If you live in an older building in Hoboken, there might be a very old faucet or bathtubs spigot and also very old piping behind the wall. Notice the pictures - I had an extremely old and leaking hot and cold water handles that had very old mixers behind the wall. The after photo shows a much more modern replacement! I had this slow leaking for over three months that was bothering me a lot and I reached out to Riverside (Robert) I think on a Wednesday and they came over and took a look.They then returned on Friday and because I live in such an old building it was a lot of work. I had Riverside Handyman replace my garbage disposal a few months ago, and unfortunately, my experience has been frustrating. The first visit went smoothly--great service, no complaints. They recommended I purchase an InSinkErator unit, which I did. However, within six months, it broke. I tried to replace it under warranty, but it was Thanksgiving week, and the soonest appointment was weeks out. Since we were hosting, I bought a new unit and had Riverside come back to install it. The replacement took two hours and cost significantly more in labor than the unit itself. I thought nothing of it until the replacement failed again after a month. This time, I went through the warranty process. The company sent one of their own service providers, and the replacement took just 15 minutes--not two hours. When I asked the technician why the time difference, he explained that only a brand-new install should take that long. Replacing the same unit is much quicker. This was a red flag--I now realize Riverside likely overcharged me for labor at least once, possibly twice. To top it off, today's plumber mentioned that the InSinkErator model Riverside recommended is notoriously unreliable, and they had just replaced one for someone who was on their fourth unit. While Riverside's work was fine, I can't recommend them if you're looking for fair treatment. One star for getting the job done, but their labor charges and questionable recommendations left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I hired Robert and Riverside Handyman Services to do multiple fixes to my condo in Jersey City. I live out of state so needed a trusty handyman to handle these fixes remotely. I've reached out to Riverside Handyman Services a number of times over the past year and they are no my go-to contact for when I need work done on my condo (especially when something breaks)! I've always been able to get ahold of Robert fairly easily as he responds to text messages and calls quickly, and will often ask for photos/videos of what needs to be worked on so he can prepare. Their visits are timely and communicated in advance, and they are also on time - something that has been a rarity the more contractors I work with! Robert and his team have helped me with: replacing a faulty showerhead, fixing a sink basin that lost its adhesion to the counter, realigning drain pipes that started leaking, installing a new sink faucet, and fixing a closet door that didn't close properly due to a faulty spring. We had an issue with our switch in the bathroom. It should operate the ceiling light but instead, it shorts the circuit whenever we try to turn it on. So we reached out via Yelp and then text, and scheduling was super easy. They were super responsive and were able to come within the next two days. They gave us a time frame between 9 and 10 and came on time. It took them about an hour from start to finish to figure out and fix the problem (turns out we also need a brand new light). They followed Covid protocols by wearing a mask (much appreciated!) and they also took off their shoes before entering the apartment (also appreciated!). Hired Riverside to wallpaper a small bathroom as well as change a cartridge on my shower fixture which had rusted. In terms of the wallpaper, they did a decent job. It took a lot more time than I expected so in the future I would push for a flat fee on something like this rather than go hourly. For the shower fixture, I wish they had told me this was beyond their expertise. They fiddled around for 3+ hours and installed the cartridge incorrectly and unevenly. They then said my fixture hardware was broken because it could not be installed on top of the cartridge (due to the way they had installed it). A few days later I called a plumber and they were able to fix it in 30 minutes without any issues. Luckily, they did not charge for this but I have a feeling the wallpaper job was padded due to the time they spent here. read more

Robert and his team at Riverside exemplify great service and value. They responded to an inquiry on a Saturday night within 30 minutes, texted and called to confirm the project scope (in my case repairing a broken shower valve and estimating costs for a series of other home improvement projects), arrived bright and early and on time the next day, talked me through what they needed to do and asked if I was okay with any additional charges as they went (the additional cost being for parts which they located, removed, and showed me and provided receipts for), and most importantly, fixed the shower valve that had been serviced but never really repaired by a handful of others. Mostly every plumber that has looked at this issue before has simply replaced the valve (2 in the past 2 years). In this case, Robert and his team took the time to really diagnose the root cause and found an old cartridge that clearly required replacement many years prior; if speed were the only measure, they'd still be ahead of other handymen by a long shot but to see the true attention to detail spoke greater to their expertise. If you live in Hoboken, you know that finding a reliable communicative and actually handy handyman can be challenging. I can't count the number of hours I've spent online and on the phone locating a plumber, electrician, or general handy service. I was so pleased to hear back from Robert so quickly, and to see his teams work was really effective and fairly priced.
