I usually get a lot of recommendations from coworkers, friends, and family to try new places but no one had mentioned this place to me. I think a lot of that has to do with the location. It is tucked away in the corner of an extremely busy shopping center that includes the Alamo. There are lots of food options near them but somehow they have managed to stand out. The service here is top notch and should come as no surprise since it is family run. It has feeling of getting a home cooked meal from Venezuela. It's as advertised. The food is exceptional and really matches the prices reflected on the menu. The picanha was tender and well seasoned. I will be coming back and trying more of this menu. Could not recommend more

We ordered the the Paradilla which included an arepa, some grilled cheese, fried yuca, a salad with avocado and steak, chicken and sausage. It included a green sauce and mayonnaise for dipping. More than enough food for two big eaters. Our server was charming and brought more green sauce upon request. The restaurant was not busy and they had lots of pictures on the walls of their delicious food. A great first visit. We shall return.

I've had the pork black beans plantain egg and cheese arepa a few times and it's awesome. I got it recently in bowl form with an arepa on the side and it was a ton of food for the value. My boyfriend had a sliced steak arepa maybe with avocado and it was also very good. The empanadas are also amazing!! Food is knockout and the arepas are stuffed full for what you pay. So good. Definitely would order again!

I didn't know what to expect but we decided to try their Pabellon beef bowl and the beef and pork empanadas. Everything came out quick and the empanadas seemed to have been made to order and were hot when brought out to us. The empanadas were crispy, hot, and full of meat filling. The Pabellon bowl came with an arepa on the side. It was our first times having arepa and we enjoyed the saltiness flavor of it. The denseness of the arepa was a new experience for the both of us, it's something that you just have to try for yourself! The bowl goes well with the light, creamy sauce that is brought out with it. The staff are kind and helpful, glad to have been able to support a local business in Charlottesville!

Our servers were super nice, attentive, and accommodating. They really made the evening special. I had the NY Strip, which was done just right. It was between that and the scallops, which are always great. My wife had an incredible halibut special. The fish was cooked perfectly and all the other elements of our dishes were very tasty. A few in the group had the shrimp risotto which is also an excellent dish. We'll be back (many more times); not just because Zocalo holds a special place in our hearts, but also because the food is delicious, the service is impeccable, and the atmosphere fits us well. We're already looking forward to the next time!

A $90…read moreprice fixed menu with a mandatory 20% gratuity regardless of party size...that's a lot, but perhaps not excessive if the food service and ambience merits a $90 per person three course meal. In this instance, it did not. The service was remarkably slow especially for a fixed menu. The waiter repeatedly apologized for the slow service but did nothing remedy the situation. Including not refilling water glasses during the long waits. We were a party of five and only one person was happy with all three of her courses. Whether or not the customer is in alignment with the chef is often a crapshoot, that is not my principal complaint. My complaint is the ambience and the service sorely lacked from what one would it expect for $90 a plate. There were sporting events on various television screens and patrons at the bar could've been mistaken for "Larry the cable guy". Now don't get me wrong, I like Larry the cable guy as much as the next person but if I'm paying $700 for a celebratory dinner for five people I don't wanna eat next to him in a sleeveless flannel shirt and trucker hat. Couple the diminished ambience with the remarkably slow service and color me dissatisfied. Their day-to-day service may be fine but the special occasion should be avoided. We will not be going back

I love the chaos of the art-- to the right of me was this acrylic painting of a creepy teddy bear. I couldn't stop looking at it. Truly bizarre, I love that. The restaurant is dim and cozy and there's plenty to look at. The lamb in my meal was so juicy and flavorful, and the "kiss me through the foam" drink was a real treat. I love the watermelon mixed with the spice. Delicious. But my boyfriend's meal, the carne asada, was a bit bland, which was surprising because it cost a bit more than mine. The rice was very good, but the meat was a little plain we both thought. Nothing like the flavor explosion I got from the lamb. Besides that, an amazing Valentine's eve experience. Will be returning.

Is it a Virgina thing to not turn on ac during summer or why are all restaurant always hot to the point you're passing out? Water is also served without ice and as it is it's already hot in there. Once our waitress came by she wasn't very attentive. Drinks were not great. I should've stuck with a coke or something. Food- I got the tacos al pastor. NGL for being up North I was impressed by the flavor. Unfortunately, once the tacos made it to the table it was hard to even eat them since the tortilla were all soggy. The meat shouldn't have that much juice if it's really cooked on a trompo but ‍. Then to add salsa, slaw and piña on top of that? Again the tortilla were soggy and falling apart. Would I recommend this place? No not really

The fact to see items I buy weekly go up in price yet remain the same at other stores and then see the stores being 'revamped' by unnecessary and unneeded construction and changes is beyond infuriating! I'd rather pay the same or get more sales then you add a stupid new Kroger sign!! I also tried to pay at the pump and there was a note saying be back in 15 min! went in the store and they said apologies and they had been telling that staff member to stop leaving the pumps unattended. So didn't get gas and wasn't wor died about trying again and will not again. My number can show where for years I was in the store at least twice a month and always used my gas points , in many months about a year you can now see I hardly visit a Kroger at all and don't get gas there either . When I just did stop in recently and see a product go up once again that has remained the same price at other stores and the store was just under construction I just left my half full cart and didn't worry about finishing my shoooing I just left the cart and went to another store. Kroger was great for so long and now I hate your store and company . Aldi and Walmart have all the items and I'm saving lots of money too.

From discounts on food, to sales of close-outs, to the ever-important $0.03 off gas, Kroger is a wonderful place to shop. It opens at an opportune time considering its near where I work and the staff have always been friendly and helpful. The store is clean and has exactly what I would expect a large grocery store like Kroger to have. I've always been impressed with their flower and balloon selection and the way they redecorate their sodas for different sport seasons. Overall, this is a fine grocery store to shop at. At the very least, stop here to get your gas!
