If I could give a negative 50, I would. I've had so many issues with this company, they are too numerous to mention. But this last one was to straw that broke the camel's back. Delivery came on a completely different day than scheduled. Driver wouldn't get out of his truck to speak with me. I wasn't in a position at the time to accept the delivery (tank is behind a locked fence), and I asked the driver to come back during the scheduled delivery time. Can I give 0 stars? I have been a customer for 22 years. They were adequate at filling the tank but their customer service is non-existant. When you call for service, you reach a call center and never get the same person twice. I made a payment that they cashed but didn't record, then charged me a late fee for. I noticed they charged almost a full dollar more per gallon than their competitor. I eventually changed to the cheaper service but it took 10 weeks and 8 phone calls to get them to remove the tank. I was told I would get a refund for any propane left in the removed tank. I just received a bill for removing said tank at $149.99 plus another random fee of $69.99. When I questioned the lack of a credit for remaining propane in the tank, I was told we only had 5% left in the tank and their contract states there will be no credit for any propane 5% or less. Convenient, right? Don't waste your time, energy or money using this crappy service. They don't care about you, only your money! read more

The worst service I have ever gotten from any company out there drivers are great but since they changed to no local offices service isn't there at all called in March 2023to have second tank removed because they were changing rent for it. Never came till Nov when I called them again they said they had no record of me calling in March and then charged me $242.82 for rental for 12months not my fault they never came and got it. I purchased my home last summer and the previous owner had been leasing a tank from AmeriGas. My plan was to run the tank dry and then decide on a propane company. After the fireplace inspection determined that there was a gas leak, and the plumber isolated the problem to the tank footing. It had become unstable and was pulling the feed lines apart. I contacted AmeriGas to come re-set the tank. AmeriGas would not re-set the tank until I had transferred the account into my name. Having tried numerous times to get a straight answer out of their support staff on what the minimum usage fees were, what the tank lease costs, and very basic account billing terms I finally just started asking different questions. "How much is the tank lease?" "There isn't one." "What's the minimum amount of gas I have to use in a year?" "There is no minimum usage." "What if I don't use 100 gallons in a year?" "Then we charge you for the tank and a penalty on your fill-up." "What are those charges?" "That depends." Once I had completely emptied the tank of the gas left by the former owner, I called AmeriGas to cancel my account and come get their tank. They charged me $150 to pick up their tank that I had never ordered, never filled, and never had a choice on. It is still here so I called the company and asked why it had not been removed and was told it was a two-man job.They never told me about the situation and, if I hadn't checked up on them, it would still be sitting here for who knows how long. They never told me this information. When I asked for the date to be moved up, I was told it was impossible and they have 30 days to remove the tank. I have been a customer for eleven years. I always call them when my tank is 50%full for a refill because I know it takes them 7-10 days to come out and fill the tank. I called them 7 days after my request for tank refill to make certain I was on their schedule and they told it would be filled that day (Wed) and they confirmed I the 18th stop on the delivery list. It wasn't filled so I called them on Thursday and told me it would be filled on Thursday. Nope. I called them on Friday and they said they put in an emergency fill within 24 hours - Saturday. Nope. I'm on hold now (40 min on hold) to see if they will be coming tomorrow. I am down to 23%. Do yourself a favor and go to a company with fair prices and delivers when scheduled. We were told we would get a propane delivery on February 9th as a matter of fact when I use their "delivery status" prompt on their dial up service, it says February 9th, the problem is that it is February 11th and they are NOW telling me that I can expect a delivery on February 12th. At this point I have no expectation that we will EVER get a propane delivery even though we paid for the delivery in FULL on February 2nd. AMERIGAS is a TERRIBLE, AWFUL company, DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM. There are no good reviews of this company. Their call center is located in India somewhere and none of their representatives have English as their first language. They all read off a script, they refuse to let you speak to anyone above them, because they are ALWAYS "in a meeting". Local office has closed. Call wait times are sometimes nearly an hour as the call center is in Texas and is either minimally staffed or overworked. Obtaining service used to be a breeze but it is now very difficult. Once I cancelled the service it took months and multiple calls to get the tank removed. Run away now! Amerigas seems incapable of delivering propane on any reasonable timeframe. I placed a "fill up" order in mid-Dec 2021 and they estimated delivery by Christmas. By mid-Jan I was nearly out and began calling Customer Service. After repeated promises to deliver within 24 hours I had to resort to reporting the smell of propane in my house. This worked as a truck arrived a few hours later. Otherwise I would have run out in middle of winter. You should also know the Better Business Bureau rates them as F. They were sued by the state of Michigan in 2014 for illegal business practices. In North Carolina they were extorting customers by charging a $300 "priority delivery" fee and would not deliver at all unless it was paid. The state Attorney General stepped in and forced them to refund. I could go on and on. You do business with Amerigas at your own risk. I gave them 1 Star because 0 Stars is not allowed. read more

Amerigas customer service is horrendous. There customer service advocates are foreign, barely speak English, communication is basically non-existent, they put you on hold a lot. Don't expect any answers to your questions. We use to receive a contract price, for some reason they took us off that price and jacked up the cost of propane. We were charged 4.19 a gallon when the price for propane in NOVA is 3.36 a gallon. If I wasn't planning on moving in a year I would make them dig up their tank and haul it away. read more

Holy moly did I think prices were bad in 2021...2022 prices are much worse. Fill up is between $800 to over $1000 dollars without payment plan. Payment plan went from $100 to $200 a month without warning. I know the economy is bad but I am sure there is something they can do to give their customers fairer prices. read more

They have left my 80 year old mother without gas in subzero temperatures for 3 days! The delivery was ordered on December 5th. It's now December 24th (she finally ran out 3 days ago). They promise gas everyday but it doesn't show up. Her house is now 42 degrees inside! We've called the call center multiple times a day but it's not the local office. The service has been getting poorer year. I ordered propane December 26, delivery promised within 10 days I am now without heat, propane tank beyond red for two days now. I have spoken to several agents all outsourced from several different phone numbers. Each giving me the same perfect answers including they will make this an emergency. The soonest they will now deliver is January 14. We will be four days without heat , I would change vendors, probably, but our tank lines are rented from AmeriGas. If anyone has answers to this dilemma, they would be appreciated as far as AmeriGas they could go out of business today as far as I am concerned. read more

Called three propane providers Wednesday March 6, 2019 (Hunt Country Propane, Valley Energy, and Amerigas.) Hunt Country Propane quoted me $2.19 a gallon, Valley was slightly hire at $2.29, and Amerigas quoted me $3.49 a gallon. Enough said. read more

I have been a customer since 1998 and these guys try to weasel every cent out of you they can. Buyer beware! Watch out for tank rental fees and high per gallon charges for propane. I recently compalained about the tank rental fee (111.00 per year for a 20 year old tank) and they credited it. Customer service is terrible... as an existing customer, I called to get contract rates, was told they were not out yet and they would give me a courtesy call to set up the contract once they were set. (Turns out the rates were set later that same day). No call. Followed up two weeks later after having not heard anything and asked to be set up on contract. Four weeks passed (we were traveling) and no contract, no call, nothing. Followed up and found out nothing had happened. Just simply didn't do it. Finally received a contract for 2/3 of what we requested. We're done. Just don't do it. Even if they lease the tank to you, spend the money, buy the tank, and go to Hunt or Valley. AmeriGas is not good and there's no reason to put up with the terrible service. read more

I was a little scared to use AmeriGas in Ranson, after I saw the reviews, for my propane needs. I have no idea how the other reviewers have had the problems that they stated. This location has been more than accommodating and even helped me out when I was having issues getting my stove converted from gas to propane. Also, I called them 2 days ago because I was worried about running low on propane with Christmas being next week and my tank was filled TODAY. Nothing but great service and they really seem to care! Very unhappy with Amerigas in Ranson, WV! According to US Energy Information Administration the the average price for propane on my last delivery for the Central Atlantic on my delivery date was $2.641 (excluding tax) and i was charges $3.599 plus hazmat fee, fuel recovery fee, city sales tax and state excise tax, but the wholesale price on the same date was $0.710. I have been with Amerigas since 1999 and they have no sense of loyalty and act if you don't pay their price, just go they don't need your business. Just called two other companies and got their pricing, Thompson Gas $1.99 and ACT $1.79 (plus tax) and yes this is not the promotional first fill up price which is about .30 less a gallon. read more

I have had service from Amerigas now for approximately 8 years. The only time I have ever had an issue with them is due to my own late calls for service. They tell you the service call should be within 10 days but they usually come before then, maybe 2 - 3 days, and even sometimes the same day. And the cost is high but its probably what the going rate is at the time. I don't pay my bill all at once, I usually make two or three payments in order to pay it off. And the people are nice, I've even gone to their office to pay my bill before, and they're usually busy but they make time to come and chat and also take your money. I should also mention that I did have propane service from another company before, and I was only with them for a year. My usual preference is to stay with a company if they do their best. I understand everybody is not at their best at all times so that's why I give a new company at least a year to show me what they got. read more

As a real estate investor I have dealt with many propane companies and this is by FAR the worst. The folks are friendly on the phone but the service and pricing is horrible. It took me over two months to get my service activated and was told 7-10 days on refill. They claim customer service is their top priority but it is pure lip service. Our gas tank has been completely empty for past 4 days and we've been waiting for the delivery for past 7 days ! We have little ones at home with absolutely NO HEAT in this 30f weather ! Their basic response, after we paid $1000+ up front to fill up the tank was "oh well,,, it's your problem.. we'll get to it when we get around to do it". It's pulling teeth trying to get in touch with someone at the office and when you do have someone on the other line, they are rude, unprofessional and just plain mean ! I have been a customer with Amerigas since 2007 and am very disappointed in the way they treat customers. Their prices for gas are outrageous. In addition, they have been filling my tank up when I haven't been using my gas fireplace at all. I am given the explanation that the gas pilot is using the gas even when I don't turn on the fireplace! Other gas companies have told me there is no way a lit pilot would use that much gas! I called Americas today for a quote on propane delivery. Sharon quoted me $3.10/gal. I was shocked. Several months ago Amerigas filled my tank for $159/gal. Sharon said the price had gone up and people were paying even more than that. So....I called Hunt Country. Their price quote was $2.29/gal. that's an .81 cent difference. If I filled my 1000 gal tank with Americas I would be spending $810 MORE than if I fill up with Hunt Country. What's going on? read more

I received an email that the local branch would be in contact with me in 3-5 days. Glad I'm not in any hurry to have the propane tank filled at my house. Just found it a little odd that a business that supplies a commodity to its patrons would be so hard to contact. I followed the company's instructions to call if I smelled gas or had concerns about a gas leak. When I called the Ranson, WV office on 11/21/14, I told their phone rep I smelled gas coming from the exhaust on the outside of my home and I could see what looked like frozen condensation coming out of one of the exterior PVC pipes. The rep instructed me to turn the gas off. I answered any of her questions and she insisted that I stay home so she can immediately send out a service technician. I asked her if I'd be charged for a service call. She said if the tech found a problem with AmeriGas's equipment, I won't be charged. She said if the tech determines that my equipment is causing the problem, then I'd be charged for a service call. When the tech arrived, I gave him the same info I gave the phone rep. He said everything I described is completely normal and the phone rep should not have sent him out. He said that even though it is clear that no problems exists, by law, he must check for a gas leak when he's sent out on a service call. I asked him if I'd be charged and he said he does not handle billing. I got a statement in the mail showing that AmeriGas charged me $190.76 for this service call. In this situation, the phone rep insisted that I have an emergency service call even though I had described to her a normal situation that required no concern or action. Additionally, the equipment I own wasn't causing any problems, so I shouldn't be charged. I called customer service the day after I received my statement. The rep, Kim, said she'll notify her manager, and I'll receive a call back that day or the following day. Four days later, I hadn't received a call, so I called Kim again. She said her manager, Dan, is aware of the dispute but he won't be in the office until the next day. She said to call her if he does not contact me by the next afternoon. I called her the following afternoon. She said Dan is not available, but he knows I'm awaiting his call. More than a month has passed and I still haven't received a call or refund. read more

We have used Amerigas now for many years and couldn't be happier with their prompt and courteous service. We have services for our home and business. From the ladies that I speak to on the phone to the delivery guys. They are all awesome to deal with.
