I don't remember when the last time I stayed at a motel, let alone stayed at a place that used a real key to unlock the door. That being said, we went up for a two night stay to check out the UP and Lake Superior. After looking for someplace to stay, we came across Hiawatha Motel on Yelp. After reading the reviews, we decided to book the king size room. When we arrived, I still had speculations on our decision. I checked in at the little lobby and the lady (owner) was so nice and hospitable. She was kind and even provided a few suggestions for local restaurants that "are the best in the UP". After checking in, we went to the room. It was recently renovated and was very clean. The bathroom area was sanitized. The bed was made nicely and extremely comfortable. It had a couple chairs and little table. The fridge and microwave was nice and clean. I even watched a little TV (all via Roku). You can tell that the family that owns this property takes great care in ensuring their guests are comfortable, provide a welcoming experience and surprise even the pickiest of guests like me. I definitely recommend it. The price, location, hospitality and cleanliness are well worth it.

Furniture was modest and newer and the bed was super comfy and obviously high quality. Bathroom was updated with super plush towels and even had lotion, shampoo and conditioner. Shower was hot and lots of water pressure. Now, let me sing the praises of the manager, Tina. If I ever own a motel, I am stealing her. Lol warm and inviting and stayed when I called at 11:20 so that someone was in the office when we got there. She was attentive and when our air conditioner didn't work, she went above and beyond and at midnight, she went to the back to fix it and made sure we were totally pleased before she went home for the night. Outstanding service. For the price and for a small, privately owned motel, this is top notch. The owners should be so proud Stayed in room 14. We will be back.

It needed a fan in the bathroom There was a small table and chairs, mini frig and microwave. It could use black out drapes as each room had an outdoor light on all night. I'm glad I had an eye mask or I would've been awake all night. There is a good family restaurant called Family Inn next door. The road noise can be loud at times but we live in Milwaukee by a freeway so we are used to the street noise. The room we had was not very big, the door hit the bed. I should have asked for a double bed room as we would have had more room. It worked for us but I felt cramped.

The "new room smell" was quite strong, but the room was spotless and well-appointed. The view was amazing. We dined at the restaurant on site - good service, good food, great view. Plenty of parking, great amenities - we didn't have time to take advantage of the free bikes and kayaks but what a great option to have! The pool/hot tub/sauna are dated but it was clean and nice to have available. We would stay again if we come back this way.

Our room was recently renovated. It was perfect for us since we parked right outside the door. It was tastefully decorated with scenes of Michigan's natural beauty. Outside, there was also a pathway along the lake to go for a stroll and enjoy the outdoors. I would definitely return to this hotel on my next visit to Escanaba!

The reviews for this place are just so-so but our experience was just fine especially for the price. Our rooms were decent with a nice sitting area - I guess that is the suites part of the name. The room had a bigger sized refrigerator with a freezer compartment which was welcomed and the only one with a freezer in the five hotels we stayed at during this road trip. The only gripe was the room on our second stay had a water saving faucet that was pretty worthless - funny the first room was different. The breakfast was standard chain hotel fare... perhaps a bit more spartan. Overall it was a good experience.
