Fabulous gift shop selling good from local artists…read more I have to admit I underestimated this shop from the outside. I had walked past it countless times walking up and down 23rd, but finally decided to stop in when I was looking for a gift for my partner's mom. I was not disappointed, and this shop has something for everyone, not just middle aged moms. Not only did I find the perfect gift and card, I bought a few things to take home for myself. The quality and craftsmanship of the items here is really impressive. From the paper quilled greeting cards, to the pottery, to the hand carved wooded fountain pens, I was in awe at the level of talent displayed in this store. It's really well decorated (with emphasis on the current season) and there is eye candy everywhere you look. I really wish I had taken more pictures because the two I took just do not do this place justice. My favorite part of the store was the "toppings bar", a cute little nook filled with ribbons and cute gift tags to add the perfect finishing touch to any wrap job. Bottom line: If you are looking for a gift, or just something festive for your holiday decor or table setting, this is a great place to consider.

This store is pretty great if you are looking for a quality made thing though it will set you back…read more It is a bit towards the bougie side of things though, I won't lie - there were quite a few items I would love to own... best example was about $300 for this 'fruit bowl' that was formulated various sized wood balls structured together (I captured a photo)... I have never seen anything like it and genuinely, if your are like me and like to keep a pear, a few apples and an orange on hand but want them to last - this is not only amazing looking but perfect!! I did purchase a few smaller items. The first was a felt coaster which is so perfect! They have an array of different colors - my choice was a gorgeous burgundy and I loved being able to buy just one. I have coasters for guests which is a whole set but for my daily iced drink covered in condensation, this is so perfect. The card says they are made in Germany by a company called Parkhaus and how to care for and clean the coaster. The other item was a greeting card which I intend to frame. Vancouver Washington artist Claudia Moore makes the cards with foraged leaves and seeds. This is a great spot if you are looking for something unique as a gift or for your home. They also have some very nice cleaning solutions and bath products. There is a well thought, small selection of purses and bags.

I was thrilled to find out local ceramic artists Mary Carroll and Alexandria Cummings have joined forces to open Fine Things, a ceramics studio and home decor retail space. Their website mentions the retail space will eventually offer their own ceramics, as well as some of their favorite home goods. I can't wait to see this business bloom into a bustling hub for ceramic enthusiasts and artisans - it's just what the neighborhood needs! The studio offers a membership-based workspace for less than $250 a month, providing ceramicists with 24/7 access to a spacious and well-lighted environment equipped with shared tools and resources. The owners are hoping to create a collaborative community where artists can hone their craft and potentially build a following of their own. I haven't had an opportunity to speak with anyone who is using the space, but I am definitely intrigued. At this price... who knows? I might try my hand at becoming a ceramicist. I am such a huge fan of both Mary Carrol and Alexandria Cummings' work, and I can't wait to have a spot to purchase their work right in my neighborhood! Keep an eye out for their retail space, and contact the Fine Things if you are interested in renting production space. I believe they still have spots available.

Of course, on any given visit, there would be different local artist's works exhibited, and there's no guarantee that some or any works would appeal to me (or to anyone, on any given day. Art is so subjective, and the featured artists here change regularly). I was just lucky that I loved so many pieces of art when I visited. There are many things I loved about this gallery: they showcase a wide range of artistic works, from photographs to paintings to sculptures to glassworks to artisan hand-made jewelry and more. All the artists are local. All the art pieces are for sale. There is a huge range of prices for the works, so there really is something for any budget. (Note: when I was there, there were postcards and small prints with the featured photographer's works on them, and these were super reasonably priced). And best of all, you can often chat with the artists who are there! I loved the fact that the featured jewelry maker was there, and she talked about her inspirations and her artistic process. It was fascinating (and she was super talented - and nice to boot!). I love supporting local businesses and local artisans and artists, and this gallery checks all the boxes.
