Citizen Ruth is a cool little boutique selling art, jewelry, books, mugs, stickers, patches, tee shirts and more. The owner has put together an amazing assortment of gifts created by all women, including transgender and gender non binary. The store is described as a "feminist playground". But really there is something here for everyone. I found the cutest cat print that is now framed and hanging in my home. It's shown in my photos. The lady working here when I visited was very nice. She greeted me and offered to answer any questions I might have about the merchandise. Citizen Ruth is open every day from 11am-7:30pm. This store is definitely worth checking out and supporting.

This is one of the MOST DOPE shops I've ever been in. All the stuff is womxn and/or queer created. Tons of children's books focusing on inclusion, diverse voices, and underrepresented communities. Great for getting gifts for others (or yourself) while supporting a local business and local artists. I picked up children's books, jewelry, greeting cards, stickers, bandana, etc. (I wanted to buy the whole shop!!) Also, the shop has good COVID-19 protocols in place: masks required, hand sanitizer available, limit of 2 people or 1 family in the shop at a time. And Emily (one of the owners I think) was super awesome while I spent a lot of time browsing. I loved this boutique!!! Go here! Support local! Support BIPOC and Queer creators!

Jenn and their staff have been nothing but accommodating to myself, my friends and our business. We have gotten a lot of specific things from them (They even made me a product they didnt have in stock so I could gift it to a friend) Not only is their stuff eye catching, giggle worthy and really add flair to your desk or house. They give a percentage of every sale to the ORIGINAL artists in their collective. This is how we nurture and encourage those around us to create. I know Covid has hit their walk in sales but I promise its worth ordering online!! Maybe send a friend or two some gift packages to cheer them up while we distance and in the process support a brick and mortar business, its workers, its artists, the post office along the way. They are my #1 Queer and Black supporting business.

I stopped in here a couple weeks after moving to Portland, in February. I was wanting to get some Nasty Women GSDPDX th ings, and also picked up some awesome stickers. I loved how many cute and amazing pop culture gifts and trinkets there are, and how inclusive and pro-LGBTQ-BIPOC the store and employees are. I told the woman at the register that I had just moved and need to get involved and meet some friends, and she gave me her number and said she would love to be friends! It was super kind and really left an imprint on me about how great Portland is! I was also invited to bring my dogs along next time I shopped. I recommend this shop, and their awesome instagram, to a lot of my coworkers and friends from home, so they can shop online as well and support this great group of people. Thank you!

I love this shop. Cute and quirky with a comfortable vibe and a wonderful staff. We've been to their Drag Queen Story hour and Lulu (pictured) was so sweet and engaging with the kids. She hung out and chatted with my kids well after all the other families had gone. I've picked up books, coloring books, stickers, and mugs here. When Covid happened, I fell in love with one of their mugs with the quote: I'm trying very hard not to connect with people right now. I love the store's focus on the companies & artists behind who make the products they sell. The people who work here rock and it's a fun store to browse. So much of what they sell is made by small, individual artists or companies with a story. I try to give gifts that have a story that goes beyond that of mass consumption.

This shop is everything! My relationship with this company is four fold as a customer, a vendor, a buyer for my own shop and as a friend. I've been delighted to take home (and gift) socks, stickers, mugs, keychains, jewelry, T-shirt's, greeting cards and books. Their mission for social justice is 100% genuine and the work they do for our community is ALWAYS inspiring. They make me feel supported and proud to be a liberal feminist, the parent of a non-heteronormative child, a fledgling business owner and part of the correct side of what's happening in Portland right now. This town is blessed to have Citizen Ruth and I'd still feel that way even if I only knew them as a customer. Thank you to Jenn and Cara and staff for your heartfelt contributions to our homes and to society at large. We love you!!

A truly fantastic spot, run by amazing women! I love the vibe of their brick and mortar, a beautifully designed space, featuring incredibly creative artwork, all while highlighting female empowerment and embracing inclusion and diversity. I recommend this shop to all my friends and co-workers in Portland and they always send me thank you after for introducing them to this gem! Citizen Ruth is as epic as the namesake!!! ML

Had a great time perusing this entire store during my weekend trip. One of the owners, Jen I believe, was so friendly and helpful while my friends and I were commenting on all of the products. A lot of accessory stores feel like you could get the same thing somewhere else but the owners really did a great job at curating a collection of lines of products that have voices and stories. A really great experience. Jen helped me find a card for my friend's gay wedding that I was attending that evening, I got some accessories for PRIDE month and a fan art iron-on patch of the "San Junipero" episode of Black Mirror for my sister! A memorable spot that I hope to visit my next time I'm in Portland! It was nice to meet you!

This store is hilarious, endearing, poignant, and empowering all at the same time! From Rex Manning Day and the Labyrinth to incredible children's books about gender identity and historically significant women not to mention unique, fun, and beautiful jewelry - I just love to look at each and everything in this store! Thoughtfully curated to the point that I literally want every single thing in the entire store every time I go in!

Heck, I can't even say that this IS a secret to anyone but myself, so I may be the only one in town who was missing out...until this last weekend, anyway. It was a TikTok video, of all things, that pointed us to the deli within (Aunt Tillie's), but from there, after downing a couple of sammies, we had the pleasure of checking out the various shops (many of which seem to have...let's say...eclectic and unstable operating hours), but are still fun to browse: a vintage store, a Himalayan goods store, and others. But the real draw is the antique "mall" co/op running in the basement: a sprawling labyrinth of curated collections of the riches of yesteryear, laid out in such a way to maximize foot traffic, and capture the attention of eye and mind: vintage clothing, furniture, home décor, movies, comics, collectibles, personal items, books, postcards and a whole lot more: enough to keep a treasure hunter like me busy poking around for quite a while! I wish there were more places like this, but based on the fact that I didn't know this existed until two days ago, perhaps there are! Time to get back out there, and start exploring, because I'm obviously slacking a bit!

Located one block east of NE Sandy and the iconic Hollywood Theatre, the large light blue sign that says 42 Station is also iconic for this neighborhood. This place hasn't changed in the 20 years I've lived in Portland and it needed a facelift 20 years ago! But you aren't here for the aesthetics, your here to visit one of the 7 or 8 shops. Or Antique Valley on the lower level; a large space of multiple vendors selling their wares. The primary reason I come here is the Postal Annex. It's just so convenient with parking on the street out front and friendly service, Even though I've moved to SW I still come here frequently. They only accept cash so be forewarned. The 2nd reason I come is Aunt Tillie's Deli. If I'm here during lunch hours or need a sandwich for a picnic, this is the place! They make a delicious and satisfying sandwich and homemade soups that hit the spot! I used to visit Linda's Upholstery whenever I needed custom pillows, a seat cushion or a couch completely redone but she is no longer there. Bummer. She is the master of her craft and affordable. The Himalayan Gift store, located on the left when you walk in, never seems to have anyone there, but they are still in business. They sell clothing, candles, souvenirs and other very miscellaneous items. There is also a hair salon, another antique shop and a Nordic Home shop on the first floor. When I say shop, we are talking a very, very small footprint. The size of a small bedroom. Like I said, The 42nd Street Station is an unusual blend of stores under one roof that fits right into this neighborhood. It's not a destination or a place for out of neighborhood folks, but for those who do live nearby or did, like me, it's an essential part of the community.

Some shoes, handbags, scarves and hats, too. Ragan's has been opened a few years but they don't have a large customer base. The way the store is layed out, with lots and lots of circular rackets filled with clothes, in a big open ceiling, warehouse type of space, it feels more like a consignment store than a "boutique." Which is why it took years for me to finally wander in. When the owner, Ho is very friendly, mentioned many people have the same response as me, they are surprised to find new clothing because they thought Ragan's was a consignment or 2nd hand shop. I share my feedback, which I'm not sure she appreciate, and said she felt it was due to the poor lighting and restrictions from the landlord. I had no problem with the lighting but didn't have the patience to weed through the many clothing packed racks. If it's a boutique, the experience and visual has to match. Clothes should be styled to show off the curated collection. I wish her success! I've stopped in a few times over the years and am always surprised and happy to see Ragan's is still there.
