Had an absolutely amazing time last weekend for my son's 14th birthday. We had kids of all ages…read more(from age 6 to 36) and all had a great time. We chose the 1.5 hour option and it was perfect...can not recommend it enough. Perfect for birthday parties of all ages (6+) and would be a great day out for hen/stag dos or even just friends getting together to get their competitive fix. Tip-bring water, you'll get hot and sweaty!

I was asked by the Wife to arrange her birthday party for her. "Something active- I've never tried…read morelaser questing before" And thats how I found this place. Tired of the typical bowling alley/ laser quest combos for kids, I had done laser games many many times before (remember £7 unlimited laser and bowling back in the 90's?), but had never played it outdoors. After speaking to Nick the event organiser, I was assured this wasn't just for children, and promptly booked for 20 adults in middle of February. Obviously a bit weary of potential bad weather, Nick told me he had never cancelled a party due to the weather before. The lead up was very well done. You have ample time to pay your deposit, and are given access to the members area where you can enter the names of the children (or adults), and read health and safety information in preparation for the day. Easy to find, it is situated at Parrs Wood Highschool behind the Entertainment Complex. In 90 minutes we played 6 games, using realistic guns with optical scopes. The marshalls were helpful and the games were varied and very entertaining. The weather did hold out in the end, but don't not be afraid to get muddy as you can shower and change in the school gym afterwards. As always, never wear your best clothes to these events! Several of my friends had never done this before, and including myself would gladly do this again! One gripe which came from this- the equipment could do with a makeover, but much better than the indoors stuff.

If you're looking for an adrenaline-filled teambuilding event, stag/hen do, or birthday party idea…read morewith a difference, then Battlefield LIVE Knutsford will definitely tick the box. Set in seven acres of woodland, it's an outdoor military-themed 'combat experience' where participants, or should I say 'soldiers', are provided with camouflage boiler suits, war paint and infra-red gaming guns. For a two hour slot you participate in four different 'missions' and are split into two teams (Alpha or Delta). After a brief tutorial covering how the guns and sensors work, and the layout of the battlefield, the two squadron leaders take you outside for the war games to commence. The sessions included the ominously sounding 'Death Match' and the old classic 'Capture The Flag'. For one of the games the adults got to use infra-red snipers (very satisfying!!). My nephew and his 11 friends (plus us three adults) had an absolutely brilliant time, albeit we were pretty weary and ever-so-slightly muddy once the tanoy sounded at the end of the last round. The guys there were thoroughly professional and organised and had a great rapport with the kids, who all really enjoyed it and many wanted their birthdays held there too. At a standard rate of £20 per person it might sound expensive for some, especially for kids' parties, but anything that gets them outside, working in teams and having loads of fun is money well spent IMO. Tip: There is a large picnic tent on-site where you can bring your own food and drink. Tip: They can keep valuables safely locked away, but suggest you limit what you take there.

Booked to play laser tag with Battlefield Sports at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel (Clayton Le Moors) for my…read moredaughter's birthday party after seeing info on their website and was expecting nothing less than a fantastic experience. At £18 per person, it wasn't cheap but it did promise an exhilarating, team oriented combat game mirroring multi level games such as HALO, and Call of Duty. I liked the idea of combining outdoor gaming similar to paintballing but using laser guns to remove any element of pain and bruising. I also liked the idea of kitting out with weapons, military grade coveralls, face paint and the offer of free extras for our party including flash grenades, claymore mines, four two-way radios and a group photo. The organisers were very reluctant to handover the two way radios, emphasising to the eight year old kids that they would have to pay the full cost for replacing them if they got lost. The kids decided against using them and were visibly disappointed. Also disappointing was the way the organisers talked all the kids out of having face paint on, saying it was eating up time and making them all feel they shouldn't argue. Everyone was asked to remove objects from their pockets that they did not need in case they fell on them or lost them in the woods. Unbelievably, one of the organisers asked a twelve-year-old boy if he really did need his inhaler because I've bags full of those things people have left behind so you might end up losing it you know? I had to step in with a big Whoah there!!! and announce to everyone in the group that under no circumstances should inhalers be left behind. The weapons used are very heavy and some of the younger ones struggled carrying them around for two hours. We were told repeatedly how expensive they were and how, if they were damaged in any way, we would need to foot the bill for replacing them and again, this made the younger ones nervous about using them. The two men running the missions were disorganised, incredibly vague in their instructions about mission objectives, impatient and offhand with the younger children. We were informed that one blow of the whistle indicated the start of game play. Two blows meant the game had ended and three whistles indicated an emergency requiring all players to return to base immediately. The trouble was, because we played in large, dense woodland and were considerably far apart, it was quite difficult to determine the number of faint, distant whistles we had heard. It might have been wise to choose something completely different and unmistakeable in the event of emergencies. On several occasions, we stopped dead in our tracks because we heard the whistle go quite soon after the game started but could not be sure whether it was blown twice or three times. To make matters worse, we didn't have the radios to make communication with the other team and had to stop playing whilst we went to make sure everything was OK. This really cheesed off the organisers who said they had blown it to indicate the START of the game (this had gone off just five minutes beforehand???) At one point, one of the organisers threatened to turn off two of the younger children's weapons because they had fired before the game had started I then had to explain the above issue with confusion over the whistles and point out that the other team were firing which made us automatically assume we were playing. Even so, given some of these kids were eight years old and at a birthday party, for which I was paying £18 a head, there was not a chance in hell they were turning guns off and spoiling was supposed to be fun. Some of the sensors on a couple of the helmets and guns were dodgy; registering hits when none were taken and showing more than were made. The kids enjoyed the game on the whole but I was very, VERY annoyed with the way they talked them out of using radios or having face paint and with the harsh tone and almost threatening attitude they took with the younger ones. I was seriously hacked off with the suggestion of leaving inhalers behind and the threat to turn off the guns of two nine year olds. Had it been just adults playing this game, I would have been a little more forgiving and understood the need to lay it on about our use of expensive equipment and general rules and tactics of the game. Only it wasn't... it was a kid's birthday party. In this respect, the game is not remotely suitable for children aged 8+ and I do wonder why they advertise it as being so. I imagine this game probably works well as part of a team building / corporate day for those aged 16 and above but in my opinion; it was wholly unsuitable for younger children. I was anticipating it being a fabulous day out and expected to write a glowing review so it is genuinely disappointing to have to slate the entire event really. Especially when you consider the cost, which was just under £500.
