Reposting what I just posted on Google Reviews: I don't typically write reviews, but our experience has been SO poor, I would like to warn others. In May '21, we were quoted a little over $11K to replace our door, and paid a 50% deposit. 3+ months later we received drawings and approved them. Several more months go by; no update, despite reaching out several times. When we did get through, an impolite administrator shouted at my wife over the phone that we weren't the only customers that were experiencing delays. He then apologized and said he yelled because he was Dominican (!?). In January, we're given our first real update: an email with a few pictures of our door in a workshop. Fast forward 4 months. After reaching out for more updates, we finally get through to their manager who says, "I'm in Argentina now, organizing the custom orders for the shipment load. We have everything ready waiting for the shipment company to give us the date... before [the] pandemic there was 4 shipment[s] by month, now [there] is only one and when the shipping company want... so we are waiting." July '22, we get an email telling us the door is in NJ and someone will now "take measurements and do the 'pre-installation' before the finish." They come to our house to take measurements on two different occasions. We select and pay for hardware (not included) and reach out for an update, to which they say: "Below I have attached your INVOICE, reflecting a PAID balance (keep this for your records.) The next steps in your project are: 1. I need your availability for this week and next week. I have to send staff members to the project location to fit the door and see what adjustments have to be made. 2. Once we have completed this step, we will proceed to confirm a delivery date. Once I receive your availability, we will be able to move forward." The invoice says we have a balance of over $12K...but we've already paid $5500, so this new invoice suggests that the cost is $17K+. Upon comparison of the two invoices and reaching out to understand the discrepancy, we're told that it reflects: 1. installation (which was not in our quote as it is 'available upon request', yet without our approval is supposedly underway since the tech came by to do a 'pre-installation') 2. marked up prices for things that were on the original invoice paid back in May '21, because of "2022 prices" - which given it was committed to and built in '21, we find suspect. In their fine print it says installation is upon request, which we understand. However, 'pre-installation' was presented as a necessary step, and no price was mentioned. When we learned the install would be $4K+, we said we would pick up the door and have it installed by someone else (for a small fraction of the price). They said they would still charge us $2K for "pre-installation" which we were never told about or given the chance to approve. After a LOT of back and forth, they finally agreed that they did not explain the 'pre-installation' fee. They offered a discounted price to complete the install, which we agreed to because they said our warranty would be voided if we used another provider. Upon install in December, the door had chipped paint which they said they would come back and fix. The next day, it rained. Water that would normally slide right off a door without a trace left strange white splotches all over the door and could not easily come off. It looked like the door was not properly sealed. When we reached out, their response was to say to clean the door with Pledge (an indoor dusting product). We were very confused by this, and replied to ask if they could fix how the door was sealed, as we can't imagine cleaning our custom door with Pledge every time it rains. Moral of the story: Avoid Amighini at all costs! We are incredibly disappointed with our door, the customer experience overall, and with the 1.5 year process we have had to endure. read more

I did 2 projects with these guys, purchased one antique door they renovated and installed in my house, and the second project was for the main entry door that was in a sad neglected state but now looks unrecognizably luxurious! Neighbors stop by to comment on my door frequently. Amighini did an amazing job, it's a big investment but worthy it as long as you maintain the door with care. Take heed! They are good a selling the doors but you're own your own after that. I originally posted my review as Mariella repeatedly asked me to do so although our door had yet to be delivered. And wouldn't be delivered for months and months past the original scheduled delivery date. And would be damaged in transit due to poor crating And have the wrong hardware And have no weatherstripping They did not do the install, or the repairs; our contractors did (thankfully!!) and did a fine job. Never got any satisfaction regarding a rebate for the contractors' time and materials for the repairs but eventually got the correct hardware. read more

The quality of Amighini's work is outstanding! We wanted to replace the unattractive and non-original front door of our brownstone with vintage double doors. We did some research and found Amighini online. We spoke with Mariela and she explained the process to us. She was great to work with throughout the process. We sent in measurements and pictures of the current door. We also sent some pictures of doors we had seen on other homes and liked. We then set up a time to go in and visit the work shop in New Jersey. Based on the information we provided, Mariela and the team showed us various vintage door options that would fit our doorway or could be modified to fit. We were amazed by the large selection of hundreds of vintage doors. Once we selected a door, we worked with the team to select stain, finish and hardware. We had to wait 6 to 8 weeks before the door was ready given demand and the detailed process the craftsmen use to strip, resize and refinish the door. When the door was ready, we arranged for installation, which was about a 4 week process. The workmen removed and disposed of the old door and also removed and replaced all of the surrounding paneling and moldings in the doorway area. All of the woodwork was stained to match the new door. The finished product is amazing and exactly what we hoped for. We couldn't be more pleased with the outcome! read more

I purchased an antique mahogany door from Amighini, including installation, in excess of $ 10,000. A year after installation, panels on shoe level of the frame started to warp. I contacted Amighini and was told that replacement of lower part of panel would cost me $1,100. I was willing to have the repairs done, but Amighini told me I needed to pay in advance and if I used a CC they would add 3 percent. That was when I consulted a carpenter. He said the panels Amighini used are plywood. It was clear that plywood on the outside can't last. When I brought up the problem, Mrs. Amighini told me their manager had hired workers without the owners knowledge and pocketed money. Her suggestion for resolving the issue was to offer me the manager's phone number. What can I say? I asked for the specs of the stain, but they refuse to give it to me. Don't buy from them or work with them. Abysmal business conduct. read more

Horrible experience with Amighini doors - cannot get Mariella to even return a phone call now to help me with the Insurance Claim! Amighini uses Plycon Transportation as the Shipper - and they are a disaster! After improperly packing the door (they used plastic wrap) - they dropped the door in shipment and broke off the hinges that attach the dutch window, and cracked the wood. Even with before shipping and after shipping pictures - Plycon claims that the cracks are due to the age of the door - but it was 100% restored by Amighini - sanded down to the original wood! Mariella will not even assist with getting the Insurance Claim settled - and because Plycon was hired by Amighini - I have to sue Amighini to get my door repaired. Stay away for this company at all cost - or, end up like I am - hoping to get a return phone call that will probably never come. read more

Finding good workers in and around New York who can produce quality work is the equivalent of finding a diamond in the rough. Amighini is that diamond when it comes to doors. Mariela is a pleasure to work with. No matter how many varied obstacles and hurdles arose, and there were many, she dealt with each of them deftly and with grace, rare qualities in the remodeling world. Avoid this company at all costs . They will rip you off . I originally spoke with Gaby , the office manager, who took my order, then proceeded to double charged my credit card . I called them back to tell them of the error .they would not pick up the phone. I emailed them over 7 times over the course of the next two days . still no response .It was only after I threatened to write a bad yelp review that I received a call back. She claimed they were on the other line for two days?! at this point I decide to cancel. She hung up the phone .I again attempted to call them over 10 times, leaving msg's - ALL unreturned . Finally I called their finance dept. ( in texas) who processes their contracts , got their processing manager on the line , explained the entire thing and she told me she would call them directly . Finally a woman named Marina picked up the phone . I said I'd like to cancel the order. She agreed to cancel and return and hang my doors back to their original state. Two men arrived to my apartment , 2 hours ago , brought up the three doors, told me they were going to return to there truck to pick up their tools and they took off . I will contact the better business bureau ; though I'm sure they're not registered . read more

Amighini has proven to be an unprofessionally run company with the capability for gorgeous craftsmanship that is not consistently delivered. As a company that specializes in doors, I would say that they are lacking in basic knowledge about mortised weatherstripping and door hardware, which are critical components of an exterior entry door. We selected Amighini in 2015 to replace the front doors on two brownstone buildings that are part of a single condo association. Our first check to Amighini was delivered in mid-August 2015, and we expected to have approved drawings within 6 weeks. (The contract said sooner, we were a bit more realistic about bureaucratic delays in Jersey City). In fact, Amighini went radio silent in October and we didn't get drawings until September of 2016, over a year later. Most of the delay was on Amighini's side, with about a month lost to the usual bureaucracy in Jersey City. At this point we were told that the doors would be ready to install in 8 weeks. We then started having problems getting Amighini to do the work specified in the contract. Mariela consistently asked for more money, and ignored contractually specified work, unless we demanded it several times. She attempted to avoid the refinishing work on the surrounds until we pointed to it in the contract. She tried to tell us we would have to pay extra for mortised weatherstripping, until we pointed to it in the shop drawings. She then said we would have to pick out the weatherstripping, because she didn't know what to install based on the shop drawings (which were drawn by her shop). This went on through the install of doors for both buildings for about a year. Towards the end, Mariela repeatedly told us that we had to pay the final check before installation, otherwise we could not have our doors. When we pointed out that the contract specifically stated that the final amount would not be paid until inspection, she briefly capitulated, and tried to deliver doors that did not meet the contractual requirements and showed signs of inferior carpentry. We sent them back and waited another two months. Finally, we were told the doors were ready. Mariela sent the workers - who are pleasant but speak limited English - with instructions not to install unless we handed over a check first, and then when we objected they were told to uninstall the doors if we didn't hand over the final check. At this point - on September 20, 2017, over two years after we handed Amighini the first check - we were so disgusted with Amighini that we agreed, even though the hardware that they recommended does not meet our specifications. (In fact, they tried to install it in a way that would not allow us to enter even with the key - that was fixable, but we are not happy with the lack of security due to Mariela's poor knowledge and advice). Throughout all of this, Mariela has asked us repeatedly to write a review. This is the most honest review I could possibly write. Avoid Amighini at all costs. They are miserable to work with and while they have competent craftsmen, they will do their best to cut corners to avoid taking the time to do the job right (or even at all), while at the same time demanding payment before delivering even inferior work. read more

Mariela, manger of the Jersey City operation, cold not be more responsive. Awful, horrible, incompetent. Disastrous. Steel doors here are just COMPLETELY BAD. How can one say any more bad things about this place? No follow thru, horrific service, longer than ever wait times, poor craftsmanship, no listening to directions or actual correspondence about what is required. I have never come into contact with a company so totally unable to deliver what was promised and paid for. Salespeople have no clue about the steel doors they are selling nor anything about how they are made. The company outsources to sub-contractor in CA who are fabricating but know nothing about the product they are delivering EVEN WITH shop drawings.
