Not sure why it was as good as it was, except that it was fresh and didn't have a bunch of extra toppings or "accoutrement" she didn't want. Even though this is clearly a very local establishment, they were friendly to us, and the bathroom was clean. We ended up buying some other supplies from the convenience store section, saving a stop. This is the only market in Trinity County where I appreciate what I get for my dollar. They carry a great, well-rounded selection of product, at prices that are competitive in surrounding cities. (Cheaper than Co-op Humboldt, but doesn't have Reddings mega-chain presence of Trader Joe's). Being a farm-centered community, it is super great to have a spot that I can pick up local organic fare year round. Whoever does the ordering/purchasing has the touch, because in dozens of trips, I've never gotten a spoiled berry, melon, or squash. They opened up a deli counter! Just experienced this! My amigos & I opted for dinner from the Family Dairy Store (aka Hayfork Dairy) one night when the fire camp was offering Shrimp Scampi for dinner. Sorry USFS, some things are meant to be eaten in a sit-down restaurant & not a cafeteria/buffet outdoor camping ambiance. The two employee gals we ran across at the Family Dairy were bad ass!! They were pleasant, welcoming, and more than glad to explain how to order our chow. Their patience was only second to the awesomeness of the sandwiches my peers and I ingested. BBQ brisket on a roll with BBQ sauce/nacho-cheese dipping sauce. Holy mother of gawd, WOW. BBQ sauce & nacho cheese may sound line an affront to decency, but it was life changing. I can't do justice to how well that sammie gut bomb made the whole day right. I was all too happy to return the favor by throwing more money at them for some bottles of the local craft beers to take back to camp. My sole complaint is living 4 1/2 hours away from a repeat of that sandwich (review edited/re-posted after Yelp thought police removed the original after it'd been up for four years).
