Getting a stinky tofu at a gas station wasn't on my go-to list. But Amore Eats reminds me of night market street foods in Taiwan. A surprising place to find Taiwanese food. A Yelp search of Taiwanese led me to the inside of a gas station convenience store for an afternoon snack. The "restaurant" area occupies half the store with a little indoor seating. I got the lu rou fan, which came in a decent portion. The woman at the counter was nice and it only took a few minutes for it to come out. I would have ordered pork chop or the beef noodle soup if I had a bigger appetite. I am very curious about the stinky hotpot. Amore Eats is perfect for a quick bite or grabbing something on the go. Doesn't look like much, because it's inside the ExxonMobil gas station. Hard metal chairs and wobbly tables, but that doesn't take anything away from the excellence of the food. The pork buns (4 pieces to a serving) were perfect. The meat was moist and fall-apart tender. Braised to perfection with Chinese spices and soy sauce. There was just the right amount of pickled sour mustard and crushed peanut to enhance the meat. Wrapped in a soft, white rice bun that held everything together while you ate it with your fingers. The Taiwanese Beef Noodles has oodles of meat and tendon that was stewed to perfection. Tender and flavorful. Broth and noodles were also on-point. It's counter service, and buss your own table, but they will serve if they are not too busy. And they came out and wiped the table after we cleared, and thanked us for doing it. read more

A hole in the wall Taiwanese restaurant located inside the Liberty gas station. It reminds me of many places I visited in Taiwan. They just opened and they are working out the kinks so be patient with them. Seems like a family operation with their kids doing most of the cooking. They get slammed with too many online orders so If you come in to order take out be prepared to wait. Also, they ran out of their more popular dishes already by noon. Granted it was their first weekend of operation so it will improve with time. We ordered several dishes. The crispy chicken was soggy by the time we got back home. Ten minutes in the air fryer salvaged this. It was very flavorful, tender and crispy. That and the Taiwanese rice noodles were my favorite dishes. The lo bah png barely had any meat sauce but the flavor was there. I am sure they skimped on the meat sauce due to how slammed they were. The version at A&J and Taipei Cafe is much better. Also, the fried noodle with beef was just okay. Noodles were really soggy. Not sure what part of this dish was fried. It didn't look anything like the picture from their menu. Glad their is another Taiwanese place in Rockville, but I would wait couple more weeks while they get everything going. read more

Who knew that a small restaurant inside a gas station convenience store would fill the large, Taiwan-shaped hole in my heart? They serve the best Taiwanese food in the area, second to none. I was able to easily find parking at the gas station and walked inside the store, where there is one large table and some countertop seating. I felt immediate nostalgia when the person who took my order spoke both Mandarin and Taiwanese. The two of us got the braised pork belly rice (niu rou fan) and their stewed pork rice bento box, which ended up being $20 for everything. This is INCREDIBLY well-priced, especially for the area, and the food came out super quickly. Everything also tasted like an amazing warm authentic home-cooked meal! The pork belly slices were so tender and melted in my mouth, and the tofu in the bento box was juicy after being marinated in the most amazing sauce. Really delicious and homey comfort Taiwanese food! I'm so happy this restaurant is here. We ordered online with Google and picked it up w/no problem. For two people, we ate everything we ordered: pork chop rice bento box (which came with 2 sides of tomato egg and tofu), popcorn chicken, braised pork rice, and taiwanese sausage w/sticky rice. Everything tasted great and didn't taste overly seasoned or oily like some restaurant food can be (tastes good in the moment but regrets later...). We finished all the food and didn't feel overly stuffed. Prices were reasonable too. It was the best popcorn chicken we've had in Rockville! Rockville has so much great food, even its gas stations are culinary destinations. Amore Eats is located in an Exxon gas station near the intersection of Rockville Pike and Rollins Ave, and they pump out (sorry) some great Taiwanese food. The amount of things offered here can be overwhelming, with four main sections designated by letter - section A (appetizer-y things), section B (bento boxes), and T and S (no idea). I grabbed my usual order (Too Much) recently, and here goes: (A14) Taiwanese sausages in sticky rice - an absolute mess to eat (though that's most things, given my level of coordination), like a hot dog with a bun made of glutenous sticky rice and herbs, drizzled with a sweet sauce that has the consistency and hand-stick-to-ive-ness of honey. The blend of flavors was distinctive, nice blend of sweet and mild spices. Good, worth a try. (A13) Taiwanese meatballs - a house specialty, made with ground pork, bamboo, and mushrooms in a sticky dough made of rice and doused in a sweet chili tomato sauce. Just cutting into this is a fun experience - the rice dough holds together incredibly well and holds a whole bunch of deliciousness inside. Really good, and not something I've seen on other menus. (B4) Popcorn chicken bento box - the box is fun and a good way to try several flavors (pickled radish, braised pork, two additional vegetable sides, some sweet Taiwanese sausage), but the chicken itself was only okay. Then again, I'm partial to Jumbo Jumbo's version slightly father down 355, so I'm biased here. (T5) leek dumplings - very nice size and amount, perfect for sharing. The wrappers are well steamed and hold up without being either too thick or glue-y, well seasoned interiors, very flavorful and would get again. Amore Eats is located in an Exxon gas station but don't be fooled by its unassuming exterior! They serve the MOST authentic Taiwanese cuisine in the DMV area I can find to date! You order on a tablet. There are a few tables and some barstools if you want to dine in. Water is self serviced. The stinky tofu sure smells stinky but it tastes amazing especially when you dip it in the sauce or have a bite with the pickled cabbage on the side. The popcorn chicken is tender and not too greasy. I know it's the real deal when I saw the coating (just the same as what I grew up eating in Taiwan) and the basil pieces. The bento boxes are huge! This place is a HIDDEN GEM! I've made several to-go orders and I am consistently impressed with the food. Amore Eats has easily become my new favorite Taiwanese food place in the area. The beef noodle soup is amazing. Doesn't leave you with an oil sheen on your lips like some *other* places. The beef is tender and generously portioned while the vegetables are crunchy and fresh. The stewed pork rice is served on a bed of fresh rice and two side dishes that change on different days. Lastly, the Taiwan burger consists of marinated pork slightly sweetened with brown sugar and served on four bao buns. Just a note for any allergies - the Taiwan burger does contain peanuts. In addition to the great food, the service here is impeccable. You can tell from the moment you walk through the door that this is a family business and it really does show in the quality of food that is prepared. Amore Eats is no-frills and presented us with richly flavored Taiwanese food. We had sticky rice with shrimp topped with very fresh cilantro and the bento box with pork cutlet fried perfectly. This gas station Taiwanese joint that use to be the home of Corned Beef King, is knocking it out of the park! I'm not Taiwanese, nor have I ever been to Taiwan, but I've eaten from some of the best Taiwanese restaurants in the area and this one just tastes more authentic than all the others. You can also see by all the reviews by people from Taiwan that this reminds them of home, and I can see why. I can also tell you that this restaurant is consistent because this is my second time here and it's been several months since I last went. The stinky tofu is outstanding. It's really what made me come back because I haven't stopped thinking about it since... And now, I feel like going to get it again after last night's meal! Their popcorn chicken is one of the best versions around. I got it as a bento box and it came with Chinese sausage and pickled mustard greens over rice, and what seemed like pork belly, along with two side veggies. It was all very tasty. I enjoyed their beef noodle soup even more than A&J's and Shanghai Taste's version, and both of those are also very good. There's a few seats in the restaurant, but not much ambiance at all since after all, it's an old gas station in desperate need of remodeling. I took it home to go and was all packaged very well. Located inside a gas station, this unassuming shop has some of the best Taiwanese eats around the area. For two, we ordered a Lu Rou fan and one of their noodles. A brand new Taiwanese addition to Rockville, Amore Eats is actually located in the food mart of a gas station on Rockville Pike. You're going to have to really look for it to find it since it's not a standalone restaurant or in a traditional shopping center. Ordered the Beef Noodle Soup, Taiwan Rice Noodle, Popcorn Chicken, Stinky Tofu, and Taiwan Sausage in Sticky Rice. All were really good and had very authentic Taiwanese taste. The Beef Noodle Soup was especially good. Stinky Tofu is comparable to TP Cafe level; the dipping sauce that comes with it added to the flavor. Popcorn Chicken had good flavor, nicely fried, and is kind of a non-spicy version of the one at Jumbo Jumbo. Not sure if I could have requested a spicier level on it. Taiwan sausage in sticky rice was very tasty but the size/portion was a bit small for the menu price. Taiwan Rice Noodle portion was generous. Overall it's great to have another Taiwanese option. For the time being, they are still getting their efficiency together so they correctly suggest that you call in your order first otherwise food could take 30 or so minutes to prepare. Also there's maybe two tables with total seating for 8-10 seats (max) so it's definitely more meant for takeout. Will be back soon to try other items! read more

I was feeling homesick for a simple meal with good balance, and Amore Eats made it all better. Authentically Taiwanese, the flavor and combinations were spot on. We ordered a few things online for pickup; one of our original items was unavailable and the owners called immediately to let us know. We ended up getting stewed pork rice bento, beef noodle soup, and sakura shrimp cabbage. All of the dishes tasted like what I would get at a local family restaurant in Taiwan - the meat was flavorful and not overcooked, the sides of the bento were lovely, and the cabbage with shrimp... super southern Taiwanese. Nothing was overly oily or salty. I'm glad that this is now an option in Rockville. To me, this is the most authentically Taiwanese flavor in town! At first I was weary with it being within a gas station but the place was very welcoming and smelled amazing and the family sitting down eating helped welcome me in more. They really were enjoying their food and constantly commented on how good the food was! I ordered the Taiwanese burger which was a 4 piece pork bun set, braised pork noodles and beef noodles to share with a friend. There was so much to choose from. The Taiwanese burger was my absolute favorite of my choices. The pork cut was thick but tender and juicy and the combination of the sauerkraut and sauces was just amazing. Nestled in a gas station, this restaurant specializes in Taiwanese food. It's a bit pricy but overall, the food is good. My wife and I ordered the stinky tofu, chicken popcorn, stir-fried rice noodles, and the intestine vermicelli. I really like the interesting vermicelli but everything else was okay. It's in a gas station, which is always promising. I had a great meal here with my family. Fried stinky tofu was delicately crispy with a nice flavor and soft interior. Gwa bao, apparently also known as "Taiwanese Hamburger" for some reason, come four to an order. The meat is fatty and the peanut chunks are well balanced against the pickled veggies and sauce. I usually dislike ba wans but their rendition was very good, with a medium-thickness, squishy-but-not-"slimy" skin and well seasoned contents. My only knock is that the braised pork rice, while containing deliciously fatty and juicy meat - unlike almost every other place which serves ground or minimally fatty pork with the dish - was a bit on the light side in flavor. All in all, a fine meal and I will certainly go again. read more

Really impressive Taiwanese street food-type entry into the area. I've had every Taiwanese food eatery in the area and this one beats them all in terms of tasting authentic and not (yet) adjusted for American palette preferences. Having been here twice already, I have been able to sample a lot of their items and imo their best item the beef noodle soup, which was sufficiently spicy and flavorful soup paired with tender beef. I also enjoyed their braised pork rice/滷肉飯 very much; the style is on the lighter side and might not be salty enough for some but it really did the trick for me where it didn't feel overly soy sauced but still had a rich flavor. The chicken leg was also very good and very reminiscent flavor-wise of the chicken leg at Taiwan Bear House in New York City, for anyone who has explored the Taiwanese food options in NYC. Amore also has a hot-plate style black pepper dish that you can pick either steak or chicken for, with a black pepper mushroom sauce which is a rarity in this area. The first time I had it it came with a noodle which wasn't quite spaghetti and it became mushy rather quickly; the second time I visited I had said noodle replaced with rice and it was a much better complement, resembling a Cantonese-style black pepper 飯盒. As someone who loves Chinese-style black pepper sauce and has had many terrible ones in the DMV, its a pleasant and welcome surprise that Amore has a good one. The popcorn chicken tasted better on my second visit; on the first visit it tasted indistinguishable from other Taiwanese popcorn chickens in the vicinity but the second time it tasted much better seasoned for some reason, without being overfried or too hard of texture. The interior of the store has limited seating and there is no wall separating the resturaunt from the gas station convenience store. Don't let that deter you though, because what Amore lacks in decor it more than makes up for in authentic night market-style taste. read more

Amazing!! We've been meaning to try this place out for a while and yesterday was the day. We got the popcorn chicken tray, the beef noodle soup and the braised pork bowl- we couldn't pick a favorite. The beef in the soup looked like it was going to be tough but was surprisingly so, so tender. The braised pork had just the right hint of sweetness and the popcorn chicken was so well seasoned. We also loved all the small side everything came with (we think it was pickled veggies). Online ordering was easy and service was friendly when we picked up our take out.
