Hopefully, they're able to turn things around and make amends to any customers that have had to hire other contractors to finish/fix their mistakes and also help out those who have ended up with liens on their homes due to unpaid subcontractors bills. Please do your research and if you have someone older in your life who is currently building a pool please get involved, it breaks my heart to know of people who have had to take out of their retirement accounts to finish their dream. I generally don't like to write negative reviews but I want to put this out there as I know that I would have liked to have found all this info out when I first started, and here's to hoping it can help someone else from making the same costly mistakes. Call your county building department and the also neighboring counties and ask about open permits and how many have been closed, also how long it's taking them to close. Check the business and the owner too in sunbiz, BBB and buildzoom also it wouldn't hurt to interview current and previous customers. When signing a contract make sure that the estimated length of the project and completion date are clearly listed. Also check all of your inspections, engineering plans, and permits on your own. It's all public info and as the owner, you have a right to access it.
