I wanted to do Turbo Tax this year but due to all my shadowy off shore accounts, illegitimate children, multimillion dollar personal services contracts, altered wills, lawsuit judgements, etc., Turbo Tax blew a gasket and the transmission fell out of my computer when I tried to plug it all in. So back to Ameritax I went. Due to the area they are in, they cater to many latin customers (Love Field area). The owner Kevin Hopson is great. He's fast talking (but concise), fast typing, extremely detail-oriented. Asks good questions, and gets the most refund for you. He's also a nice guy. I heard about him through people where I work and have used him the last five years or so. He's great at advising people with their own businesses as well. The staff is friendly, the service is more personal than other tax prep chains, and they (at least Kevin-make sure he does your taxes) do a great job. So if you're computer challenged, or don't trust doing it yourself on your taxes, hit 'em up. read more

I knew I needed help with my taxes this year. I'd moved, I'd had a regular job, but also a contract job - basically, I had no idea what I was doing when it came time to file. I'd researched some places on Yelp and called several "real" accountant firms, including the one that says they'll give you a free consultation, but they couldn't help me file my return on time ...or in one case, even bother return my call. They said they'd help me file an extension, but it was MARCH, yes, kind of late in the game, but early March and I still had over a month before taxes were due. I'd held off on calling Ameritax because I'd used places like H&R Block before and they were crazy expensive and you got charged for filing federal and then for state and then for filling in the interest you paid on your student loans and I didn't want to get gouged at a chain again. Finally I called just because I knew I needed help and they did have a good review, so I was hopeful that it would work out. Kevin did return my call and in a timely manner and we scheduled an appointment. They're even open on Saturdays, so it made it easy to find time. Kevin was great and very helpful. He didn't balk at the fact that I'd had several W2s with me plus a 1099 contract form. He didn't bat an eye at filing an out of state return. He also helped me write off moving expenses with relevant questions and student loan interest without any superficial charge. In addition, he was very fast and I was extremely happy with the results. I was afraid with the contract work, that I'd end up owing money this year, but it turns out that this wasn't the case. When all was said and done, I got a good return and I owed Ameritax no more than I expected to pay, although my service ran about twice as much as the normal tax prep cost because of the 1099. I told Kevin about the other tax places being unable to help me file on time and he couldn't believe it, which is funny, because I couldn't either. I'm glad that they were, though because I'm very happy with Kevin and Ameritax and with the level of service he provided. He's got one very loyal customer in the years to come. read more

This year I spent two days trying to prepare my own taxes in Turbo Tax. In the end it showed that I owed a large amount which was not the case last year so I called Ameritax. Kevin showed me what I was missing and explained all the changes in the tax deductions from year to year. I am getting a nice amount back instead of owing additional taxes. Kevin also explained what I can do to best prepare myself for next year to maximize my tax savings. The preparation cost is minimal. I was in and out of there in 25 minutes. i went in to ameritax on gus thomason road, when i first walk in place look fine and was treated well, but many months of not receiving my paperwork from them i was very disappointed every time i will call either tanya or betsy will give me different answers to my same questions, i felt like if they didn't know what they were talking about, went in january and its now april and they have not yet helped me resolve my issue. im pretty sure the manager cant either since i spoke to her once, don't know her name since she does not stated when she answers phone. will not recommenced to anyone . read more
